hybridtupel··on BMW Group to deploy humanoid robots in production in Germany for the first time
The first question I had when watching this was how this robot doesn’t fall over with just these two tiny wheels. The center of mass is much higher than on a Segway, for example, isn’t it?
hybridtupel··on 4 billion if statements (2023)
Why not run both and use the result retrieved the fastest.
hybridtupel··on Microsoft confirms Windows 11 is about to change
I guess now is the best time to switch to Linux. MacOS 26 being super sluggish and looking like a soap bubble game for children. Windows becoming a SkyNet OS. Meanwhile Steam just announced their new hardware on SteamOS, emphasizing that users still own their hardware and can install whatever they want.
hybridtupel··on I almost got hacked by a 'job interview'
Not sure if sarcastic but to bookmark better upvote
hybridtupel··on Betty Crocker broke recipes by shrinking boxes
yes for your health
hybridtupel··on LoRA Learns Less and Forgets Less
This is about Low-rank adaptation. Not to be confused with LoRa the long range proprietary radio communication technique, which hopefully doesn't learn at all.
hybridtupel··on AI-generated sad girl with piano performs the text of the MIT License
It would be hilarious to include the song instead of the license text in a codebase
hybridtupel··on Xzbot: Notes, honeypot, and exploit demo for the xz backdoor
Israel is not in Europe
hybridtupel··on MongoDB security notice
Luckily already using https://devnull-as-a-service.com/
hybridtupel··on Bluetooth keystroke-injection in Android, Linux, macOS and iOS
That’s unfortunately only disconnecting until the next day (see text appearing above when pressing).
hybridtupel··on The beauty of finished software
Does finished mean it doesn't get updates at all or just no new features? Because most software today has some kind of communication / network connection and therefore could have security vulnerabilities. If these are not patched then I'd rather not use this finished software.
hybridtupel··on Use YouTube to improve your English pronunciation
This is hurting my ears. There is something similar for German: E.g. Zucchini: https://youtu.be/RqPqOTFh-Sc
hybridtupel··on Kanboard: free and open source Kanban project management software
Should be "docker run -p 8080:80 kanboard/kanboard" But then not sure what username / password to use. The docs definitely could be structured better.
hybridtupel··on On the unexpected joys of Denglisch, Berlinglish and global Englisch
Though there is herunterladen as a verb, there is no noun for download(s). “Herunterlad(s)” doesn’t quite cut it. So because the term Download is already used as a noun why noy use downloaden as the verb.
hybridtupel··on Dropbox telemetry can't be disabled
I can imagine they “fixed” it by just sending the telemetry now to the TLD so nobody complains any longer.
hybridtupel··on Python malware starting to employ anti-debug techniques
> Malware that is more stealth-conscious would just stop running without any indication, instead of interacting with external processes.

I always wondered if we could just use this against the malware. E.g. just run a useless process which is named/looks like a debugger and the malware stops itself. Of course that's nothing to be relied on on its own but maybe as an additional layer of defense?

hybridtupel··on Why I program in Erlang (2012)
Have you checked out Elixir?

- Can be deployed to Heroku or Fly.io without much effort

- Well designed tools like mix

- There is a thriving community

- "basic open source libraries" highly depends on the context, but yes there are not as many as for more popular languages (yet)

hybridtupel··on Audiobooks on Spotify
Exactly this! They litteraly treat audiobooks like a music album. Randomize tracks? Check! Not storing where the audiobook was stopped? Check! Featuring actual personal mixtapes of chapters taken from multiple books? Check! With that experience I'd never buy a single book there.
hybridtupel··on Sony Android TVs waste 25W in standby due to built-in Google Chromecast
Whenever I read something like this I am wondering if there was still some TV without any of these „smart“ features. Just a screen and the receiver for television. Then I can connect an Apple TV, Xbox, PlayStation or whatever. Isn’t there a demand for that? I mean I don’t need another device which breaks or is unsafe to use after 2 years because it doesn’t get any more updates.
hybridtupel··on Ask HN: How do you get better at debugging/finding a solution?
Working for a bigger company I’m hesitant to go for a walk as that would mean I need to stay longer in the afternoon/evening. Even when going for a walk solves the problem, there is still little acceptance to count it as working hours. I think this mentality should shift somehow as it would benefit the company and the employee.
hybridtupel··on Enclave: An Unpickable Lock
> if you do have any questions or comments about this please put them below

I find that part funny as I never saw any question in a comment answered.

hybridtupel··on Life is not short
That paragraph is strange to me, too. First he says you should not waste time or let others steal your time. But then he goes on that you definitely should spend time on philosophy. And when philosophy raises more questions than it answers, isn’t it the also a waste of time?
hybridtupel··on ‘Blade Runner’ at 40
I just saw the movie for the first time and had quite some expectations. It was the directors cut. And while the overall setting was interesting and there were quite good scenes in it, for me it was just too long and I found it quite boring. Mainly the awfully stretched fight at the end put me off. Not sure if I should or want to revisit it after some time. As I also did not really find the sequel that convincing. But it got me thinking in what people see in these movies which I can’t.
hybridtupel··on Ask HN: How do you sync your computer’s development configurations/environment?
What if I told you that you can have both? For me it's ctrl when I hold it down and use it with another key and esc when I press it briefly. Can be set up on a Mac with Karabiner Elements.
hybridtupel··on Coloring computers: non-electronic computers that work when you color them
I guess the reason for that is making the instructions understandable even if printing in b/w.
hybridtupel··on Pharo 10
A bit late to the show, but I'm trying to use Pharo on an M1. It runs for sure, however the interface is blurry. Seems like it doesn't know how to render hi dpi. Is there some setting to get that right?
hybridtupel··on Show HN: HN Avatars in 357 bytes
I see what you did there ;)
hybridtupel··on Show HN: Serve your saved articles to a Kindle
There is a similar service [1] however it does not collect articles but lets you send single articles to your kindle via your email address.

hybridtupel··on Inspecting Web Views in macOS
My thoughts exactly. I never liked these iCloud system settings and now I know why. They are not native but janky web views. Same for the Mac App Store which behaves very similar.
hybridtupel··on New‐onset autoimmune phenomena post‐Covid‐19 vaccination
At least you got a diagnosis. I know someone having the symptoms of a pericarditis for several weeks now but the doctors don't acknowledge them, telling they were merely pycholocial. If nobody reports these issues then they won't be widely known and they won't be treated.
