hybridtupel··on Show HN: Pony – a messenger for mindful correspondence
If post cards are also your thing you could also like Postcrossing [0]! There you will sent a post card to a stranger most likely in another country and in turn you will receive one from another person. I like the idea of combining online matching and offline letter sending.

hybridtupel··on Dislike button would improve Spotify's recommendations
The algorithm often is very strange. My mixtapes most often contain single tracks of audiobooks I listened to. Looks like Spotify treats audiobook tracks like any other song which is obviously very silly. Who doesn‘t want to listen to random audiobook snippets.
hybridtupel··on Tell HN: You can block YouTube ads on iOS 15 using Safari Extensions
I am also using AdGuard for several years now and it always blocked the YouTube ads in mobile Safari for me. Recently some quirks appeared which require to refresh the page one time to load the actual video. Other than that it works very well.
hybridtupel··on German region to fine Tesla for illegal construction
At first I was thinking since when does Tesla build (war) tanks. Because then I’d understand the fuzz.
hybridtupel··on Using a magnetic string to fish for a lost iPhone 12 in a Berlin canal
Indeed it is [1]

hybridtupel··on Show HN: Paperd.ink – Open-source e-paper development board
Product is looking very promising. Unfortunately using Indigogo. This is literally the worst crowd funding platform I know. Lots of scam going on and Indigogo doesn’t care a bit about the backers because they get their share. Therefore this place is dead to me.
hybridtupel··on Show HN: Svelte NodeGUI, a lightweight Electron alternative with native UI
I guess Tauri [1] is like what you are looking for. Was featured here a a few days ago [2].

hybridtupel··on We live in an age of distractions, dealing with constant mental stimulus
I think what was meant here are the countless (monetarized) apps and courses which gamify the meditation experience of course. You are totally right that the original intention of meditation is quite the opposite. No app, gadget or anything else required.

Edit: Grammar

hybridtupel··on Downpour: DRM Free Audiobooks
Cannot comment on the audiobook contents as I am hardly put off by the website. It doesn't work on my phone as it is loading tons of stuff and on my PC it loads but is very slow, doesn't cache anything. Thats a pitty as I really like having DRM free audiobooks. Will therefore look into the other site metioned already.
hybridtupel··on Downpour: DRM Free Audiobooks
I could be mistaken but isn’t overcast only for podcasts i.e. streaming sources. But the questions are about audiobooks. Or is there a way to import audio book files into overcast?
hybridtupel··on Apple unveils M1, its first system-on-a-chip for portable Mac computers
Also just two ports on a PRO model. C‘mon there is plenty of room on both sides. Maybe lets it look elegant but then the cable mess will be on the desk, thanks.
hybridtupel··on I Got My Attention Back (2017)
The ironie of reading this on HN. Just think about it. And think about reading this comment too.
hybridtupel··on Simple Personal Finance Tracking with GnuCash
For the same reasons I am still using the classic version of YNAB (paid once). But unfortunately the Mac version is not compatible with Catalina so I am also forced to search for a new app.
hybridtupel··on I’m not really a good web developer, I'm just good at Googling things
Yes, exactly!

There are tons of getting started guides for everything but beyond that, one will find a wasteland of information most of the time or it is scattered around in different locations. So in this case the engineer is working hard to figure out which pieces of the puzzle belong in which place. Not to mention that nobody knows how the finished puzzle has to look like.

hybridtupel··on I’m not really a good web developer, I'm just good at Googling things
I want to question this. Sure there are many things where a google search brings up a better solution than the own spontaneous one (for example path finding algorithms for games). But every problem beyond a trivial ‘getting started’ needs more thought than an algorithm one can copy and paste from google. Even if it’s only the glue code to bring all parts together or transferring the knowledge to the problem trying to solve. Also what others already mentioned about noisy search results: Deciding which of the (hundreds of) possible solutions might bring the desired outcome is an engineering skill. Another thing: When googling the same issue for the third time one should question why he has not memorized it by now (e.g. syntax of commonly used bash commandos etc.). And by internalizing one gets better as engineer every day without relying on google.
hybridtupel··on Toyota announces sustainable vehicle ecosystem [video]
Looks more like an ad to me.
hybridtupel··on Writing Documentation When You Aren't a Technical Writer – Part Two
There were some discussions about that here before. One of them is this "Make Medium readable again": https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=16516126

hybridtupel··on MIT 9.11: The Human Brain (Spring 2018)
This looks nice, but one can only attend in person, am I right? Or are there any online materials available?
hybridtupel··on Flattr 2.0 launches to the public
There is [1] with a little bit about the privacy issue, but yes you have to trust them, not sending more than the urls to flatter.

hybridtupel··on Finish your stuff
This sounded oddly familiar, until I read about the projects Libmill and Ribosome. And yeah it's a post already submitted in 2015 and should be labeled 2015.
hybridtupel··on Show HN: Emojielog – A simple emojie journal application
I surely can't get used to american dates. I thought "why do I score 4 out of 30"? Edit: Ok it's not american, but it's nevertheless confusing to me.
hybridtupel··on Startpage – private search engine
I think the search is not particulary slow, but since they have the new design they load some script which delays showing the results significantly (like 2 seconds). When blocking the script, searching is super fast but the pagination is broken. That's what annoys me the most.
hybridtupel··on Did Pixar accidentally delete Toy Story 2 during production? (2012)
The video link is broken. Here is (what seems to be) the same video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dhp_20j0Ys
hybridtupel··on Dillo: A Tiny Graphical Web Browser
Which os do you use now? Why did you change?
hybridtupel··on From a million miles away, NASA camera shows moon crossing face of Earth
The only thing I could think about was Iron Sky busted :D
hybridtupel··on A visual timeline of programming languages
Interestingly if you search for a term the information view is changed but not the time bar. Then if you click on another language it will show the wrong one. It seems that the view just jumps relative to the last selected mark on the bar.
hybridtupel··on A visual timeline of programming languages
Didn't find it either. JavaScript is not Java...

edit: Well it seems that this is a browser issue. In chrome I find ColdFusion, in Firefox it's Java instead.

hybridtupel··on New Humble Bundle Geared Towards Game Making
What I really don't like about the bundle is following: "All purchases are for your personal use only." This is written in small size beneath the steam keys. Nothing mentioned about that on the main page though.
hybridtupel··on Where Electric Vehicles Cause More Pollution Than Gas Cars
Isn't it possible in the us to choose by oneself from which power company one obtains the electricity? In europe you can for example choose to support companies which only use renewable energies.
hybridtupel··on Tarsnap GUI for the desktop
It's not directly related to the gui but I see the tarsnap service for the first time. The last release of tarsnap was two years ago. Is it so secure that there were not even bug fixes necessary since then?

Apart from that the service with the gui looks quite promising to me and is totally worth a try.
