gurumeditations··on Citigroup Plans to Cut 20k Jobs
Any place where jobs are, house prices went up 50-100% or more since pre COVID.
gurumeditations··on Sam Altman appears at OpenAI offices as pressure grows to reinstate him
It’s private relay for me.
gurumeditations··on Drugmakers are set to pay 23andMe to access consumer DNA
A lot of places already decide gay people shouldn’t have kids. This is in democracies. Gene scenarios not needed. Only straight supremacy.
gurumeditations··on Google can turn ANC earbuds into a heart rate monitor with no extra hardware
It will enable a greater genocide of gay people across the world.
gurumeditations··on We are beginning to roll out new voice and image capabilities in ChatGPT
From playing around with ChatGPT and LLama2, this is most likely because it ingested that poem and regurgitated it to you based on the context of your conversation. GPT is smart and creative but it will only give you what it’s ingested. When experimenting with story ideas for a popular IP, it gave me specific names and scenarios which I would then Google to see that they were written already, and it was just restating them to me based on the context of our conversation as if it were an original idea. These things are more tools than thinkers.
gurumeditations··on UK's infrastructure is too expensive: Railways, Trams, and Roads all cost more
It’s funny though, how productivity massively goes up per capita yet pay doesn’t really change much and despite each person today being the equivalent of many multiple people from yesterday, capitalists complain about how they can’t find enough affordable labor in a system known for its profit gouging and corruption. Something’s not right here…
gurumeditations··on Plans develop for high-speed rail in the PNW
Only useful HSR is maglev like SC line in Japan. HSR is such a boondoggle it’s not worth it anyways.
gurumeditations··on Google doesn’t want employees working remotely anymore
Hopefully real estate prices will go down now that rich tech workers have to move back to the tech centers.
gurumeditations··on Pixar reportedly conducts rare layoffs
Which of course brings up the whole process of eradicating homophobic hatred from straight society, which is accomplished by including these tiny things here and there so there is no questions or confusion; there just ‘is’, like with straight intimacy which is overwhelming and everywhere at all times.
gurumeditations··on Ex-Apple VP Mike Abbott Joins General Motors as Exec Vice President, Software
I frequently find myself picking up my phone in motion because their dial knob is utterly useless with navigating the music app and maps often as well.
gurumeditations··on Half of vinyl buyers in the U.S. don’t have a record player: study
Vinyl albums are great art pieces. Terrible and expensive to try to listen to but the cover art looks great on a wall or shelf.
gurumeditations··on GM plans to phase out Apple CarPlay in EVs, with Google's help
Data collection and subscription charging…
gurumeditations··on Maybe treating housing as an investment was a mistake
They’re talking about how it is ridiculous that nothing but pure luck and circumstance of a screwed up housing market/system means they ended up with a sweet deal with affordable quality housing while their friend is forced to deal with living in a closet for much higher prices despite working hard.
gurumeditations··on Rise of ‘zombie’ VCs as startup valuations plunge
I wonder if anyone has insight into Tilt5 with Jerry Ellsworth. I hear complaints that they can’t raise constantly despite being a healthy profitable business.
gurumeditations··on AI Generated Seinfeld banned on Twitch for transphobic jokes
“Transgender is mental illness”

“All liberals are gay (bad)”

Yes… nobody is offended by this kind of vile hate speech. Right. Maybe it’s just you who thinks that. Not possibly queer and and trans people and their family and friends could take offense.

