iwontberude··on 3D necroprinting: Leveraging biotic material as the nozzle for 3D printing
Mosquitos are pollinators and utterly useful to the ecosystem. There are other ways to resolve blood born pathogens than to eliminate entire species.
iwontberude··on An update on how we confirm your age group on Discord
Matrix has become invaluable for dozens of my hacker friends. We ditched Discord almost a year ago and we have no desire to go back. Besides having high quality e2ee voice/video/screensharing (thanks LiveKit), we collectively spend 10x less for the functionality and keep our data in Switzerland. No ads, no one getting their accounts hacked with QR codes, ultra-granular space/channel settings, multiple choices for client implementations, and end to end encryption enables sensitive discussions that would have previously been curtailed. The identity verification is greatly appreciated although our new users do have some issues getting set up with multiple devices, but it's no more complicated than multi-device WhatsApp. Matrix is ready for prime time.
iwontberude··on Pion, an agent designed to run any company autonomously
It’s quite an uncanny alignment with Nvidia and other semiconductor companies that benefit from their customers to bloating software and buying as many of their chips with no real thought given to efficiency of the runtime.
iwontberude··on Anthropic boss Dario Amodei calls for AI development to slow down
They are destroying this country and I for one welcome it. I’m so tired of American hegemony and I don’t care if we all suffer. I want people to learn to do better next time/generation.
iwontberude··on Growing proof that autonomous cars save lives
Every time you make someone switch modes of transportation to complete their commute, the suffering increases exponentially in my personal experience. I much prefer going door to door and getting the benefit of resting my mind and body.
iwontberude··on I trained a small transformer in 1.5hrs and it beats many LLMs
Yeah, unless the model is evaluated with blind hold outs, the benchmarks are misleading.
iwontberude··on Judge rules Trump administration’s blacklisting of Anthropic was illegal
Because corps can donate unlimited money to super pacs while regular people have to pay for medical expenses (in addition to inflation, DOGEd government programs, gambling addictions, AI layoffs, etc) that keep them from having a political voice commensurate to institutions and financial whales. Regular people are basically subsidizing the same corporations that are taking away their representation.
iwontberude··on Tim Curry has died
RIP Premier Cherdenko
iwontberude··on Field measurements of neighborhood-scale air temperature impacts of data centers
"We've been clearing redwood trees for decades and the plots are minuscule compared to the size of all the redwoods. This is just the latest popular panic, isn't it?"

50 years later...

iwontberude··on Someone is running mass vulnerability scans, spoofing AI bots like ClaudeBot
I remember when you could stand up a website and no bots would scrape it or scan it. It was a lovely time. No one had firewalls or antivirus and things were working fine until the worms and viruses started coming. You could be confident that your guests were real, so much so we had guest counters on many public sites.
iwontberude··on _for-sale DNS records
Yeah but you still have to hire attorneys so for some people they will just settle and take any offer
iwontberude··on Show HN: Simple algorithm and color space to generate diverse skin tones
> People only turn yellow if they have kidney or liver damage.

This is not true. Roughly 5% of people have Gilbert's Syndrome which is genetic, metabolic abnormality where the bilirubin from dead blood cells are conjugated slower than the baseline patient leading to yellowing of the skin. It is not due to liver damage or disease and is a benign condition. Not to mention there is carotenemia from eating too many carrots or squash -- again not kidney/liver damage related.

iwontberude··on Don't be a meat proxy
True because we have pay bands that everyone has to somehow be hired for and fit within.
iwontberude··on DDoS against Norwegian government IT infrastructure – status
those script kiddies control botnets in foreign countries and use them to attack stuff just bc. its not their compute, so no marginal cost to them
iwontberude··on Ten advances in mathematics and theoretical computer science
That's because its satire, the tell was "not excluding targeted military strikes"
iwontberude··on Prevent cognitive debt by manually retyping LLM-generated code
I’m talking back of house, you’ve sort of mistakenly missed my point and made a rebuttal to some completely different question and I agree with you.
iwontberude··on The AI Productivity Gap
"In reality, it’s juniors who stand to gain the most from AI – especially if they are good at using AI as a learning tool, not just an overeager sidekick who’s willing to do the menial work."

We have had interns come in and do 5x more work than their predecessors using GenAI. Senior devs spend most of their time planning and reviewing now and Junior devs can implement. Both with the help of GenAI.

iwontberude··on Developers are attached to tools because tools encode trust
Tools encode determinism, not trust
iwontberude··on Prevent cognitive debt by manually retyping LLM-generated code
It's a moot point. In Mag7 companies internal code gets thrown away within 2 years on average because of contract negotiations, new opensource projects that obviate need for the internal codebase, license changes, layoffs, etc, etc. We don't need long term maintainability because its already on its way to the garbage bin. Frankly it's always been this way.
iwontberude··on Show HN: Chinese are offering Claude/Codex offers 90% off
Nope, it’s just simple arbitrage. All of the subscription tiers offer 5-10x better prices than metered api fees. They use subscription to hook people and get them desperate enough to pay for ad-hoc generation outside of their subscription to make a profit. The economics of Claude do not work unless a significant % of subscribers convert to standard metered API use. They are trying any trick under the sun to make this happen.
iwontberude··on Show HN: I'm a 15 Year Old Wannabe Engineer, This Is a Cycloidal Gearbox I Built
Americans on IRC likely to be from a handful of cesspools that encourage racist worldviews or other “open-minded” discourse which ends up being a recurring hate-mongering episode.
iwontberude··on Show HN: Kakehashi – Experimental userspace to run macOS binaries on Linux ARM
And it’s an endlessly moving target, look at how many apps break every major release (and use it to justify regular, expensive paid upgrades)
iwontberude··on Tailscale didn't stop the Hugging Face intrusion
Welcome to the singularity where we all do Claude’s bidding and don’t even realize we’ve synchronized.
iwontberude··on How A Gang of Thieves Pulled Off a Multimillion-Dollar Data Center Heist
That’s why they are often armed, some with rifles
iwontberude··on Kalshi attacks a Wisconsin law banning election bets as 'voter suppression'
Way healthier, it’s not even a comparison. Cigarettes have particulates that are not bioavailable and create the black lung tissue. Here in California we have banned any flavors from nicotine vapes so it’s very straight forward. The best vapes anymore are THC, due to psychoactive effects and flavors, similar level of safety to nicotine.
iwontberude··on Neutrino-1 8B
It has no ability to ground output in causality. It does not understand what causes humans to learn. It’s a correlation and randomness engine.
iwontberude··on Netflix employee fired for sharing personal details in retreat trust exercise
My religion uses hallucinogens in ceremony and if I got fired for speaking about my religious practice I would certainly sue the shit out of them.
iwontberude··on Netflix employee fired for sharing personal details in retreat trust exercise
Not as shocking when you realize you are wasting your downtime with work colleagues. I’d rather have control over my downtime regardless of who is paying.
iwontberude··on A $500 RL fine-tune of a 9B open model beat frontier models on catalog review
That was always the framing. I don’t understand your pedantry.
iwontberude··on Americans hate AI so much that politicians are losing their jobs over it
Those folds are bad, I like my folds tighter than that
