I can’t speak for academia, but in tech companies I’ve worked at I’ve seen a marked improvement in management when there’s a tech track for engineer advancement such that they never need to become managers, if they don’t want.
Clearly a good PR move for Apple.

It hadn't occurred to me before this article but after thinking about it I do depend upon Amazon/Goodreads ratings in large portion when choosing my next book.. Upon re-examination I think I'm going to factor in more book critics' opinions into my selection process.
More people reading is obviously only a good thing if you believe that reading is a good habit for people to have bc it exposes you to different arguments, opinions and ideas. I do think that reading is a net good. If you don't I'm interested to hear why.
