hacknews20··on FDA authorizes first wearable device that monitors ketone and blood sugar levels
Understanding why children's pancreases stop delivering insulin in the first place, which remains one of the big medical mysteries, would be a huge breakthrough for preventative medicine.
hacknews20··on The QNX Operating System
The blackberry QNX implementation on their Tablet was rock solid, I had high hopes. That was the last time i knowingly used QNX.
hacknews20··on AniSora: Open-source anime video generation model
Failed for me with erroneous error every time with different accounts and different inputs.
hacknews20··on Are electric cars that much cheaper to operate?
I went back to diesel and can say for certain the EV was more expensive to operate and buy (at least in the UK) than my new diesel pickup.
hacknews20··on CTO / cofounder exit deal after 1.5y at 600k revenue without SHA
Take the 60k and the 1% undilutable “founder’s shares” and move on, it will be much better for your soul and the faster you do this deal and move on, the faster you start something else with all the new expertise and learnings.
hacknews20··on QNX is now free for anything non-commercial, plus there's an RPi image
Great. Long over due, maybe too late.
hacknews20··on Slack wants to become the 'long-term memory' for organizations
Ironic headline when the free version stops you seeing messages after a short time.
hacknews20··on IBM to buy HashiCorp in $6.4B deal
Oh dear! Any buyer but them!
hacknews20··on App scans your pile of Lego and uses ML to suggest projects
This is a great app and inspires our kids to use the lego more. It also, like any manual, does not need to be followed exactly. It really is a great use of computer vision and I personally have used lego more since we got this app.
hacknews20··on Apple to wind down electric car effort after decadelong odyssey
This reminds me of when Cisco did Public Cloud.
hacknews20··on Faster: Fast persistent recoverable log and key-value store
What! Nonsense.
hacknews20··on Why the serverless revolution has stalled (2020)
We cut one system’s cloud bill by two thirds by moving to virtual private servers. The amount of time/effort serverless and other x-as-a-services were saving in maintenance was not worth the cost and other constraints they caused.
hacknews20··on British EV maker, once valued at $13B, has gone into bankruptcy
What on earth - how did you make this about Brexit when the whole EV market is in trouble, and you made it about Brexit. Wow.
hacknews20··on I'm skeptical of low-code
I have been a proponent of no-code low-code and in the last year or so your second point has been the biggest problem we encountered on projects “…developer talent is tiny.” The talent is now more expensive than code developers. However, the net benefit for most web apps is still there, that once you established the “platform” i.e main aspects of your “thing” the low maintenance burden starts paying big dividends. With rapid prototyping we do traditional dev, then transition web apps to no-code because the burden is in the through life aspects and no-code wins there.
hacknews20··on EU Cyber Resilience Act: What does it mean for open source?
Yes an improvement but that’s not hard to improve on terrible. This is more wasted money, time and effort from the EU. The same people that made internet browsing miserable with cookie blah and the same people that don’t understand data or AI but will bring our garbage regulation about that too. Huge sigh!
hacknews20··on Stirling-PDF: local web application to perform various operations on PDFs
So negative, just unbalanced and so negative.
hacknews20··on All our patent are belong to you (2014)
Ha! Love this post.
hacknews20··on Redis Insight: GUI App for Redis
Why was this even posted, it’s been around for years and barely changed. Does not make it bad, but what’s the answer to “so what?”
hacknews20··on Atlassian Acquires Loom
I hope they don't take this private or make it an Atlassian bundle only thing, as Loom is excellent.
hacknews20··on Atlassian Acquires Loom
Wow - you are wrong.
hacknews20··on Women now dominate the book business. Why not other creative industries?
Why would/does anyone want a specific gender to dominate anything, why instead wouldn’t you want it to be dominated by whoever is the best-fit people/persons in the world at the time? ‘Dominated’, oh dear, aggressive language creeping In again to media description. Shock.
hacknews20··on I Listened to 1000 B2B SaaS Sales Calls
Another “I did x so you don’t have to” post.
hacknews20··on Deployment and infrastructure for a bootstrapped webapp with 150k monthly visits

hacknews20··on Elon Musk’s Friendship with Sergey Brin Ruptured by Alleged Affair
Getting someone pregnant doesn’t take time, but building enduring relationships does.
hacknews20··on Raspberry Pi Pico W: your $6 IoT platform
Awesome innovation and regardless of what is open and what is proprietary the key is that it is a platform enabling thousands of others, price point and accessibility is creating conditions for product market fit.
hacknews20··on US Cybersecurity Agency: 16 states have vulnerable voting machines
Remember- all things are vulnerable, the key to comparing actual to potential is whether the vulnerability is exploitable. E.g a machine with Win XP is vulnerable to n-Number of exploits but not if it’s turned off and disconnected. So, is it vulnerable and to what extent are those vulnerabilities exploitable.
hacknews20··on Rethinking Visual Programming with Go
Programmers so often “dis” no code and VPL. NoCode is the quiet revolution in software development and broadens access which is a great thing. It doesn’t threaten programmers but they often think it does. I remember many trends which expanded IT industry but many involved thought it would shrink their segment. Almost all tech trends have been additive, very few have resulted in another tech being made redundant. Any new VPL solution should be aimed at bringing non programmers into the industry so that programmers can over time concentrate on things which are not best-fit for VPL/no-code.
hacknews20··on A case study in early-stage startup execution
This: “A manager can never ask an engineer to “work harder” or “work faster”, they can only reorder her priority list.”
hacknews20··on I built a receipt printer for GitHub issues
Cool! Side note, did you know a lot if these receipts contain PBA? In an experiment it was proved that people who handle many receipts, like Cashiers at tills, with PBA in them have much higher levels in their blood.
