iamichi··on This page crashes Internet Explorer, even version 9 and 10.
Same here. Looks like they've deleted it. I couldn't find a cached copy of it either.
iamichi··on Olympics 2012: A Bruce Schneier Moment
> "the best solution would be to designate a permanent Olympic venue somewhere isolated — Diego Garcia would be a prime candidate"

A better idea would be letting the Chagossians return to their homeland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chagossians).

Here is the video of the launch, for those that missed it. http://www.esa.int/SPECIALS/Vega/SEMJ8LYXHYG_0.html
iamichi··on UK network o2 send your number to every site you visit
I had the header at 9.30 this morning. I just refreshed the page and my number has gone, so either they've fixed it or I'm using a different proxy that doesn't have the issue.
iamichi··on UK network o2 send your number to every site you visit
Just been looking into this and from the little info I can find, it looks like your phone number would be classed as personal information and so covered by the data protection act.
iamichi··on UK network o2 send your number to every site you visit
Same for me.
iamichi··on UK network o2 send your number to every site you visit
Here is a un-minified version: http://pastebin.com/t0FhS2Z7

My quick glace at it agrees with you, it looks like it replaces the URLs of the images, presumably to load compressed versions.

All sites that use Cloudflare will show as using NGINX and they did 25 billion page views in December... http://blog.cloudflare.com/100-billion-page-views

So I would have thought that helps a fair bit with NGINX's market share stats.

iamichi··on Free HTML5 Kindle Book
Yeah, I just got it from Amazon UK for free too. I checked the invoice and it all says £0.
iamichi··on Poll: Will you move your domains from GoDaddy today?
Can you transfer to another internal GoDaddy account in a different name (that you create) and then transfer them out?
iamichi··on Create a Forum - Ribbot
It looks like their Support section an example. http://support.ribbot.com/
iamichi··on foo@bar.com is a real email address
They should just use Postini and let Google handle it. Really impressive service that.
iamichi··on Upgrading Dropbox to 16GB for 25USD
I did this last year and hit the maximum number of referrals in 5 days for about $10. I used an Ad-words voucher as well.
iamichi··on Nokia announces the Lumia 800, the 'first real Windows Phone'
I just finished my first Mango app and it was a overall nicer experience than Android. Overall on par with iOS for me, if a bit easier.
iamichi··on Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now" on Google Japan
I saw this just after reading the Teal and Orange post (http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2960235). The entire Google animation is basically teal and orange.
iamichi··on AeroFS - File Sync Without Servers
i'd like to try it as well if any of your could spare an invite please?
iamichi··on Ask HN: Is it okay to build a startup in ASP .NET?
I'm part of a startup that is all written in ASP.Net MVC and we all really like it. The costs of the licenses were our only initial concern about using it, as they are a bit prohibitive, but it can always be hosted on something like Azure. All our back end systems are written in C# as well. For us, things like the excellent debugging features in VS.Net and the fact that there was a lot more experience with Windows and SQL Server in our team, we decided to keep to our strengths, so as to get going as quickly as possible.
iamichi··on 50 Google +1s on sale at SEO shop for $9.99
Both sites (http://seoshop.biz/ and http://plussem.com/) use Google Analytics. So Google could feasibly track who makes a purchase. If you make purchase on those sites and you've recently logged into your Google Webmaster tools or something and then get a load of +1's Google could surely fairly easily see that.
iamichi··on 50 Google +1s on sale at SEO shop for $9.99
the article is wrong, it's not seoshop.com it's http://seoshop.biz/
iamichi··on Who's your SSH buddy?
Doesn't seem like front page news. Use key based auth and disable root login. You can also get an ssh client on your iphone if you don't mind keeping your private keys on it, just make sure to use a long password and be prepared to change all your server keys if you lose your phone. I also ban every IP that even tries to login as root.
iamichi··on Spotify launches in the US
I'm happy they've finally launched the US version. I've been a subscriber since it launched and had a lot of love for it since. I'm curious to how it compares with the other services users get stateside and looking forward to reading some American reviews..
iamichi··on Hover.com: we store & email passwords in plaintext for usability
I emailed a major technology retailer about this when they sent me my password in plaintext. This is the response I got (I pointed out that she made my point for me, but I didn't get another reply)...

Dear XXXXXX

Thank you for your email dated xx/xx/2011. I apologise for the delay in my response.

The only way that people can get your password is to hack into our system or your emails. It has to be sent in plain text for you to know what your password is.

I hope this helps.

Kind Regards

iamichi··on Dropbox TOS Includes Broad Copyright License
yeah, they've become really bad. i loved the service but moved to spideroak last week when i read that anyone could access my files with any password, while they fixed a bug. that along with the privacy/encryption stuff convinced me to move. wuala seems to be the most secure service i've seen though.
iamichi··on Dropbox sued for June 19 Authentication Bug
For this reason, I think I'm jumping ship now and moving to Spideroak or Wuala.

iamichi··on LulzSec releases trove of AZ law enforcement documents
For some reason I get the impression at least one of them is from the UK.
iamichi··on LulzSec supposedly claims its biggest coup yet: The entire UK 2011 Census
Name and DoB of everyone in a household alone can make it much easier for someone to pose as you to say a credit card company.
iamichi··on LulzSec supposedly claims its biggest coup yet: The entire UK 2011 Census
What pissed me off was that it is a legal requirement to complete the census (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom_Census_2011#Oper...), so everyones personal details are in the database, which if stollen is a identify thief's dream load.
