iguana_lawyer··on Balaji Srinivasan calls for tech to "exit democracy" and seize local governments
Because $$$
iguana_lawyer··on Pizza Hut to lay off California workers after minimum wage increase
This has nothing with minimum wage which is increasing to $20 for everyone in Seattle on January 1st and isn’t triggering a wave of fast food layoffs. This is just typical corporate cost cutting.
iguana_lawyer··on We have decided to pause driverless operations across all of our fleets
There were multiple incidents and people were killed
iguana_lawyer··on Apple Spent $1B on the M3 Tape-Out, Says Analyst
I see headlines like this and my first thought is how Elon Musk spent $43B to force people to read his bigoted tweets instead of literally anything else.
iguana_lawyer··on We have decided to pause driverless operations across all of our fleets
“We’ve decided to do shutdown after we were ordered to because our product killed some people”
iguana_lawyer··on Senators push for unredacted 9/11 documents on Saudi Arabia
Suspicious timing. The current attacks in Israel are trying to detail the normalization of relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel.
iguana_lawyer··on Vivaldi on iOS
I have tested this with half a dozen Chrome extensions and none of them worked. “Allows install” is misleading. “Allows download” is more accurate.
iguana_lawyer··on Floorp – A customisable Firefox fork from Japan
I have been using it for months and it’s great. It’s like Vivaldi but with Firefox under the hood instead of Chrome.
iguana_lawyer··on Blocking Visual Studio Code embedded reverse shell before it's too late
This very poorly written
iguana_lawyer··on Mastodon 4.2 released, with (opt-in) search, and UX improvements
A useless platform until they implement quote tweets. It’s been years. What is taking them so long?
iguana_lawyer··on iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus
USB-C means you’ll still have different cables with different speeds for different devices but now they’ll all look the same.
iguana_lawyer··on What You Say to Google Assistant and Alexa (Not Siri) Gets Used for Ad Targeting
It doesn’t have to be Siri itself. Any app that Apple gave access to the Siri private API could have done this.
iguana_lawyer··on The mobile game funding a revolution in Myanmar
No.
iguana_lawyer··on Microsoft is using malware-like pop-ups in Win11 to get people to ditch Chrome

iguana_lawyer··on Microsoft is using malware-like pop-ups in Win11 to get people to ditch Chrome
You should give Floorp a try. It’s like Vivaldi but with Firefox under the hood instead of Chrome.
iguana_lawyer··on WordPress introduces 100 year domain registrations
Optimistic to believe the internet, computers, or electric power will still exist in 100 years
iguana_lawyer··on Getting a job at Apple without going to college or doing LeetCode
I’ll save you a click: be lucky
iguana_lawyer··on Tell HN: t.co is adding a five-second delay to some domains
Yeah. HN bans your favorite white supremacist blogs. I don’t see a problem with that.
iguana_lawyer··on Fourteen days across the Atlantic, perched on a ship’s rudder
Americans commenting on this need to keep in mind that they could become refugees if there is an American civil war. It’s easy to judge others until you lose your home and all your possessions.
iguana_lawyer··on Ask HN: What will it take to get more people using Mastodon more?
Quoting someone while providing commentary/context is literally what journalists does. Mastodon is hostile to journalism.
iguana_lawyer··on (IEEE Spectrum) Your navigation app is making traffic unmanageable
This article is not well sourced and is inconsistent with lived experience.

Ten years ago navigation apps would almost always recommend freeways even when traffic was stalled and there was a faster route. Now I regularly get guided to exits to take routes through residential neighborhoods during rush hour.

iguana_lawyer··on Ask HN: What will it take to get more people using Mastodon more?
The main thing holding back Mastodon is the lack of quote retweet functionality. Without it, Mastodon is useless for the journalism and activism that made Twitter popular. Unfortunately, there is little hope this will change as Mastodon’s developers stubbornly and arrogantly refuse to implement it.

Frankly, I don’t think it would make a difference at this point. Mastodon has had a year to prove it can be a replacement for Twitter and it has failed terribly. I don’t think it can overcome the negative first impressions left by it’s obnoxious user experience. Like who’s bright idea was it to purposefully leave the official Mastodon app feature incomplete?

iguana_lawyer··on gpt-author: Generate an original fantasy novel using GPT-4 and Stable Diffusion
It writes in the style of Terry Goodkind?
iguana_lawyer··on Threads, an Instagram app
I tried to join a few months ago and had the same problem. I couldn’t join through the app no matter what I tried. Instant ban with no way to get unbanned. But I was able to sign up on the website without an issue. And once I had a working account, I could create multiple alternate accounts through the app.

It’s frustrating Instagram doesn’t have lists so you need a separate account for every interest.

iguana_lawyer··on Threads, an Instagram app
The only pathetic behavior I see is the CEO who is so obsessed with Augustus Caesar he cuts his hair to look like him.
iguana_lawyer··on Tesla gives UK owners grabbing stick after forcing them to get left-hand-drive
Teslas shouldn’t be allowed on the road
iguana_lawyer··on AMD CPU Use Among Linux Gamers Approaching 70% Marketshare
2003 will be the year of the Linux desktop
iguana_lawyer··on Ask HN: Could an oxygen concentrator increase my productivity?
Most of the US is currently blanketed with wildfire smoke. Are you sure CO2 is the problem? Are you testing for PM2.5, PM10, VOCs, humidity, etc?
iguana_lawyer··on Drastic increase in Tor clients from Germany
Looking at the chart it seems to line up with the war in Ukraine. Germany was a target of Prigozhin’s Internet Research Agency (troll farms). I wonder if we will see a drop in Tor usage now that his coup has failed and his organization is being dissolved.
iguana_lawyer··on Twitter Is DDOSing Itself
Earlier I noticed the infinite reloading happening on the logout page as well
