hkyeti··on My Third Year as a Solo Developer
Love the clarity of the goals and self grading, though I'm wondering what happens when things change part way through the cycle.
hkyeti··on Ask HN: What are your best purchases in 2020?
Treadmill deck, game changer. And a mini instant pot
hkyeti··on Ask HN: Would you work for Facebook?
Leadership and power comes from the top and ultimately Mark will continue to make the decisions in his interest. I'd vote with your conscience over the money. Chances are you'd still end up with a great job eating vastly more than the average citizen
hkyeti··on I wrote a SaaS product because the internet made me believe it'd make me rich
I've spent over 50k over the years on Upwork working a heap of great freelancers. Once you get into it and learn to sift through the legit profiles vs the dodgy it becomes very useful. And it's great to get to work with folks around the world
hkyeti··on Unable to deal with Chrome Extension Team, Kozmos is shutting down
As someone who's Google ad account was mysteriously suspended for no given reason (even before a single ad was run) and am now up to 4 days waiting with no reply nor phone number I can call, I hear you..
hkyeti··on Scott Forstall tells story about Steve Jobs, Microsoft, and a dead fish [video]
If you're of that view then why could you possibly think sending a dead fish to a candidate without checking first is ok in the first place.

And yes when I've taken my candidates for lunch as part of recruiting I always ask for any dietary preferences so i can find a place that accommodates. It's just commonsense.

hkyeti··on Scott Forstall tells story about Steve Jobs, Microsoft, and a dead fish [video]
If you're a hiring manager and can't even be bothered to know the most basic facts about me and that I might not like that piece or pork or salmon for religious or ethical reasons then that about says it all.
hkyeti··on Scott Forstall tells story about Steve Jobs, Microsoft, and a dead fish [video]
Hey good idea, deliberately exclude people who don't eat meat. You know who might end up being CEO level material
hkyeti··on TikTok has recently traded at valuations of $105-110B on private markets
It's mostly a US centric thing though
hkyeti··on Omega-3: Intervention for childhood behavioral problems? (2015)
Yup, go straight to the source (where fish get theirs)
hkyeti··on I Add 3-25 Seconds of Latency to Every Site I Visit
Reddit is full of dark patterns to encourage mobile app installation.
hkyeti··on Climate threats now dominate long-term risks, survey of global leaders finds
Oxford and CSIRO already proved grass fed cattle emit more greenhouse gases then CAFO grain fed, and that's after taking into account sequestration
hkyeti··on What Will Happen in the 2020s
There's a large plant based burger chain here in Australia. Many of their customers aren't even aware they aren't having meat, they just enjoy the taste. I definitely think the plant based prediction is on the money.
hkyeti··on Ask HN: Favorite Nonfiction Books of 2019?
Catch and kill and She said were compelling reads on the scourge of sexual harassment in Hollywood and industry in general.
hkyeti··on Hippie Inc: how the counterculture went corporate
I run a zero profit project. There are folks who are motivated by taking care of others. There are a lot of young people who draw meaning from that, especially in these times where the world has been messed up by greed
hkyeti··on Richard Stallman defies push by 27 GNU Project developers to end his leadership
Decent behaviour respectful and inclusive to all?
hkyeti··on Ask HN: How should I train myself for this new role?
Thanks for the advice and support! Yes, bit scary but enjoying to pick up a new field...
hkyeti··on Ask HN: How should I train myself for this new role?
I've moved to a remote role away from the HQ, so looking for something "self contained" that could be done myself without needing a lot of interaction with the others (like game design I was doing before).

Excited about the challenge but not sure where to start with learning...

I'm going to be responsible for all ad spend and trying to get to ROI positive campaigns

hkyeti··on Ask HN: Plant a Trillion Trees Campaign?
One for example: https://www.wri.org/blog/2018/09/when-tree-falls-it-deforest...

Land is cleared to make room for cattle grazing and for crops used to feed animals.

ie- meat

hkyeti··on Ask HN: Plant a Trillion Trees Campaign?
If we care about trees work on stopping the number one cause of deforestation - meat.
hkyeti··on Antarctic sea ice – rapid decreases, reduced to lowest area in 40 years
Agree about beef becoming an expensive luxury, but Oxford and CSIRO etc scientists have shown that pasture grown animals are worse for climate change. Sequestration doesn't cover their emissions... http://www.ox.ac.uk/news/2017-10-03-grass-fed-beef-good-or-b...
hkyeti··on Antarctic sea ice – rapid decreases, reduced to lowest area in 40 years
Not just politicians. And still citizens do nothing. Meat consumption is rising (one of the best things we can do personally is stop eating meat and dairy). Travel is increasing. Consumption...
hkyeti··on The Race to Become the Beyond Meat of Fish
Plant-meat, one I cold contacted. The second I got an introduction from a mutual friend. Cell-meat I got an introduction to them. Sure, feel free to emial me simon bitesociety.com
hkyeti··on The Race to Become the Beyond Meat of Fish
Am an investor in both cell-cultured meat and plant-based meat. Personally I'm more bullish about plant-based meat, though cell-based is an important plan B
hkyeti··on Carbon dioxide levels in atmosphere hit record high in May
If everyone keeps eating steak and pork at the levels we do, then all the political effort won't be able to make up for it. At the end of the day, our individual actions need to happen or we won't be able to change the trajectory. Globally, meat consumption contributes more than transportation to climate change.
hkyeti··on Questions About Food and Climate Change, Answered
This is disproven by Oxford scientists. Grass fed beef is worse for climate change than CAFO beef. Look it up
hkyeti··on Burger King is rolling out meatless Impossible Whoppers nationwide
Perhaps its a cultural thing, are most of those folks veg who don't like meat from India / South East Asia?

I work in vegan food industry (own company and invested in others) and the market research we've done has always been consistent here that most vegans enjoy eating plant meats (ie- beyond / hungry plannet / impossible / gardein etc). Granted that research has been mostly in Australia and Hong Kong which is where I focus on

hkyeti··on Burger King is rolling out meatless Impossible Whoppers nationwide
The majority of vegans enjoy the meat taste and the new crop of substitutes, just not the ethical/environmental costs. Source- polled my vegan group.
