gsibble··on You Need to Pay Your Engineers
I've found this is the only way to get things done.

I sometimes make a 2 hour task look like it took me all week, and my boss is still impressed.

gsibble··on You Need to Pay Your Engineers
Personally I find it infuriating.
gsibble··on You Need to Pay Your Engineers
Not when they give you a deadline and tell you your job depends on making it.

Because he has none.

Here here.

That was a narrow 5-4 ruling. One overturned ruling hardly means this case has no merit. Do you have any counter-arguments to his 155 page ruling?

And he was confirmed by the Senate 98-0.

gsibble··on Federal Judge Blocks White House from Communicating with Social Media Companies
What is? His ruling? The government has no free speech.

Got an example?

I don't think you can downplay how huge the scale of this was. It's a 155 page ruling destroying the federal government's actions.

Pretty strong working and decision.
gsibble··on Apple Vision Pro – Why It May Be Lousy for Watching Movies on a Plane
When will people realize this is just a v0.1 product? It'll still produce something new and exhilarating. Shitting on new technology is a horrible new trend.
gsibble··on [dead]
I don't really write my stuff with the intention of getting people to agree with me. I write it to get people to challenge assumptions, like why is a submarine the biggest news in the world and now the WSJ's article about how American cities are doomed, which to me is a much more important story and will significantly impact people much more than.........a missing submarine.

I'm glad you enjoy my blunt style. Cheers.

gsibble··on [dead]
Thousands of other people's lives are in danger every day yet they aren't in the news. It always fascinates me how easily people are distracted by stuff that is meaningless and doesn't affect them.
gsibble··on Compared to Other Skilled Work – Engineers Are Dramatically Underpaid
That's a very interesting read. Oddly as an engineer-turned-CEO, I am my engineers' sheep dog.
gsibble··on Compared to Other Skilled Work – Engineers Are Dramatically Underpaid
There's some great book I forgot the name of that goes into detail about how all of the world is run by extroverts due to human nature.

Also, I never look at engineers as a cost center. They are a profit center. Fight me.

gsibble··on Compared to Other Skilled Work – Engineers Are Dramatically Underpaid
I did for a long time as well and agree it's really the only way to get ahead.
gsibble··on Apple Vision Pro – Potential hardware issues
Seriously.
gsibble··on Apple Vision Pro – Potential hardware issues
Yes, let's talk about a whole bunch of POTENTIAL shortcomings of a V1 product that is LIGHT YEARS ahead of the competition.

This is why I tell everyone in my company not to complain about something unless they have a better solution.

Does this guy offer any solutions or present better products? No. That's because with current technology, this is the best we can do.

What a jerk.

gsibble··on San Francisco is in trouble, battered by remote work and the homeless crisis
I think that makes him the authority to talk.
gsibble··on It's companies' fault we don't want to return to the office
Woah. Author here. Had no idea this blew up. Thanks for all the support!

My primary point was over open offices and how disrespected engineers are as knowledge workers that need a quiet environment in order to perform successfully, as most of you seemed to pick up on. Maybe I should have focused on that more as indeed not everyone needs to commute very far for instance. But I sure as hell am never going back to an open office pit of despair.

I copied and pasted the title from the article. I didn't feel I should editorialize although I agree.
gsibble··on GPT-4-generated pitches are 3x more likely to secure funding than human ones
A company I work with is building this AI and it works extremely well.
gsibble··on GPT-4-generated pitches are 3x more likely to secure funding than human ones
Well, imagine you were sending your deck out to 100 VCs. Clearly, a GPT-4 tweaked deck would be more likely to land you the opportunity to pitch than if you wrote it yourself.

That's pretty incredible.

You don't have to base if off of "they'd definitely invest". That's dumb. Think about the advantage it gives you moving towards the possibility of investment.

gsibble··on Amazon just locked a man out of his smart home for a week by accident
Well, make it so I can make a longer title and I'd put that. I couldn't figure out how to phrase it in the length of title allowed.
gsibble··on Amazon just locked a man out of his smart home for a week by accident
How Amazon acted in this case is ridiculous.
