gtt··on Ask HN: How do you manage your manager?
>>Many managers will just keeping adding more and more responsibilities to their 'best' workers until they either start saying "no", quit or burn out, often without any malice or ill intent.

I consider such people total failure as managers and try to avoid.

gtt··on Show HN: Fo: An experimental language which adds generics on top of Go
I liked certain aspects of Go, but lack of generics was a deal-breaker for me. You approached it a way better than I (and many others) did. Instead of arguing on forums you started writing code.
gtt··on Buffett Proposed $3 Billion Uber Investment But Deal Crumbled
But. in such scenario, how can Buffet profit from under-performing Uber?
gtt··on Buffett Proposed $3 Billion Uber Investment But Deal Crumbled
Could someone explain what got Buffet interested in Uber?
gtt··on Bitcoin estimated to use 0.5% of the world's electric energy by end of 2018
It will be removal of competition for their fiat disguised as environmental concern.
gtt··on Taskwarrior, where have you been all my life?
Awesome. Could someone recommend note-taking tool with the same spirit?
gtt··on Ask HN: Why does everyone use a MacBook Pro despite saying they suck?
YMMV, but I configured i3, vim and some other stuff years ago and just copy configs from previous laptop to the next one. New laptop usually works just of the box and it is already configured the way I'm used to.
gtt··on Ask HN: Why does everyone use a MacBook Pro despite saying they suck?
Company where I work decided it is simpler to buy macbooks for everyone than handle each request separately.

Would never buy it with my own money, but it kind of works although I still could not get macvim to read my font settings from .vimrc

gtt··on How to Fall Asleep in Two Minutes or Less
and Michel Houellebecq seems to use similar process:

INTERVIEWER

What is your writing schedule now?

HOUELLEBECQ

I wake up during the night around one a.m. I write half-awake in a semi-conscious state. Progressively, as I drink coffee, I become more conscious. And I write until I’m sick of it.

gtt··on 6.4 Earthquake hits Taiwan
Is it going to affect hardware prices?
gtt··on One Bitcoin miner is buying 20,000 16nm wafers from TSMC per month
Nothing more useful for humanity, I think. It is literally mining electronic gold which facilitates transactions removing need for trusted third party. You may not ever pay for something "useful" in your life in bitcoin, like you've probably never paid with gold, which is still useful for governments and big investors as store of value.
gtt··on Teenagers now better behaved and less hedonistic but lonelier and more isolated
I don't think drinking less and doing less drugs makes you more depressed, stressed, sexless and lonely. I think the reverse is true with possible exception of loneliness, but you are better off without the type of company booze and drugs provide.
gtt··on Inadequate Equilibria by Eleizer Yudkowsky
Look at how do they react to jokes. My observation is that all those destructive cult-like organization cannot laugh at themselves.
gtt··on Show HN: Ask X anything – AMA shouldn't be a one time thing
And there is also a curiouscat.me I wonder, is market that big for such number of clones?
gtt··on Bitcoin: I am a time-traveler from the future, here to beg you to stop (2013)
Actually, I prefer 15 minutes trips, so https://hckrnews.com/
gtt··on [dead]

gtt··on Crystal in Production: Diploid
On a related note, how well Crystal is suited for number-crunching?
gtt··on Many junior scientists need to take a hard look at their job prospects
I don't think slacking in science is a bad thing. Less papers means less noise and if people are not sufficiently motivated by their ideas themselves may be it is best for everyone they are not publishing.
gtt··on Give researchers a lifetime word limit
More research is needed.
gtt··on Vladimir Voevodsky has died
I'm getting access denied on this entry. Could you copy-pase it somewhere else?
gtt··on Choose boring employees
Sadly, usually boring is just boring.
gtt··on A tall chimney to facilitate heat exchange in the atmosphere
Yes, it does, the problem is, the basic setup isn't converging to solution so nothing to plot, which is unusual and probably means I choose wrong boundary conditions or something.
gtt··on A tall chimney to facilitate heat exchange in the atmosphere
I've tried to simulate 1km chimney in Comsol, but I cannot make it converge to a solution. If anyone is interested, the model is here https://mega.nz/#!jFgBxI6J!jdxloYFwcuk_YyGcIMlOmJTKcPbxyD2B4... (may be I'm doing something wrong with simulation parameters, help would be very much appreciated!)
gtt··on Status update from the Reproducible Builds project
How do they achieve reproducibility with python and some other languages which include timestamps and such?
gtt··on France to end sales of new petrol and diesel vehicles by 2040
I admit I don't know much about economy, but how do we identify market failures? Do we have better information processing process than the market? This is honest question, not trying to nitpick or something.
gtt··on Clojure Linear Algebra Refresher: 1 – Vector Spaces
The mistake is in the almost first sentence:

Eigenvalues aren't defined for rectangular matrices!

gtt··on Killing C.I.A. Informants, China Crippled U.S. Spying Operations
I think, individuality is a cornerstone of realpolitik. Remove it and you will have unified human hive. Does it worth it?
gtt··on Audrey – A smart personal assistant app that helps you to get things done
On a slightly related note, I, personally, noticed that I don't want to get things done. Most of the things, at least. After working GTD style I feel happier and more productive, but usually not closer to my goals. I found, that failing do to most of the things is bearable, as long as I'm keep doing things that matter.

I'm still using GTD stuff, but just to "better forget", to unload working memory.

gtt··on Kotlin 1.1.2 is Out
Still, far better than politics, in my opinion.
gtt··on Practical RL – A course in reinforcement learning in the wild
On a related note, I wonder how much did RL change things like day-trading?
