hellopat··on Corsair Gaming S-1
I just wish they'd use better switches in their mice. I'm on my second one, and they suffer from a widespread double click issue. It's an excellent gaming mouse otherwise.
hellopat··on Microsoft Analyzed Data on Its Newly Remote Workforce
My total commute was ~3 hours a day. My quality of life has drastically improved since the quarantine started as well.
hellopat··on Spotify to Apple: Time to Play Fair
Is Netflix next? March 25th is right around the corner...
hellopat··on Avoiding Startup Tarpits
One thing I don't really have much experience in doing is measuring growth. Is this something you have to figure out before avoiding the tarpits?
hellopat··on I'm a creep. I'm sorry
I find that he mentions the situation occurred "over drinks" a way to make it seem less innappropriate. It's pretty simple, don't hit on women you have a business relationship with. I've seen it happen on multiple occasions and I cringe every time.
hellopat··on A man wouldn’t leave an overbooked United flight, so he was dragged off
Does this mean they can still bump people off the flight at-will even though he already boarded the flight?
hellopat··on The clock is ticking for Spotify
I have absolutely no issues with the mobile or desktop versions of the app.
hellopat··on I Am Retiring at 32. Should’ve Done It Years Ago
The guy isn't selling anything. No links to a book or newsletter. It's just a personal blog. A scam, really?
hellopat··on Tower 2
Thanks, I didn't realize this. I'll give it another whirl.
hellopat··on Tower 2
I bought Tower before I found out about Sourcetree, and while I enjoyed using it, I found that Soucetree was way more feature rich. Can anyone give me a reason why I should fork over even more dough for an app that I'm not even sure I'd end up using?
hellopat··on Our Sales Process at Lob
Perhaps allow a potential customer to print a single document and have it sent to their own / business address? Something that takes no more than 2 minutes of the customer's time. I think that would be very appealing to people who'd use a service like this but are skeptical.
hellopat··on How I Work Around The require(“../../../../../../../”) Problem In NodeJS
I made a module to solve this issue a while back.

hellopat··on Show HN: Watson – inline issue manager with GitHub support
This is cool. I built something similar to this in Node. You start the tool and it monitors all files in your project folder for changes. Every time you save, it outputs a JSON object of all your tokened comments. The idea was to be able to plug it into another service, like a custom todo list app, or something like this. I haven't quite finished it, but maybe I'll clean it up a bit and push it to github this weekend.
hellopat··on An Attempt To Use Browserify
Thanks for the offer!

My main concern is non-CommonJS libraries. I haven't really had any luck with any of the Browserify shim modules out there. Any jQuery plugin that I've used with Browserify I ended up modifying myself to support CommonJS. Even then, I'm not sure I was doing it right.

Any insight?

hellopat··on An Attempt To Use Browserify
The title is a bit misleading. Only a small part of the article mentions Browserify. I was hoping for the authors take on the struggles and efficiencies, as I'm at the point where I need to make the decision to use Browserify for my companies client heavy apps.
hellopat··on Soylent: Manufacturing Update
It takes time to prepare, including calculating all the supplemental nutrients. I think he's looking for an instant solution.
hellopat··on Show HN: Meals/Feels - Log your meals and feels to spot food allergies
I'll use this. I have severe acid reflux and this might actually help me fix my diet.
hellopat··on FlameStower - USB charger powered by fire
I've been having an internal struggle regarding the purchase of a BioLite stove. The primary reason I haven't is because of it's weight. As a backpacker, the stove is just way too heavy to carry on a trip (weekend trips, fine - but anything longer it would have to stay behind).

The FlameStower seems much more practical for longer trips because of it's weight / bulk.

hellopat··on Introducing Trello Gold
I completely agree. Additional (unlimited?) labels would be a serious upgrade to Trello. It's a tool to help people get shit done - which it's very good at - but adding useless features like custom emojis don't assist in the core function.
hellopat··on Ember.js 1.0 Released
Good work Tom, Yehuda, and team. I had very difficult time recommending Ember during the transition phase (mostly because the router was impossibly difficult to understand). I wanted to like it so bad, and now I finally think I can. I'm going to reboot the project I was working on and give Ember 1.0 a shot.
hellopat··on A List of Useful Backend Architectures
While these aren't so much architectures as they are a list of tools, it's fascinating to see which ones successful companies are using.

I like that Trello has such a short list and still runs incredibly fast with a high number of users.

hellopat··on OpenCV Face Detection For Cropping Faces
I used a provided XML file. The library I used: https://github.com/peterbraden/node-opencv

I haven't touched the app in about a month, updated the library to the most recent version, and I'm now getting a 100% hit rate. I guess the library was a bit buggy.

Also, these headshots are the ones the players take before the season starts, not action shots. In theory there should be a high hit rate.

hellopat··on OpenCV Face Detection For Cropping Faces
I built something like this to automate cropping headshots for players in major sports. I figured it would work flawlessly after I ran a few test images through, but it turns out that it failed detecting a face or gave the wrong coordinates about 20% of the time.

I'm curious to know what the success rate of SeatGeek's process is.

hellopat··on Letter To Jennifer Allen Regarding False And Defamatory Statements
It's already happening.
hellopat··on Luma updates its video camera app for iOS, adding cinematic image stabilization
Very very cool stuff. I downloaded the app and took this (not the ideal stress test, but the panning is incredibly smooth): http://luma.io/v/CId
hellopat··on Hello Firefox, this is Chrome calling
I haven't really been keeping up on WebRTC, so forgive this fairly ignorant question.

Will the framework allow me to create a one to many connection? ie. presentation mode where one person could broadcast their audio / video to many viewers? Or is it simple a 1:1 connection?

hellopat··on Why We Still Believe in Working Remotely
"Pain" is a very good teacher. It slaps you in the face and tells you're an idiot.

I love this sentence.

hellopat··on Treadmill desks: How practical are they?
I used a standing desk for about 6 months, one with comfort matting. I didn't notice a difference. I also think standing desks don't offer any health benefits over sitting. I can state my reasons why if there is any interest.
hellopat··on We Work in Philly – Startup Map
Philly is slowly becoming a vibrant tech hub. Props to all who organize events in the area and create things like this!
hellopat··on Rant: Backbone, Angular, Meteor, Derby
They just recently updated the guide. I haven't read through the whole thing, but it looks much more organized. Also there is a new Router API which is apparently significantly more intuitive.
