hugoromano··on Twitter 'troll' to pay six-figure sum
Smells bad to me. Paying 6 figures without HMRC touching it, hummm! People that engage defamation need to have a proper sentence, it can start we community service.

hugoromano··on Morgan Stanley CEO to NYC workers: Be back in the office by September or else
Maybe, another scam with renting offices to Morgan Stanley.
hugoromano··on Lisbon has shared dissident info with repressive regimes for years
What’s amazing is the wrongdoers blame a 70s law, when GDPR is place, and well know. The only legitimate entity to receive such information was PSP(the police responsible) no one else, not even the government.

For me this is the tip of the iceberg, privacy violations in city councils can be used for personal gains and organized crime.

hugoromano··on 3,000 eggs abandoned after drone scares birds in California
not even humans. what humans don't understand is that when you protect ecosystems, i.e. the planet you protect your own species. We are part of a biological "balance" a change creates risks for us.
hugoromano··on Booking.com to repay €65M Dutch State aid after €28M in bonuses for 3 US execs
With interests please, and penalties for not abiding by contract.
hugoromano··on Booking.com gives €28m in bonuses to three top execs; Took €65m in State aid
What is shocking to me, is why aggregators got bailouts. This is not sustainable for the market. 16% to 30% commission, taxes, costs, almost hotels are subsidizing tourist stays. There is a path outside the marketplaces, we offer plenty of perks for direct guests and it works.
hugoromano··on Booking.com gives €28m in bonuses to three top execs; Took €65m in State aid
Booking.com does nothing special, it is the hotels that charge your card, and pay a commission to Booking.com. The only thing is that they enforce some common policies. Hotels give power to the marketplaces and then Stockholm syndrome kicks in.

I know it is hard, but I have done it and I am a Revenue Manager in hospitality and a tours company. You have to be strong, it is a long process where you get repeat customers and friends of customers. A small loyalty program, best protection if your customers deals directly. one on one relationship but it works.
hugoromano··on Booking.com gives €28m in bonuses to three top execs; Took €65m in State aid
Stop using marketplaces and book directly, these companies have no risks and take 16% to 30% commissions. If consumers start booking directly, recovery from the pandemic will be much faster.
hugoromano··on A Policy of Activism in the Workplace Is Anti-Fellowship
Some years ago I had manager that replied to a staff member ”you are paid to work, not to think or speak”. Yep, the company went bust. People need to be cared for, if they want to talk about Pluto and politics, let them and listen. This all goes back to a passive vs active operations. The pandemic created too much active work, online meetings.

hugoromano··on Before buying a NYT subscription, here's what it'll take to cancel it
This post was an inspiration, so I decided to cancel my subscription. It was a swift cancellation, 3 minutes, maybe because of the effect of this thread.

I typed 2 x "I want to speak with areal person". regardless of the question of the bot, then NY Times account number. After that, to the real agent I typed "I can't afford the NY Times subscription".

The "it's me not you" approach is perfect in persuasion.

hugoromano··on Uber discovered they’d been defrauded out of 2/3 of their ad spend
Got a call from our Google Ads account manager to better match conversion analytics with Google Ads, after 90 days we found that the ads didn't convert at all, no change in sales. End result was to suspend our Google Ads budget. The best phone call I got from Google staff.
hugoromano··on Google, Facebook reportedly agreed to work together to fight antitrust probes
Cartelization?
hugoromano··on Stripe migrates Stripe Subscriptions users to more expensive Stripe Billing
Complex customers can use 0.5% extra service from Stripe, they could even build their own solution. Billing, recurring, invoicing can be done here. What could be interesting is setting up a billing service that the client brings its own Payment Service (checkout.com, stripe.com, adyen.com).
hugoromano··on Stripe migrates Stripe Subscriptions users to more expensive Stripe Billing
Stripe is charging extra 0.5% for the billing feature, so a billing charge goes in the US with stripe 3.4% + 30¢. It could be done for 2.9% + 30¢ + 5¢, stripe will still get the its cut, but not the extra 0.5%.
hugoromano··on Stripe migrates Stripe Subscriptions users to more expensive Stripe Billing
¢5/transactions for billing services we could do it, might need some small seed funding to set up a small dev team. Do you think we could get interest customers?
hugoromano··on Stripe migrates Stripe Subscriptions users to more expensive Stripe Billing
5¢ made sense, 0.5% is a parasitic approach, the tech stack and engineering costs them 0.1¢ per recurring transaction.
hugoromano··on Stripe Climate
Climate by Stripe is nonsense. We need action and mindset change, not another fee. Eventually people will be arrested by carbon offsetting fraud, fake projects and ecosystem destruction. Wait for it...

hugoromano··on The Dyson Battery Electric Vehicle
Can't trust Dyson with batteries, my worst experience ever. Ended my problems by ordering via AliExpress from China at one-tenth the price bought from Dyson.
hugoromano··on Speed.cloudflare.com
I'm 900Km away from the datacentre via a submarine fibre but the way routing is done it feels it is metadata surveillance.

hugoromano··on BGP and RPKI
My Logs, for the last 30 days, domains validated with DNSSEC was 5.34%. In general, it feels that ISPs like to be slow adopting standards, e.g. IPv6 it is still rolling.
hugoromano··on BGP and RPKI
Cloudflare approach is pushy, but many companies need a push. No RPKI and also no DNSSEC support. When will Andrews & Arnold do something about it?
