Also at face value, it may seem like “an hour of engineering time,” but I think cloud vendor lock in is real unless you try very hard to only use abstract constructs.
Free is free until it’s not. When Cloudflare becomes the new Akamai and needs profits, guess who will get squeezed. If you’ve built your app around their vendor specific stuff like Cloudflare functions, that can be bad news.
The crackpots had a greater barrier to transmit back in the day. They had to get an FCC license or know someone with a radio station. Even then reach was limited unless you could reach a deal to transmit nationwide.
I personally believe our brains are primed on some level to buy into this stuff. It’s very hard to overcome.
expectInternalServerErrorOnBadInput
Vs
expect internal server error on bad input
Can you elaborate for laypersons such as myself?
There are plenty of ways to scale out traditional RDBMS, but serverless offerings make it so easy to scale out.
It takes longer with the dollar amount being so large, but SpaceX has a real advantage of 1) being vertically integrated 2) having customers buy the rockets and 3) having expertise and ability to iterate very quickly on satellite designs. I don’t know of a single company that can compete with them on #2 and 3 right now.
My prediction is that SpaceX satellites will perform better in the real world due to the density they’ve built up, and they will be able to partner with 3rd parties for much cheaper. I’m not saying that’s what will happen, but I’m pretty blown away by what they’ve been able to do so far.
I hope that they will, but the engineers at SpaceX have made me a believer. If the gen 1 direct to cell sats don’t perform (it seems like they do), they’ll just launch another batch a couple weeks later. I don’t think AST will have this ability, so I hope they get it right.
I personally put a lot of thought into and struggle with gun/weapon legislation. I very much enjoy hearing from others, and it has helped shape my opinion in this area over the years.
You do bring up a good point. I can’t help but wonder if there’s a better metric for comment “rank” rather than a binary up/downvote.
(after the nuclear test ban treaty, they run a LOT of simulations)
Sure, it’s not going to do massive damage like a 7.62x51, but it’s still enough to seriously injure.
I think the larger question is proliferation and intent within a culture. For example, I’m of the opinion knives are a tool, but they can easily be used as a weapon. There’s a huge grey area between hobbies, tools, and weapons. I think it’s up to the collective groups to decide what’s appropriate.
Surely you must be joking about a first-strike nuclear provocation or larger. I would think almost anything other than a border incursion could be dealt with in other ways.
Should Putin be held more accountable for his actions? Absolutely, but a nuclear response is not going to go well unless absolutely justified.
Wouldn’t it be possible to get a gravity assist in any alignment - albeit just taking a little longer to ping-pong across the system?
I specifically found the Netflix suite for Spring very lacking, and found message oriented architectures on something like NATS a lot easier to work with.
