heyheyhey··on How to read more books
No recommendations to fix that, I usually just look up some lo-fi playlist on Spotify. I actually listen to lots of video game music (i.e. Diablo 4, Final Fantasy, etc.) as well.
heyheyhey··on How to Read More Books
Comparing a podcast to a book is like comparing a 30-minute TV episode to a 3 hour Scorsese movie. Similar mediums with completely different goals.
heyheyhey··on How to Read More Books
I started a habit to read during my lunch/dinner breaks. I wear headphones, put on some lo-fi beats or jazz, and read a chapter or two until I'm done eating.

I really enjoy it and it's a nice reprieve especially at work.

heyheyhey··on Nvidia to shift 2028 chip production to Intel, reshaping TSMC strategy
Title sounds like it's official but article says it's "reportedly"
heyheyhey··on Workday project at Washington University hits $266M
You don't develop it, you develop on it. SN provides the underlying software, implementations, hosting, upgrades, etc. Salesforce is another example of this.
heyheyhey··on Workday project at Washington University hits $266M
> my dashboard page didn't load, then it told me there are no open tickets in the system, then clicking on a different ticket number to open it didn't do anything, and then the server stopped responding.

Like all SaaS in-house implementations, this is entirely on how your company's ServiceNow developers.

I've worked on multiple SNOW implementations and things can go really bad when you go crazy with the customizations.

heyheyhey··on When a stadium adds AI to everything, it's worse experience for everyone
And that wasn't really AI, it was more like automation.

Was hoping the article would be about stadium experiences like the announcer, jumbotron, etc. all being AI-driven. When I judge the experience of gameday, concessions are like third on that list. Disappointed with the content.

heyheyhey··on The health benefits of sunlight may outweigh the risk of skin cancer
> I wish someone would explain the Anglo obsession with daily sunscreen routine.

Because it's more about skincare for physical attraction and less about the cancer. Sun ages your skin with wrinkles, sagging, hyperpigmentation, etc.

This isn't specific to Anglo nations too. Any country where being "fair skinned" is more desirable will have lots of demand for sunscreen.

heyheyhey··on Hollow Knight: Silksong causes server chaos on Xbox, Steam, and Nintendo
The whole point of the game and genre is the exploration. A guide kinda defeats that.

If you don't like the backtracking (I hated it), then the game is probably not for you.

heyheyhey··on U.S. government takes 10% stake in Intel
I think a better rephrasing is "government is giving $8.9B from the CHIPS act in exchange for a 10% stake in the company"
heyheyhey··on Everyone Mark Zuckerberg Has Hired So Far for Meta's 'Superintelligence' Team
Anybody have an idea of how much these people are making?
heyheyhey··on The Offline Club
Well, if it's at a venue, they have to rent it out.
heyheyhey··on Reddit says it won’t overrule mods and force subreddits back open
> users don't seem to care in those subs, it seems.

Have there been any big subreddits that protested, opened and asked the users for feedback, then closed again?

Seems once they asked the users, the users voted to open back up.

heyheyhey··on Reddit’s blackout protest is set to continue indefinitely
r/NBATalk is trying to replace r/NBA (r/NBAdiscussion will probably grow too)

Haven't seen a decent sized one for r/NFL though

heyheyhey··on Hundreds of subreddits plan to go dark indefinitely after Reddit CEO's memo
> I saw a lot of polls with a vast majority voting for the initial blackout but the tone of the response to this indefinite blackout feels way different.

It's selection bias. The average user didn't care or know about the initial blackout. Now that they're affected, they're more likely to vote in these polls.

heyheyhey··on Bay Area woman is on a crusade to prove Yelp reviews can’t be trusted
No review site depending on users is perfect but I've found it's the best option for a quick "what's a good restaurant for x cuisine" in America.

I've found Google Maps or Tripadvisor to be too hit-or-miss especially when traveling abroad where Yelp isn't as prevalent.

heyheyhey··on The Deliberate Practice Guide (2021)
> The argument would only apply to star soccer players.

What do you mean by star players? If you're talking Big Five + MLS players, then you pretty much either need to be an academy or high level club (ECNL in USA for example) at a young age to have a chance.

Iniesta was part of La Masia, the youth academy for FC Barcelona. Messi/CR7 both played for the youth clubs of professional teams.

heyheyhey··on If you want people to show up, data shows these are the best meeting times
One thing I love is Outlook's function of starting meetings at :05 or :10: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/office/end-meetings-earl...

That quick break has made a huge difference.

heyheyhey··on Apollo’s Christian Selig explains his fight with Reddit – and why users revolted
> Some subs held polls, and in every one that I saw, the strike was quite broadly popular.

These polls have an insane selection bias though. The ones who feel strongly for the issue will be the ones commenting and voting.

It's why stickies/sidebars/etc. rarely work because most of the users simply don't care enough to view them.

heyheyhey··on Attractive People Have a Big Advantage in the Job Interview
As they say, the 3 biggest advantages one can have in life are money, power and attractiveness.
heyheyhey··on UC Berkeley student who commuted from L.A. will graduate May 19
Not the same person.

HN article says degree was in sociology and the person is in his 50s.

Reddit OP says he did ME and is in his 20s.

heyheyhey··on Discord’s username change is causing discord
Funny thing with Starcraft 2 is since you can have duplicate user names, all the top players would ladder with a ||||||| user name to prevent the other player from knowing who they are and what they would do.
heyheyhey··on YouTube TV raises subscription to $72.99, inching closer to cable pricing
Agreed.

I've been streaming sports illegally almost 20 years now. I'm fine dealing with the ad-infested websites and constant refreshing of streams taken down for once a month events like UFC fights.

But for every day? I'll gladly pay the $1-2 a day to never deal with that.

heyheyhey··on The AI Seinfeld Show 'Nothing, Forever' Is Back on Twitch
I'm guessing officially saying it's not a Seinfeld parody due to C&D would've destroyed viewership so they do these changes without hoping anyone would notice.

I watched it every now and then but with everyone saying it's completely different, I have no interest.

heyheyhey··on The AI Seinfeld Show 'Nothing, Forever' Is Back on Twitch
I don't get why they can't talk about it. Do C&Ds come with a NDA too?
heyheyhey··on Sexual loneliness: A neglected public health problem?
My guess is ethnic male of average height.

Attractive in his native country where his ethnicity isn't a factor and the average height is much lower.

heyheyhey··on Ask HN: What sub $200 product improved your 2022
I put aluminum foil in between the grate and the tray. Makes cleaning much easier since you only need to clean the grate, which is dishwasher-safe.

Some think it affects the air fryer cooking but I haven't noticed a difference.

heyheyhey··on Apple contractor fired after her day-in-the-life TikTok video went viral
Misleading headline.

Her contract wasn't renewed and it wasn't specified if it was due to the TikTok video.

> In May, Boone unexpectedly lost her job at Apple when her contract wasn’t renewed.

heyheyhey··on Fake Men on Hinge
Hinge has a weird bucketing technique where it'll show you 30 straight unattractive profiles one day then 30 straight mega-attractive profiles the next day. No idea why they do that.
heyheyhey··on Rockstar Games confirms they were hacked by an outside party
> Looking by analogy at big Hollywood movies, movie studios often release their own "behind the scenes" video clips

More apt analogy would be a workprint of a movie being leaked. This happened with "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" where lots of the special effects were still in progress so the workprint looked really cheap in some parts.

But the people likely to watch a workprint and then form their opinion on that is incredibly small.
