grp··on Volkswagen's U.S. diesel emissions settlement to cost $15B
Tesla can't do it. Electric vehicles have a lot of hidden pollution like a meat steak or a bottle of milk.

Tesla just makes cars that can't apply to gas emissions regulations, they are far from cleaner.

grp··on The simple things I want in a text editor
I use ranger [0] as a file manager. So I want to run any text editor in a terminal! In order to keep consistency with the many advantages of ranger.

grp··on Why I’m done with Apple
I'm, more and more, convinced that it's a kind of new marketing strategy from apple. Something like negative marketing for the masses (because it's more viral maybe?).

For example, we never talked so much about their phones, expect when they bent in the pockets...

grp··on The World Is Getting Fatter and No One Knows How to Stop It
But, if cooking problem is time. Remain in the time domain, by simply giving us more time, and don't waste time to disrupt a false problem.

Time and effort is what make life fun!

grp··on Brussels Rocked by Terrorist Attacks
They seek fear, not the maximum number of deaths. Victims are not the goal but a way.
grp··on Venezuela to Shut Down for a Week to Cope With Electricity Crisis
In 2016, the word socialism has no value anymore.

Venal is more related to corruption as there are independent of any economic and politic systems, even the troll ones.

grp··on Venezuela to Shut Down for a Week to Cope With Electricity Crisis
For fighting against corruption, there are those guys too: https://www.transparency.org/whoweare/contact/org/nc_venezue...

It seems there are active in Venezuela: http://transparencia.org.ve/

I just discover them a few days ago, I don't know more.

grp··on On asking job candidates to code
Linden tea, orange blossom tea or mix of both. Have a nice deep sleep.
grp··on Why Don't People Manage Debt Better?
I think it's peer pressure, every small things that urge them to be the best in their job of consumers and that trick who is: actually paycheck is only valuable when (and not how) you use it (for most people).
grp··on IBM Design
I was going to say it works like a charm with javascript disabled, but it's just broken fast!
grp··on What's holding back the world economy?
I share your opinion and bankers abuse it.

I'll look for the definition of moral obligation for politicians. Hoping that there is one.

grp··on What's holding back the world economy?
Politicians just need to be electable, not courageous. Why we ask them more?
grp··on Switzerland will vote on having a national wage of £1,700 a month
It's true that it will certainly not pass. But the main objective, as for any referendum, it's to put the debate on the public place and just that it's a unique privilege.
grp··on Why Are Corporations Hoarding Trillions?
The author seems to have a kind of old century overconfidence in the value of the dollar. I hope he uses only one currency for pratical reasons.

And I would rather read an article that use ratios between liquid/static moneys those corporations got instead of random values.

(I'm one of those that believes static money has no value, had and/or may have, but in reality it's absolute zero).

grp··on How Cigarettes Tax the Poor
True. And maybe more generally, there can't be pro or anti ads (same with good or bad ads).

Just ads, ads and ads. That generates a tobacco culture with smokers and non-smokers, but both just saw ads.

grp··on CAD Is a Lie: Generative Design to the Rescue
Thanks for your replies, you seem both experimented and it's a pleasure to read!

CAD tools being more powerful is good but not when it comes at the expense of powerusers, like (I suppose) brudgers and I are. It's frustating because others trends aren't exploited.

What the sense of being able to do more and better when your scope is more and more restricted? Where are the standard file formats that really carry informations? (small example: Creo and Inventor implemented svg import then dropped it...) CAD is a big walled garden and there are no alternatives, when they'll realize that openness is pure marketable innovation?

As a side note, I worked in a company where "if Inventor doesn't crash everyday, you're not working!"... spend lot of time debugging colleagues, not the soft. And, we were using Inventor less than 20% capabilities. I think that said a lot about a concrete use of CAD.

grp··on 90% of the billion dollar unicorn startups are in trouble
That clickbate generate comments. Regarding then, it seems many people have a lot of different opinions and a sour understanding of the market.

