humansareok1··on Extracting concepts from GPT-4
Sad to note that the team that built this is now completely defunct.
humansareok1··on Holographic theory of learning
This is the correct answer. The rest of the replies are cope from people who do nothing but study CS and SWE and think that therefore makes them knowledgeable of everything.
humansareok1··on Holographic theory of learning
You are confused, you are learning arithmetic to help you understand recipes. Knowing that water plus yeast plus flour in a certain proportion = bread does not teach you how to compose music and vice versa.
humansareok1··on Holographic theory of learning
This strains credulity. You do not by osmosis learn how to solve the wave equations or manipulate them by playing the Tuba.

What you are doing is connecting related fields however tangential they may be and implying that learning about one makes you learn about the others which is just not true. Let's take a Music Theory student and give them a series of problems from Landau and Lifshitz, how well do you think they will do?

humansareok1··on Holographic theory of learning
I'm sorry but have you ever learned a language? It what universe do you need to read a text about QM to learn spanish??
humansareok1··on Holographic theory of learning
Yeah go ahead and explain how learning Mandarin teaches you about Quantum Mechanics or how learning Music Theory helps you bake cakes. Cute idea that falls apart under casual inspection.
humansareok1··on OpenAI didn’t copy Scarlett Johansson’s voice for ChatGPT, records show
Imo it doesn't sound like SJ and if they can produce the actual recorded voice lines from the actress they used and whatever model they used to clone her voice it will be trivial to prove that if need be.
humansareok1··on The Stanford Startup and the MIT Startup (2013)
This actually works though. Pre-Alpha games get limited releases on Steam and can raise millions that can be used to finish and polish the game.
humansareok1··on VCs aren’t your friends
I'm sorry but your quality as a student does not qualify you to advise companies on how they should be growing given that they have no experience seeing how a company grows...

Would you be ok with a undergrad with no more experience than a single internship coming in and dictating how your Engineering Org should be run? Or generally writing blog posts about how to be a great engineer when they have probably never seen a great engineer let alone become one themselves?

humansareok1··on VCs aren’t your friends
The number of Stanford Juniors with 1 summer internship at a VC posting 'deep' Startup insights or advice is shocking. Like what do these kids with literally no experience running or starting anything know about companies? It's mind boggling.
humansareok1··on Book people think they know why 9-year-olds stop reading for fun
I know it did that for some of my classmates but I was quite interested in the competition aspect so it drove me to read a lot.
humansareok1··on Coding interviews are stupid (ish)
Yes of course this is true but I was responding to this common idea that high salaries, say over 300k, don't actually exist in the US when they do and are very common for Engineers at large SV tech companies.
humansareok1··on Coding interviews are stupid (ish)
Retirees usually
humansareok1··on Coding interviews are stupid (ish)
>They must have a degree from an accredited institution before they can begin practicing, and part of earning the degree is operating on cadavers, so, yes.

You know what I meant. You have merely created a series of strawmen. They don't need to perform a trial surgery every time they interview for a new job. The same goes for all my examples so nice try.

humansareok1··on Coding interviews are stupid (ish)
The ways every other field on earth interviews people? Do Surgeons need to perform mock surgeries before they are hired? Do Accountants need to complete a test audit? Do Lawyers perform a mock trial?
humansareok1··on Coding interviews are stupid (ish)
Missed the step where they filter out anyone w/o a degree in CS from MIT/Stanford/Berkeley/UIUC/CMU.
humansareok1··on Coding interviews are stupid (ish)
It's not about being able to program. It's much more about product sense and system design.
humansareok1··on Coding interviews are stupid (ish)
Do you work in California for a company in this list? Meta Amazon Google Netflix Airbnb Stripe Square Microsoft

If not it's unsurprising. But these actually are typical offers at those companies including Base Salary + Stock + Bonus.

humansareok1··on Coding interviews are stupid (ish)
To be fair I think most top tier companies vest quarterly so...
humansareok1··on Coding interviews are stupid (ish)
How are people still so misinformed about Tech salaries?

Are you in the EU? Salaries are lower across the board there for engineers.

In the US for Silicon Valley Type large Tech Companies the starting salary for New Graduate SWE's is 150k USD on the low end.

For a senior engineer at FAANG it can easily get above 500k USD.

humansareok1··on How to Make More Money Renting a GPU Than Nvidia Makes Selling It
I challenge you to try to get it working and train a basic LLM yourself on multiple AMD gpus. It is far worse than the situation with Nvidia GPUs/Drivers and Linux circa the mid 2010s. Which is saying a lot...

But don't take my word for it. Geohot, maybe one of the best hackers of our generation can't even it working: https://wccftech.com/tinycorp-ditches-amd-tinybox-ai-package...

It IS trash and it's clearly NOT mature. These are not mutually exclusive. There have been attempts to get AMD to open source their firmware to let people work on it since they themselves seem disinterested in doing so. Until then AMD is not a real choice for serious ML work.

humansareok1··on Book people think they know why 9-year-olds stop reading for fun
Idk about anyone else but my school had a program called Accelerated Reader where you could read a book and take a test about it to score points. Harder books were worth more points, at the time I think Anna Karenina was the "hardest" book on the list. Anyway the drive to win was what initially got me reading a lot.
humansareok1··on Book people think they know why 9-year-olds stop reading for fun
>how do you find books they'd be interested in? Like, that's the goal! You can't just assume the solution.

What a strange question?

If they are interested in fantasy movies give them a fantasy book. If they're interested in mystery, the same. If they're interested in Dinosaurs, the same. How is this some great challenge? The things you like to read about are the same things you already like... Are you implying you know nothing about your daughter?

humansareok1··on Book people think they know why 9-year-olds stop reading for fun
This is not a bad thing. Kids shouldn't even be exposed to the mind altering dopamine tsunami that is modern media, Youtube, TikTok, Instagram, etc.
humansareok1··on Book people think they know why 9-year-olds stop reading for fun
It's probably a mistake to think kids need new books to be published. The classics are classic for a reason. There are many childhoods worth of incredible books already available. I'm not weeping for struggling authors. If they write something incredible it will be noticed, if they don't then just like you said Bridge to Terabithia, Nancy Drew, Redwall, HP, The Hardy Boys, Chronicles of Narnia, Eragon, etc, etc, etc. still exist.
humansareok1··on A company is building a giant compressed-air battery in the Australian outback
>I wonder what the case is for it.

That there is a finite supply of Lithium available on Earth?

humansareok1··on How to Make More Money Renting a GPU Than Nvidia Makes Selling It
>Our first offering is the AMD MI300x instead of Nvidia or Intel products.

But why? Is there even a market for this? People want GPUs for DNN training and inference and the AMD ecosystem for that is absolute trash. Basically unusable at scale.

humansareok1··on GPT-4.5 or GPT-5 being tested on LMSYS?
>It was a test to see whether or not this LLM might actually be useful to me

AKA a Metric lol.

>using this chatbot for real work is at best a huge waste of time, and at worst unconscionably reckless.

Keep living with your head in the sand if you want

humansareok1··on GPT-4.5 or GPT-5 being tested on LMSYS?
Its been known that most of these models hallucinate research articles frequently, perplexity.ai seems to do quite well in that regard. Not sure why that is your specific metric though when LLMs seem to be improving across a large class of other metrics.
humansareok1··on GPT-4.5 or GPT-5 being tested on LMSYS?
Unfortunately this is not reliable, many Non-GPT models happily claim to be GPT-4 e.g.
