Thinkpad keyboards are great (I own a couple T400’s and used to daily drive a X61s), but the latest MacBook Pros have real, actually good keyboards afaik too.
gsora··on Twilight: A Differentially Private Payment Channel Network
A TEE isn’t necessarily tied to any specific vendor, it’s a design scheme implemented by many different vendors in different ways. What you’re referring to is Intel SGX. There are open-source TEE implementations for e.g. ARM like OP-TEE.

Well if you want to do that, I’m sure they’ll appreciate your inputs. I would if I could.

I’m sure this new influx of users will bring many UX designers into the space, and the improvements will be tangible.

Mastodon is a community effort, and as such members of the community will work on stuff like UX. I’m not saying that you’re wrong, but rather contribute back instead of slamming a (very advanced and usable) project down just because your registration experience was bad.

This is open source, not a company with billions to spend on UX: they do what they can.

Damn, i3wm is a browser now!
gsora··on Ask HN: Who wants to be hired? (October 2022)
I am already living close to the great North.
gsora··on Ask HN: Who wants to be hired? (October 2022)
Location: Italy Remote: Yes Willing to relocate: No Technologies: Go, beginner Rust, backend development, distributed ledgers, Linux Résumé/CV: https://noskills.club/cv.pdf GitHub: https://github.com/gsora Email: gsora (at) disroot (dot org)

5 years of working experience, bachelor's degree in computer science, currently learning Rust by contributing to open-source projects.

I'm looking to move out of blockchain/distributed ledgers core software ecosystem, I'd like to expand my horizons and build something else.

Services around it are fine, but please no NFT or DeFi.

gsora··on Bitwarden: Avoid at all costs (outage issue)
Hosting a Vaultwarden instance on one of the free Oracle ARM VMs is a great alternative to their hosted service.

You own your data, get great UX thanks to their mobile clients/extensions.

Or… grab a Precursor[0] and import your bitwarden JSON export into its vault app :-)

gsora··on New AirPods Pro Do Not Support Lossless Apple Music
Who cares? Don’t expect high quality audio from consumer products.

Get a pair of good wired in-ear monitors or full blown headphones if you want/need high resolution audio.

AirPods = convenience, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it.

gsora··on FLAC – Format overview
It’s the best layman resource out there IMO, also the fact that you might get a chance to get into RED… nothing wrong in that :-)
gsora··on FLAC – Format overview
You can read the spectrogram.

https://interviewfor.red has lots of info about that exact thing, because in some uh… very peculiar communities, sharing a lossy file passed as a lossless file is a serious offense.

gsora··on ORoaming: Why haven't any other smartphone manufacturers built this yet?
I‘m staying in a remote Italian region, mobile internet is almost nonexistent because antennas overbooking or something similar. I bought a data-only eSIM from Airalo, that is able to connect to 3 (!!) different carriers, one of which works extremely well around here. It’s not cheap - 16€/10GB - but the convenience is top notch. There are many data-only eSIM global providers out there, you just have to search for them with the right keywords. I believe those services are mainly aimed at digital nomads.
gsora··on Ask HN: Which Linux terminal emulator do you prefer and why?
WezTerm! Minimal, fast, cross platform-first approach, easy to configure.

I use it on macOS and Linux with essentially the same configuration file, no issue at all.

And the maintainer is a cool human being, which is always a plus.

gsora··on Ask HN: How are you using your Raspberry Pi?
I am lucky enough to have four Pi's, although only three of them are actively used:

- a Pi 4 8GB which runs Home Assistant along with Zigbee bridge, and PiHole - a Pi 4 4GB used to debug/flash my Precursor[1] - a Pi 3A+ currently in search of a use-case, after being used for a university research project - a Pi Zero 2WH for Pwnagotchi :-)

I was able to snatch the Pi 4 4GB and the Zero 2WH at very good prices by connecting the excellent RPILocator[2] to IFTTT (not sponsored :-)

gsora··on Ask HN: How do you read HN?
I should've been more specific: reading papers/books/long-form articles isn't ergonomic for me.
