Octoprint is for job management/monitoring and is SUPER extensible. It gives you a web interface/camera view/manual control of the printer. You can do things like install a slicer plugin so you can drop an .stl file into the browser then it will slice and print.
Klipper is more like printer firmware. It's lower level than Octoprint.
The two can be used together.
I don’t think Apple is trying to get in their way.
Also… developing for documented hardware is also an endless treadmill of work as it evolves/new products are released.
It just has much less uncertainty.
I 100% agree it would be awesome if Apple released full documentation. Broadcom too. Probably others.
(All IMHO)
Because many installs (heck, going to a page with invalid cert in Safari!) ask for an admins password to install, which gives escalated privileges up to root.
So they added a level that requires higher than root access.
With this vulnerability, someone typing their password could allow beyond root privileges.
That is my simplified parsing of things.
Note - I didn’t read the article. I’m not in security. But I did live with Dan Kaminsky for close to 5 years. RIP :/
If you have a design/image creation software and XCode you could make almost any app.
Patreon doesn’t give any tools to creators to directly create.
“ Voice will let you listen to and share short, personal and enjoyable Voicegrams via electronic mail and on the World Wide Web by GNOME executives, employees and volunteers.”
ONVIF feeds info about camera capabilities, and URLs for the camera’s RTSP streams which can be used with many things including VLC.
ONVIF is a discovery/configuration protocol for many security/access control type things.
There are a number of open source etc programs that will discover/config the cameras.
Dan Kaminsky was my best friend. We lived together multiple times, and were working on finding a new place where we could hack together and help others do the impossible.
Losing him shattered my future for reasons I am not going to get into right now.
The fact that he got a black bar the next day really meant something to me as I was dealing with the aftermath.
Hacker news isn't a technology news site.
It's a community of brilliant who change the world with technology. A celebration of intellectual curiosity.
At least that's how I see it.
Your thoughts on that?
It’s the closest thing to wiring up electronics while the are on that I have used.
It’s not FOSS but I highly recommend playing with the trial for a few hours. The example code is great and very active forums.
Pure data is great too, same idea, same original Creator, has evolved in some Slightly different directions but not as polished.
No connection except happy user for 15 years.
I believe it was Jobs, Cook, and Ive (more or less in that order).
Early on, Cook was the operations person that helped turn Apple back into a functioning business.
Jobs wanted people to be able to accomplish things with as few buttons as possible.
Ive wanted to make perfect shiny pebbles with 0 buttons.
Cook wanted to make functional supply chains and products that didn’t break under warranty or beyond.
It was a triple point for good progress.
(Jobs, Ive, Cook etc did a phenomenal job re-imagining retail also IMHO)
