Those are the competition! There's never a good reason to not have alternatives available.

I'm not sure if this is intentional, but your comment comes across as a little disparaging, when individuals are sharing things they've built with passion, often in their spare time.

I'm building a RSS <> Discord syndication tool called [FeedSync](https://feedsync.net).

It's pretty simple to set up and is designed to "just work", set and forget.

Recently, I've been experimenting with an Elixir Lua runtime (https://deflua.com/) to build custom feeds by parsing HTML, which has worked exceedingly well, so hoping to release that soon.

It's an extremely niche product, but has been growing well organically, which is nice for a side project!

I've allegedly been blocked by Cloudflare, despite accessing from an Australian residential IP..

Unless you're geoblocking?

I've noticed a lot of the links don't work, including "Watch demo".

Hard to assess it without seeing a demo, given there's no try-before-you-buy mechanism.

I'm working on FeedSync, which polls RSS feeds and pushes new entries to Discord.

It's built on Phoenix/Elixir and has been pretty rock solid.

Sign up currently requires a card number, but that's something I'm hoping to fix in the next week or so. If you do happen to sign up, I'll set your account to an unlimited free trial ;)

Wow! Surprised to see this on the front page.

I built this about 8 years ago on a whim, and it blew up. Only recently did I learn there was a memory leak, after getting a big traffic spike that caused an OOM.

Over the years it’s burned through several TB of bandwidth per month.

I built ascii.live to support different animations for fun, although I don’t have as much time to review PRs as I’d like.

Do you mean they technically have RSS, but they’re using slightly different fields? E.g. summary instead of description?

I’m using FastRSS[^0] with some lightweight pattern matching to convert them to an internal model. I get error notifications for mismatches, and just push a new pattern match to handle the outlier.

Longer term it could be interesting to get an LLM to write some Lua to parse JIT.

I’ve been building an Elixir app to poll RSS feeds and pipe new entries to Discord.

Performance is rock solid, and it’s almost ready to release, I just need to tweak a few things (like free trial with no CC).

I have a very long to do list, and ultimately want to extend it with “change detection”, e.g. notify when an HTML element on a website changes.

All feedback is welcome

This looks great, it's a shame that you have to go all the way through the payment process to see "Not available in your country (Australia)" though..

You’ll be pleased to find out that PeerTube already has a Docker deployment then!

I’ve been running it in Kubernetes with very few issues.

The documentation is available here: https://docs.joinpeertube.org/install-docker

>I do not think something proprietary like an s3 bucket would be compatible with Peertube, but I have not maintained an instance.

Peertube supports storing videos in S3 compatible object storage: https://docs.joinpeertube.org/admin-remote-storage

It seems odd to me that navigating to the link you submitted redirects me to login with Twitter, giving no compelling reasons to do so?

I suggest having a descriptive homepage and allowing the user to login themselves, rather than forcing them via redirect.

Are they actively sending out invites to people on the waitlist?

I don't. I use Ctrl-C instead.

The US does the same thing, as do many other countries I’m sure.

Oh, I hadn't noticed that difference! In that case it already works the way I suggested.

This is really neat! There's growing number of self-hosters that I'm sure will find this useful.

May I suggest using a separate domain for tunnels, and adding it to the [public suffix list](https://github.com/publicsuffix/list)?

From what I can tell, takingnames.io subdomains are able to access the takingnames.io auth cookie. Having a separate domain would mitigate this.

This looks great, well done on launching!

Reminds me of another project: https://blogsurf.io

Is the intention here to be a curated list of blogs, or an aggregator?

Doesn’t seem like I can sign up in Australia, payment is not accepted..

I’m confused by this comment. Humans were nomadic for thousands of years, you could even say we’re predisposed to it.

Why shouldn’t one feel comfortable in a permanently “rootless” existence?

This is really neat!

While we're on the topic of neat things you can do with `curl`, check out:

  curl parrot.live

This plotter worked for me: http://bl.ocks.org/phil-pedruco/9913243

I'm stuck on 11, it's a real headscratcher..

Hey HN! I made this as a side project, but it blew up a lot more than I thought so I thought I might share it here.

I love Cult of the Party Parrot so I thought I'd try to make my own, but for `curl`!

`parrot.live` just keeps the connection open and pipes down a clear terminal character and then passes through the next frame (with some colour).

When you say it works across Java/JavaScript - could you expand? Can I essentially write Clojure that compiles to JavaScript?

I fail to see when/why this would be required, other than cases where a user forgets the password and doesn't have a back up..

This doesn't surprise me in the least. Businesses will still much rather use trusted hotels than Airbnb hosts.

You can use the promo code LAUNCH for $5 of credit. Server locations look like they're currently limited to Canada.

I think this is really cool but why not use SSH keys instead of passwords?

Thank you for showing us your project, Jacob ! It looks really cool.

I think it would be better to share your code here as the HN community HN won’t be stealing your code!
