If I had a penny for every esperanto speaker who also does software....
huachimingo··on Ask HN: I'm interested in so many disciplines, but what can I do with that?
I'll give you an example.

Lets say that you love to cook meat at barbecues. You love all the aspects of the cooking: type of meat, time, taste, condiments...

Another guy comes and asks you to be the local meat cutter at a store, as a job.

Would you accept? My answer would be no (its just a hobby for me).

Also, you can do a vocational test. If every area has the same %, that means you could go study to any area, so just go for it.

What an amazing design.

huachimingo··on Who Says C is Simple?
ANSI C and it's standard library reference can be read in a small book (near 150-200 pages).

Lua has nearly the same length, small reference too.

huachimingo··on Who Says C is Simple?
Its like in math, "read the masters" if you want to learn more (sometimes).

huachimingo··on Ask HN: Anyone here have good material for learning how to sketch from scratch?
You could see projection types or technical drawing books/methods.

I suck at drawing 3D with perspective, but with a cheap isometric projection you can draw open spaces fairly easy (ofc there are more perspectives, but for game map sketching, its pretty useful). The main benefit is that you have measured AXIS, so if you dont have the skill to draw a 3D stair, just remember that its a slope between a perpendicular plane.

You can draw 3D functions/shapes this way. There are special methods for some shapes. https://www.compuphase.com/axometr.htm

You could make it even more cheap by using aproximations to the isometric perspective (ex: use 30° from the horizontal line) and rejecting realist proportions: 1) Grab a square grid paper 2) Set a center point, this will be (0,0) 3) Draw a line segment from (0,0) to (2,1), this is your X axis. 4) Repeat the same for the other direction, the Y axis, from (0,0) to (-2,1). Now you have an horizontal plane. 5)Draw a vertical line from (0,0) to (0,2), for the Z vertical axis This is the "cheap" iso projection.

TL;DR When you have Axis, measures and ratios are your friends.

huachimingo··on How I learned French in 12 months (2020)
Books that teach a language using only that language, yes. Best example that comes to mind is "Lingua Latina per se Ilustrata" in Latin.
huachimingo··on How I learned French in 12 months (2020)
If you feel confident about your Latin/Romance general vocabulary (you already know how they work), I would recommend you to read old teaching/natural method books.

Like these ones, the first has every page written in french and english (1647,but its like Assimil series), and the second is from basic school: https://play.google.com/store/books/details?id=yWf4czen8jIC

Same with old pokemon games.
huachimingo··on Top Performers Have a Superpower: Happiness
I would say a common problem with his attitude is that some people can become bored very quickly. Why give facts nobody asked? Why talk about those things if you are not an expert?

Then he unlearns that optimism because he is alone and loses that "happy" attitude.

huachimingo··on The fastest way to copy a file?
In one case, the fastest way would be to not have to copy it, just reuse the same file.
huachimingo··on Ask HN: What is your favourite gaming hardware/device?
The PSP has tons of emulators/homebrew + native PS1 support, and you can use Android or PC to emulate the DS/GBA pretty well (same instruction set or JIT-ted emulators). Good thing about Nintendo systems is ROM size, so you can have tons of games and not get bored.

Plus, if you have an old android phone with buttons or close volume keys, you can use it as a complete portable GB/A or DS. I remember to have played the heck out of SFA3/Pokemon in an old phone on long trips.

So I would stick to portable handleds and check out ports or exclusives. If you have a modded home console its more of the same but with better graphics and power or more space for ROMS.
