hongquan··on Show HN: Email Analytics Meets Machine Learning
This looks great! As a Founder, I probably spend 70-80% of my time on email. Would be nice to see how effective they are.

How long does it take to figure out what I should be doing?

hongquan··on Ask Us Anything: Y Combinator Hardware Companies Crowdfunding
Depends on your development cycle, but this is one area that startups should have an advantage over bigger competitors. We got copied on a few things (logo, tagline, product) by a bunch of people in 3, 6, 9 months time. Of course we're already working on our second model, so no worries!

hongquan··on How to get a city cycling
More cities will have to consider cycling infrastructure if they want to have happy and healthy residents. We're finally seeing changes in major American cities and it's great!
hongquan··on Show HN: Mighty Spring 2.0 - Hire without placement fees
It looks a lot better than when I first saw it, and this "always-on" approach usually gives the best results for the way most job candidates look for work.
hongquan··on Indie.vc
Bryce just replied on Twitter to say it's an OATV thing, so not just him. I wonder how that affects follow-on investment if the company needed it.

I think I'm going to apply. Anyone else?
hongquan··on Onboarding at Percolate
Thanks for writing this up. It amazes me that companies (particularly startups) spend so much to recruit great people and then let them sink or swim. The first 30/60/90 days for a new hire are critical to their short and long term success at your company. More Founders should understand this.
hongquan··on Negotiating Startup Job Offers
Great post that outlines what goes into a job offer negotiation. Each situation is different, so it's good to get a second opinion if you can. This is where recruiters or (gasp!) HR can be helpful, because it's always tough negotiating directly with your future boss/manager.
hongquan··on Elio Motors: $6800 car, 84 mpg
Wonder how this came up today, these guys have been around since 2008, or a year before I started my three wheeler "car" company. I am surprised to see they have one that runs, but the road to production will be long and rough. I'll bet anyone $100 that they won't ship a production version by "Summer of 2014".
hongquan··on Your Startup Is Not The Enemy, It's Your Dance Partner
I like the metaphor, and I'll extend it by saying you want to assemble the best dance crew you can find!
hongquan··on Leap Motion Has Launched
This would have been a great app, instead of just rehashed games.
hongquan··on Inbox Pause - A pause button for incoming mail in Gmail [Chrome extension]
This sounds like a pretty cool product. Just wish I had it when I went on vacation last week.
hongquan··on There is no retirement
Condolences for your loss Diego. I think your post best sums up what I call "life's work". We are lucky when we find it.

And I need to call my Dad.

hongquan··on Ex-Googlers Launch MightyText, An iMessage For Android Users
Such a simple idea, but love how it's done. Surprising that Android doesn't offer this as a standard part of it's OS. Well done MightyText!

Thanks Maryanne!
hongquan··on Paul Buchheit: The future of venture capital and high-tech entrepreneurship
This was such a great talk. The best comment was from the Professor when someone in the audience asked about being a single founder.

Thanks for all the support HN! We're excited to get the app live on the App Store, just have to deal with some paperwork first.

Also, if you are getting a 405 error on signup, you can just email us at coders@coderscoffee.com to be added to the list.

The Zynga thing is an inside joke. :) We are starting in SV, but hope to get enough interest to launch in other areas as well.
hongquan··on Show HN: Hacking recruiting - Coder's Coffee
Not much of a story, we posted it around 3pm and had the top spot for a few hours. It was exhilarating!

There are quite a few proximity apps, but we definitely don't want to be creepy. It should be used by Coders to meet up with Founders or other Coders to talk about their projects and startups. It might be useful to find activities and events, but that's up to you and how you'll use it.

The app works for tea time too. :) Happy to hear people like the concept as much as we do.
hongquan··on Show HN: Hacking recruiting - Coder's Coffee
Love this! The app should be used by Coders who just want to help other Coders too.

Thanks for this Andrew, we've got a lot of work ahead of us.

hongquan··on Show HN: Hacking recruiting - Coder's Coffee
Wowzers, that's a really nice compliment! Thanks!

Sorry, but that job title probably won't fit. ;) We use whatever title you're using on LinkedIn when you login to the app.

We are testing in Silicon Valley only and will hopefully go worldwide. Singapore has a great startup ecosystem that's just taking off!

Python Developers are still in high-demand. Hopefully you'll get paid more than just tears. ;)

The startup ecosystem in Brazil is growing nicely. I would suggest you get some practical experience, working on your own projects or joining some others. Just build stuff, learn as much as possible. Non-technical people just need to do anything/everything else to make the business work.

Hope we can help you find a great startup in the future!
