Sure, whatever, but I do note that it generated substantive commentary for a post that generated little of substance itself.

Ah, fuck it. Your moderation is inconsistent. Lots of frivolous and low quality comments sail right on by you, shitting up threads all over the site, but here you go picking on, yes, an admittedly low-quality yet heart-felt sub-thread starter that resulted in quality commentary that is now hidden from sight. What a stupid decision, axing good discussion because it started off poorly.

Ima fuck on off, no need to put up with your shit. Screw your head on right, guy.

What’s not comical is that you think the virus is doing less damage to your body than the vaccine. What a darkly absurd idea.
icantbebothered··on Commercial airlines in the US racked up 46 'close calls' in last month alone
It occurs to me that instead of blaming government, it’s really the non-voters who have created this absurd mess. If they voted, I believe that most of them would vote for the better candidates. But because they don’t vote, the highly incentivized voters—which is to say the single-issue crazies—get the win. Next thing you know, your libraries are closed, your teachers are quitting, your infrastructure fails, and your country starts looking like a third world nation with plummeting lifespans, millions of homeless, devastated economies, and more corruption than you can shake a stick at.

Please, encourage your friends and coworkers to vote. Not to tell them who to vote for but just to vote. It really does matter!

icantbebothered··on New plant-based pork ribs to feature edible vegan bones
Why TF would you even care? No one’s going to make you eat a poor simulacrum of pork, and of someone else is willing to eat it, it frees up more real meat for you. You are not being harmed by other people’s food choices.
icantbebothered··on Faith Healers Are Back, and They’re Getting Rich
Instead of trialing a vaccine that uses technologies that have been in development for a decade, you decided to trial a virus that no human body has ever had to deal with. Boy, does that makes sense! Godspeed and good luck continuing to roll the die.
icantbebothered··on US set to unveil long-awaited crackdown on real estate money laundering
> read Wilful Blindness by Sam Cooper

All Canadians should read it. It should be part of the high school curriculum.

Alas, they will always get rewarded for the attention-seeking behaviour. Always. Because it’s a sad fact that there are always people who are attracted to destructive attention-seekers, just as there are people attracted to mass murderers, satanic telepreachers, and promoters of poisonous ideologies. They simply don’t see these characters like you and I do. There’s money to be made by connecting these populations, from pamphlets and Speakers Corner to websites and Social Media. It’s always been a problem. But now, with a global population of billions, these trollish people are basically guaranteed to draw enough attention to have dangerous influence.

So tired of him. So tired.
icantbebothered··on iPhone 15 USB-C components leaked; may limit functionality
It better limit functionality that would enable a USB connection to compromise device security, otherwise one might as well buy something cheaper.
icantbebothered··on Tech workers react to UPS drivers landing a $170k a year package
Most tech workers wouldn’t last a day as a driver, let alone the years in the warehouse before you get a chance to drive.
icantbebothered··on News Corp staff blindsided by company’s use of AI producing articles for 'years'
> News Ltd bought up regional (small country town) newspapers extensively, to the point that the ACCC got concerned. They then proceeded (if I recall this correctly) to shut them down, and centralise news production with a small amount of local news injection.

Same thing happened in Canada with Post Media. Slaughtered local reporting. Endless go-arounds with the Competition Bureau. Now two-thirds owned by the right-wing hedge fund Chatham Asset Management. Same guys who owned the National Enquirer, famous for Batboy and hush-money suppression of scandalous Trump stories.

Yet how much worse off would they be had they caught Covid instead of the vaccine?
icantbebothered··on Satellite supergroup spots methane super-emitters
“Do deliberate”, I think. Like the mafia setting up a hazardous waste disposal company, and then simply dumping the waste into a ditch. Makes them a lot more money.
icantbebothered··on Satellite supergroup spots methane super-emitters
> what should pollution be measured as a function of?

Consumption? China is a huge emitter, but a large percentage of that comes from making products destined for America and Europe. IMO the emissions for those products should be assigned to the country that is purchasing them.

icantbebothered··on There’s a reason your Columbia shirt has a tiny pocket near your waistline
tldr: to dodge import duties.

I think duties are meant to help US manufacturing compete with foreign (read: third world) factories, where pay, safety, and environmental standards are much, much lower.

But maybe I’m wrong; duties often seem arbitrary and unhelpful, less a tool for helping citizens and more to hurt recalcitrant nations.

icantbebothered··on US tax code blamed as wealthy see major retirement account gains
It is, but as we have witnessed for decades, and intensely more so in recent years, the application of the law is inversely proportional to the wealth of the defendant.
icantbebothered··on For the love of god, stop microwaving plastic
Past fifty years, maybe. I don’t think current food “safe” plastics are the same as those a century ago.

> If they were more than trivially harmful, we would know by now.

“The Increasing Prevalence in Intersex Variation from Toxicological Dysregulation in Fetal Reproductive Tissue Differentiation and Development by Endocrine-Disrupting Chemicals”

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5017538/

Sperm counts are dropping globally. Hormone disruption can help explain it. Wild life that live near human populations (and pets, and lab animals on controlled diets) are unexpected getting fatter. Hormone disruption can help explain it. Amphibians are having weird developmental problems caused by, you guessed it, hormonal dysfunction.

Variation in human physiology and psychology scales on a gradient; from subtle differences in brain structure, which might not even be noticeable to others, to macro differences visible to the eye. A chemical that can cause extreme variation of the external genitalia surely also can cause changes in glands and brains. IMO we see signals of the effects of hormonal dysregulation in our society with increasing prevalence.

I think plastics have been quite a bit more than trivially harmful.

icantbebothered··on U.S. Hunts Chinese Malware That Could Disrupt American Military Operations
I have always been disappointed that the military used a consumer, general-purpose OS and connected itself to the unauthenticated, unencrypted public network. It’s absolute nonsense. Destined to fail.
icantbebothered··on Why charge an EV when you can just swap its battery?
But the idea is that you don’t own the battery. You essentially rent it. The battery owner has high incentive to keep the battery good shape, to maximize their return, and to recycle the rare earth elements. The swap station can charge the battery slower than if you were dropping in, perform more sophisticated diagnostics, and ensure batteries are removed from circulation before they become problems.
icantbebothered··on Apple already shipped attestation on the web, and we barely noticed
Apropos of nothing, TIL some Apple iOS devices have a “Lockdown Mode” to be used in critical circumstances.

https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT212650

“Lockdown Mode is an optional, extreme protection that’s designed for the very few individuals who, because of who they are or what they do, might be personally targeted by some of the most sophisticated digital threats. Most people are never targeted by attacks of this nature.”

However evil they are, privacy/security appears to be a case of putting their money where their mouth is. Interesting.

icantbebothered··on Apple already shipped attestation on the web, and we barely noticed
Neither seems trustworthy. Google because, I mean, Google, they’ve repeatedly demonstrated that they can’t be trusted, whether regarding privacy or LTS, and Apple because it’s just “trust the device”, which can obviously be gamed by developer accounts or other hacks like simply walking past a rack of devices confirming touch or face recognition.

There’s no stopping fraudulent behaviour, only defensive barriers to dissuade the non-nation-state actors.