gurumeditations··on Holographic Glasses for Virtual Reality
What is it about the size of the display that limits the FOV?
gurumeditations··on Twitter asks some laid off workers to come back
Is the job market hot enough for them to refuse to come back?
gurumeditations··on Stripe laying off around 14% of workforce
That is so willingly naive. A culture that allows something which grants an advantage eventually requires you do that thing by implicit force. Don’t fool yourself. This is 101 stuff and anyone who doesn’t understand this concept shouldn’t be in charge, because it doesn’t just lead to overwork but also to more pernicious evil things, see MeToo and others.
gurumeditations··on Apple unveils redesigned iPad
A $120 price increase for the base model? Unbelievable. Couldn’t keep the 5 year old $330 price forever but that’s ridiculous at the volumes Apple moves. All while we’re going into recession and consumer tech spend goes down…
gurumeditations··on The Cancellation of ‘Jihad Rehab’
That’s ridiculous. I hope you experience the other side of the coin, where you are contrary to social harmony, perhaps because of your race, romance, gender, class, etc. Just because evil is widespread doesn’t normalize it and make it ok. There are even lots of protests in China, but the dictatorships have always limited their spread, more so today.
gurumeditations··on Someday aliens will land and all will be fine until we explain our calendar
Biblical books are biased to assert Jesus existed as they describe him. There are no neutral historical records to prove he specifically existed. Besides, your “historical documents” contain competing narratives of events with each other, supernatural magic, and exist as part of a handpicked religious narrative that left other books out at that.
gurumeditations··on Lensless camera creates 3D images from single exposure
Lytro?
gurumeditations··on California passes law requiring companies to reveal pay by race, gender
Why not other metrics? For example why exclude LGBT people despite centuries of oppression and extermination in every aspect of life at all levels of society, continuing as we speak?

Probably because overwhelmingly straight people made this law. But only certain biases get special treatment. This is a problem with these kinds of rules privileging certain groups in the name of equality. Inevitably other groups who deserve ‘reparation’ will ask, why not me too?

gurumeditations··on Lenovo’s Glasses T1 let you bring a private big screen display with you
I’m referring to TikTok and Netflix etc where you can stream video content on transparent normal everyday glasses as easily as popping in your AirPods for music now, or a virtual shared display in 3D space so you retain 100% of the social sharing factor.
gurumeditations··on Lenovo’s Glasses T1 let you bring a private big screen display with you
Streaming video will be a killer app of AR. Such a basic thing though is a huge challenge so far. There isn’t even a good AR display yet let alone everything else.
gurumeditations··on A self-trained Italian blacksmith built himself an amusement park
I just want to know how he deals with the safety design and legal liability aspect.
gurumeditations··on Singapore will decriminalize sex between men, prime minister says
“Gay sex” bans being essentially bans on gay love, because sex is a crucial part of any loving relationship. Two people in love have sex. Criminalize the sex, make a romantic relationship difficult enough to be impossible. Erase gay people from existence. Standard straight homophobia playbook.
gurumeditations··on Milwaukee Tool Raises the Bar with New USA Factory
Just like climate change, allowing capitalists to invest in foreign countries to build their infrastructure, industries, and workforce all so you can then sell the end product in a fat market like the US for high profit, is fundamentally a political issue. Something that hurts us all long term but is so beneficial in many other ways to us at the same time, and makes lots of capitalists fabulously wealthy.

It’s too late to tear down the current reality because there is no political will to build a new one. Perhaps giving away the long term professional knowledge core of the US to foreign countries so that capitalists could become richer and laborers could have cheaper goods will be what historians point to as the root cause of the decline of the American empire.

gurumeditations··on Milwaukee Tool Raises the Bar with New USA Factory
American manufacturing looks like low-wage workers making $12 an hour (a few years ago) making windshields. A real American manufacturing renaissance would be German, with high skilled trained professionals designing, building, and operating advanced machines to create complex products. Basically what the Chinese are continually getting better at.

There is no hope. America can’t even agree on giving community college to poor kids, let alone training a generation of toolmakers, electronic engineers, programmers, and every other profession involved in making things out of atoms more complex than a handtool or a radiator. This country is dying and wildly unstable politically.

gurumeditations··on “Logistics”, an 857-hour movie, tracks a pedometer from shop back to factory
So much fluff I couldn’t finish it.
