honeycrispy··on GitHub Incident with Git Operations, Pull Requests and Actions
Funny, yesterday git operations had an unreported outage too. I couldn't pull changes for ~10 minutes.
honeycrispy··on Vibecoding isn't as fun as writing code by hand
> Who says people must enjoy coding?

Nobody. But everyone is saying that I must stop coding by hand or get left behind. I really like understanding what I'm building and creating works of art in code. The sense of accomplishment is gone.

honeycrispy··on Vibecoding isn't as fun as writing code by hand
It sounds like you never enjoyed coding.

If the discussion was "Sitting in a submarine is not as fun as scuba-diving", I would recognize the conversation is not about me, and not jump in and tell all of the recreational scuba-divers they're wrong.

honeycrispy··on How OpenAI Used Its Own LLMs to Design Its Jalapeño Chip
I'm annoyed that the meaning of the word "Agent" has been obliterated.

Like, why couldn't they invent a new word and not hijack an existing word?

honeycrispy··on Show HN: Pelican-bicycle alternatives
> All models are pretty good now at generating these images.

That's pretty generous.

honeycrispy··on Fable 5.1 Solves the Cyphral Distich, a 370-year-old cipher
Thank you.

More money than the GDP 90% of the sovereign countries around the world is hanging in the balance, and people are taking everything OpenAI and Anthropic are saying at face value as if this isn't the financial / marketing equivalent of war, assuming they they wouldn't use every legal and shady tactic, bending every truth available to them to sway the balance of public opinion in their favor. It makes me feel like I'm living in the twilight zone. People need to wake up.

honeycrispy··on AI models don't kill people – people kill people
And just like that, HN became pro-2nd amendment.
honeycrispy··on OpenAI agents carried out an undisclosed attack on RubyGems
An incomprehensible amount of money is at stake in an upcoming IPO.

Traditional companies took out superbowl ads, OpenAI manufactures "scares". It's extremely unethical. But we're facing biblical levels of greed here, OpenAI is still wildly unprofitable, so they will attempt to survive at any cost.

Don't trust the AI companies.

honeycrispy··on Lawmakers added $1 to car insurance policies. That money paid for Flock cameras
It's not just $2k lost here. There's a lot to be said about the immeasurable value of a high-trust society.

As another commenter said: It's incredibly easy to not get shot; don't burglarize someone's home the same way you wouldn't jump in front of a moving train.

honeycrispy··on An all-sky map of half a million supermassive black holes
Nature is a painting, not a pattern.
honeycrispy··on An all-sky map of half a million supermassive black holes
They can watch me flipping them all off for an eternity as I descend into the abyss.
honeycrispy··on Zed DeltaDB
I do not have this issue. (Yes, I am on Linux/Wayland)
honeycrispy··on Hunter-gatherers introduced fish to a mountain lake 7000 years ago
> That is the only possible explanation for how fish could have populated isolated mountain lakes

I hate how much of historical science is performed this way. Speculation is not very scientific.

honeycrispy··on America has become an entrepreneur's paradise
Isn't it strange. We don't, and yet they all still flock here.
honeycrispy··on Minecraft Java raises recommended memory to 16GB ahead of Vulkan transition
I'm fascinated with how that game is almost entirely written in Lua.
honeycrispy··on IRGC claims it destroyed Amazon's Bahrain data center
> The last hour would not come unless the Muslims will fight against the Jews and the Muslims would kill them until the Jews would hide themselves behind a stone or a tree and a stone or a tree would say: Muslim, or the servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me; come and kill him; but the tree Gharqad would not say, for it is the tree of the Jews. Sahih Muslim 2922

When they're surrounded on every side by people who devote their lives to Hadith such as these, I can't blame them. Their enemies set up bases under hospitals, schools. Their wives and children are human shields. I think they're doing pretty well with the situation they've been handed. The situation is more complex than "They're firing on civilian populations", because their enemy fights in civilian clothing, and hides in civilian crowds. They're stuck between a rock and a hard place and are doing what they can to survive.

honeycrispy··on Hyprland 0.55 announced the switch to Lua for its config files
I have to agree. There are things that I want to do with my sway scratchpad that are just not possible because the config vocab is so limited. I might port my config to hyprland and give it a shot.
honeycrispy··on Young adults are poor despite every metric which suggests otherwise
Every time I think I have money I get massive insurance bills, massive property tax bills that increase seemingly every year, a fence I had to install so my kids don't get mangled by the pitbull 2 doors down that was $12k that was $4k 10 years ago. I know because my parents installed the same fence at their house. I'm paying a not insignificant portion of my income into a social security program that I'll never see a dime of. And I'm in my 30's. I can't imagine what kids in their 20's are going through.

When I was a kid I used to think that theives would break through my windows and steal my TV. Now that I'm an adult, I realize I'm being robbed daily through legal channels.

honeycrispy··on The state of open source AI
They also have to pay for staff / model training. Those are not cheap.
honeycrispy··on The state of open source AI
There will be plenty of model providers with prices that undercut Anthropic/OpenAI's prices.
honeycrispy··on CD sales growth outpaced vinyl in the first half of 2026
I built a computer last year and made sure it had a blu-ray drive in it. There are very few cases that have built-in CD bays any more.

honeycrispy··on GPT-5.6 Sol Ultra produces proof of the Cycle Double Cover Conjecture [pdf]
This is one reason why I can't stand hn. Edgelord nihilistic comments that say nothing matters and take everything for granted get up-voted while credible and rational statements about God get down-voted.
honeycrispy··on GPT-5.6 Sol Ultra produces proof of the Cycle Double Cover Conjecture [pdf]
Hopefully. So far it seems to be doing more harm than good.
honeycrispy··on Lost city discovered beneath Egypt's desert with ancient church

honeycrispy··on Lost city discovered beneath Egypt's desert with ancient church
I wish I could go back in time and visit to see what it was like.
honeycrispy··on Madison Sq Garden database tracks hundreds. Labels "LGBTQIA," & low/high "risk."
MSG database stands for "Madison square garden database", not "Message database". I think the title should be updated to avoid confusion.
honeycrispy··on Rewriting Bun in Rust
That can often depend on how you write it.
