It was but after enough backlash they made it opt-in. Though it would be foolish to think they didn't just kept collecting and simply let you access from the timestamp you turned the thing on.
"we're developing software to trade thousandth of cents every nanosecond, so time sensitive we're paying to get our servers physically closer to the exchange one" but supporting unicode in display strings ? Absolutely and terminally impossible. lmao
Very nice, I'll say Continuity can absolutely be implemented fully on Linux though ! I think the thing we'd need very first is an actual communication "backbone" that would span bluetooth,wifi-direct and even mesh networks like Tailscale or smth. Continuity is partly based on AWDL, Apple proprietary implementation of Wifi-Direct to allow high speed local inter device communication and allow things like Sidecar with an iPad. Then we could implement protocols over that backbone to implement actual useful applications.
The user is held hostage as much as the platforms because it's used as "currency" to force other sites to do things they may not want to, i.e. create accounts using private emails, and the platforms are held hostage by these same users expecting to be able to create accounts using their legit or private icloud emails. It looks like some kind of "who will break first", is there a service big enough to be able to block all icloud emails and it'd be a sufficient inconvenience to force apple to rethink how private email works ?
Using icloud.com domain for legit and hidden adresses is such a typical Apple strategy of holding their own users and "others" (ie. other web services, other users etc) hostage simultaneously. But at least here it is actually a good reason that works for the user.
Both of those are actually built-in but very poorly documented (or basically undocumented). Disable keyboard for cleaning : https://apple.stackexchange.com/a/448938 and for the color picker MacOS has "Digital Color Meter.app" preinstalled when its window has the focus hover anywhere on screen and use cmd+shift+c to copy the value (by default it uses RGB but in the View menu you can change it to hexadecimal, the values are then copied as HTML #)
I heard stories from friends where such a system is used to broadcast ads to wide areas in South Korea, never had to deal with it myself but the way they described it made it sound like they were sent using that very same emergency message system.
Because it's one of the actually visible bricks of the modern end of privacy, people are mad about it and there's multiple actions against them but it's all useless as they're here to stay and multiply. There's so many other bricks way worse and insidious, we the people simply can't fight every single brick these people are paid to develop.
Can't wait to see clothes with some thin metal wires knitted with the fabric acting like a Faraday cage or disturbing the signal enough to blur the results
I tried to use Fable on simple local JS/wasm obfuscated files and it refused to work despite multiple tries and different framing. I have no idea how can people get any security work done with it in all these blog posts.
Nope, because we all know about the race to the bottom of all companies and the littlest crack or wiggle room will be used to save a penny and kill people.
It's difficult to explain shortly and I think it's a very local problem to France, but basically: in some regions, local branches of gov mandates bullshit experts to make sure the new wind turbines won't disturb some imaginary natural energy network. They call it "geobiology".
I'm so tired of needing technical workarounds because of human stupidity. Exact same thing as the "age declaration" bullshit we see all over. Dig that trench, bury the cable, put the sand back, end of the story. Here in France we use public money to pay "experts" to ensure building wind turbines won't disturb the "natural energy highways" or some other bullshit before delivering the permit, they may even propose alternative locations for the turbine to disturb less the energies, bunch of lunatics.
All this at the very low cost of: your job.
You can't have an unbreachable blockade 24/7 in front of there, very soon they'd send police to disperse. Fire dept has to justify the failing, if everything up to code and the inspector make it fail it will delay for at most a week and the guy will lose his credibility. The guys delivering and installing the UPS are just trying to make a living too, destroying the thing will get them fired while only delaying a little the time getting another delivered. You are replaceable.
