graton··on Switching to Claude Code and VSCode Inside Docker
I use VMs myself. I use Proxmox and have it setup so that I can spin up a fresh VM in around 10-20 seconds when needed. I also like that I can take snapshots.

I really want to limit the amount of software I am installing on my main system due to possible security issues.

graton··on The curse of knowing how, or; fixing everything
One of the reasons I set Kagi to "lower" results from medium for my searching.
graton··on Redis is open source again
I wonder how that works legally with CLA. If the person who originally wrote the code is not the one who signs off the PR. I assume the lawyers have signed off on it.

Did they maintain the author's copyright notice as required by BSD-3?

graton··on Redis is open source again
Well Valkey has more commits to their repository then Redis does, and more contributors. So it appears to be active.

graton··on Firefox tab groups are here
Seems different to me. Containers allow you to have different cookies per container.
graton··on Firefox tab groups are here
It is built into the latest version of Firefox. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
graton··on Microsoft’s original source code
Personally I like it :) Tastes differ.
graton··on If you get the chance, always run more extra network fiber cabling
They are the lowest power way to connect SFP. And they are cheap.

Though I'm not sure I would pull them as they tend to max out at around 6-7 meters. I use them to connect systems within the same rack/room.

graton··on Why is Ashburn the data center capital of the world?
The article states it is from 2019. So not sure if things have changed.

I'm surprised how many data centers there are in Hillsboro, Oregon. And they have more under construction at the moment. I wonder where Hillsboro ranks?

> Did you not read the article? This is just a 100k+ self immolation as far as they can tell.

I did read the article as it was initially published. But near the bottom of the article it says it has been updated multiple times. So since I posted my question they have updated the article.

As a note you might want to read the rules on this site: https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html

graton··on A Tesla Cybertruck 'blew up' outside Trump's hotel in Las Vegas
Wow. Scary. Quality is hard to tell but I don't see big indications of the vehicle on fire before it does explode.
graton··on A Tesla Cybertruck 'blew up' outside Trump's hotel in Las Vegas
I wonder why the person stayed inside the vehicle. Did they not know it was on fire? Were they unable to exit the vehicle as the fire disabled the doors? Some other reason?

It would be scary if the reason is because the fire made it so the doors wouldn't open.

EDIT: The article has been updated since I first posted the question. Now there are reports that it might be a possible suicide type action. But I imagine it is still too early to tell.

graton··on Tell HN: John Friel my father, internet pioneer and creator of QModem, has died
That might be Qodem instead of Qmodem. But I would be happy to be wrong.
graton··on South Korea declares martial law
Seems like it is already being discussed in: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42306020
graton··on Tip pressure might work in the moment, but customers are less likely to return
I'm more likely to pay cash at those type of businesses. As then there is no tip screen. And as the article states I have also avoided some businesses because they have them.
graton··on WireGuard: Beyond the most basic configuration
I think you need to use `Table = off`. With that you probably can get what you want.
graton··on WireGuard: Beyond the most basic configuration
This is the answer. I too ran into the same issue. Took me awhile to figure this part out.
graton··on Netflix buffering issues: Boxing fans complain about Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson
I think you are correct. Ziply Fiber said they were seeing 2.1 times their normal peak [1].

But also people were saying they weren't having any issues streaming on Ziply.

graton··on Delta: A syntax-highlighting pager for Git, diff, grep, and blame output
Does Araxis Merge work in the terminal on Linux?
graton··on Working from home is powering productivity
People being downtown are people more likely to spend money downtown then someone who lives in the suburbs and doesn't come to downtown. Therefore more sales taxes collected, more businesses in downtown, etc...
graton··on Senior Intel CPU architects splinter to develop RISC-V processors
As a note, non-competes are for the most part illegal in California, from my understanding.
graton··on In "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre," Feeding Your Family Comes First
Sort of made me think of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sawney_Bean

Husband and wife in Scotland, who lived in a cave and raised their children there. They would go out at night and kill people and then eat them. Supposedly they killed over 1,000 people.

graton··on AMD records its highest server market share in decades
Prebuilt PC sales is likely that cause. I'm sure AMD has a much higher share for those who are building their computers. But that is most likely an overall small share of the market of computers sold.
graton··on Free DDNS with Cloudflare and a cronjob
As I've said before. The server behind the router does not have a public IPv6 address. It is NATed to the Internet. Getting the internal IPv6 address is useless for this case.

I do not like to have the servers/computers that are on the internal home network directly connected to the Internet.

graton··on Free DDNS with Cloudflare and a cronjob
I'll agree to disagree :)
graton··on Free DDNS with Cloudflare and a cronjob
I think the same situation applies for IPv6 if you are behind a router.
graton··on Free DDNS with Cloudflare and a cronjob
I have a router connected to the internet, it gets the public IP address.

The router is connected to the internal network in my home and has the IP address of 192.168.1.1.

Behind the router is my computer which has a non-public IP address, for example 192.168.1.2. My computer is the one I want to run the program to update the DNS entry. My computer does not know what the public IP address is by looking at its interfaces.

graton··on Free DDNS with Cloudflare and a cronjob
That requires running it on the router/device which gets the public IP address. By using the service you can update your DNS IP address on a system that is behind the router.
graton··on Free DDNS with Cloudflare and a cronjob
I have moved all of mine to Cloudflare.
graton··on Pilots said nothing as Southwest plane flew dangerously low over Tampa Bay
This flight incident occurred on July 14th. The Crowdstrike incident happened five days later on July 19th. They are unrelated.