So, in my opinion, the real substance is: nobody knows what is going on, this creates a kind of fear and a negative atmosphere. Not a good thing.

grp··on 90% of the billion dollar unicorn startups are in trouble
The job of Buffet is to buy entire companies. Not so many people has the same job, so his point of view is interesting but should not be common.
grp··on Desktop Neo – rethinking the desktop interface for productivity
In case, for the tag-based filesystem, there are tmsu [1].

I will try it soon with ranger [2], I think managing tags with it won't be a problem as you can call the shell where you want.

grp··on Etsy stock has lost 76% of its value in 9 months
I don't have the answer but for my experience, I nearly don't use search engines anymore since approximately 2 months.

I've got some handful websites for what I want to do with a computer and that's all. By the way, I search more in bookstores than on internet (maybe for quality not quantity, don't know).

Web disappoints me, kind of full of emptiness now. I do not think it's representative.

grp··on CAD Is a Lie: Generative Design to the Rescue
Yep! But I forget that one cause it is not exactly what I want.. (btw, I plan to contact you when I have finished a prototype).
grp··on CAD Is a Lie: Generative Design to the Rescue
True. And the fact that (from context space), non-CAD colleagues doesn't really know what CAD do, so you must do CAD otherwise it seems that you do not do your job, like pre- and post-CAD things...

A kind of time travel, welcome!
grp··on Guide to Personal Productivity Methods
Thanks for the David Foster Wallace, I doesn't know that guy, I will look deeper into it. Yep, I'm aware that those 'basic truths' are valuable and I don't say otherwise.

The Chomsky quote wasn't just about that psychotherapist maxim, it's that one that made me tilted.

These maxims sound to me like if the job is not done it's the worker who got a problem and need to change. I'm just trying to say that maybe it could be the nature of the work and how we see it.

For example I am one of those who have really a lot of never-ending-awesome-side-projects. I'm fine with it.

As soon as I realize that particular job is more fun 'not to be completed' but because it allows me to learn more, share with others, discover techniques and occasionally strange weird reasons (wage?)! The completion is just a social reward (and yeah maybe I often fear the 'what to do next' desert).

The path to completion is so much more valuable to me.

We need more maxims to realize all the small ignored ends on the ongoing projects. Sometimes an idea is cool because of one of those ends, which is already done, and it would be a shame (and a time loss) to force yourself to continue.

P.S: I don't preach a do-never-finish lifestyle, it needs personal balance.

grp··on Guide to Personal Productivity Methods
Sure! ;)

As a human being, share is not a priority but it's vital to mankind. I didn't say to be a hermit, we need to cross genes sometimes!

grp··on Guide to Personal Productivity Methods
I read those maxims and there is one that surprised me: "Hire a psychotherapist".

What? Ok... I bring one from another context who IMO fits well here:

"The point of public relations slogans like “Support our troops” is that they don’t mean anything… That’s the whole point of good propaganda.

You want to create a slogan that nobody’s going to be against, and everybody’s going to be for.

Nobody knows what it means, because it doesn’t mean anything. Its crucial value is that it diverts your attention from a question that does mean something: Do you support our policy? That’s the one you’re not allowed to talk about." Noam Chomsky

grp··on Guide to Personal Productivity Methods
I'm trying a reverse strategy. The basic idea is to learn to do nothing at all. Really nothing, except breathing, eating, drinking water and sleeping.

The purpose is to filter out any activity that challenge breath, eat, drink and sleep. If one comes in any way, I just quickly put in the the trash.

That way when I reach a goal (if I had one at the time), I breathe better and so on... So step by step I create my world only on those 4 pillars.

There are so many things that trying to tweak those pillars, maybe the first one in your case is that battle against procrastination.

Avoid them and you will have so long to do who makes you breathe better...

grp··on A letter to our daughter
I hope he doesn't make a baby as a tool.

"Dear Max, we use you to make some PR. We won't give you the money we don't have. Love, Mom and Dad."
