graiz··on AMD acquires Taalas to boost inference performance by etching models in silicon
Take an open model and put it on chip, it becomes a dedicated sub-agent. You can still use a frontier model to check things or orchestrate but having 1000 sub-agents becomes very possible. I was already long AMD but just added to my position.
graiz··on Superlogical
It's built for ai agents, tmux works but isn't designed for an ai workflow. Herdr is also very well thought out, not just the design/approach but also the interaction and mouse support, responsive support, etc. I had been using tmux, switched and haven't looked back.
graiz··on Fizz Buzz in CSS
145 using P instead of li.

<style> p{counter-increment:n} p:not(:nth-child(5n)):before{content:counter(n)} p:nth-child(3n):before{content:"Fizz"} p:nth-child(5n):after{content:"Buzz"} </style><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p><p>

graiz··on Cool-retro-term: terminal emulator which mimics look and feel of CRTs
Cool project, love the visuals. Wish it would merge as a plugin or something to a project like http://ghostty.org/ while I appreciate the visual fun, there are other pragmatic tools beyond visuals that are handy.
graiz··on OpenDesk – a flexible all-in-one office suite for the public sector
We're open! But you can't just download, please request a demo.
graiz··on Show HN: Browser MCP – Automate your browser using Cursor, Claude, VS Code
works better than puppet mcp for me but having issues with keyboard events and actions on some websites.
graiz··on How to Use Em Dashes (–), En Dashes (–), and Hyphens (-)
Hyphens - I'm normal, breaking up thoughts. En / Em - I'm an AI or I'm using AP style guide to write articles.
graiz··on Ask HN: Is anyone still using Dreamweaver?
What a strange post. Anyone using Frontpage or Mosaic?
graiz··on Qutebrowser: A keyboard-driven, Vim-like browser
Chrome extension - vimium does the same thing. I've been using it for years.
graiz··on WP21
I wish wordpress did fewer things but did them better. There should be something that is a notch better Jekyll but doesn't get gross when you install a dozen plug-ins. Out of the box wordpress produces a very slow and bandwidth heavy site.
graiz··on Lessons learned from studying 4k YC companies
Would love to see more of the output data. - How many win/loss clusters did the data produce? - In vector space what was the seperation between B2B and B2C companies? - Did you normalize against size of win/market-cap or anything else?
graiz··on Thinking out loud about 2nd-gen email
Would be great if Google/Apple/Microsoft could lead some of these Internet upgrade initiatives. I think we have more cross corporate collaboration on Emoji selection.
graiz··on Show HN: Exploring HN by mapping and analyzing 40M posts and comments for fun
Would be cool to see member similarity. Finding like-minded commentors/posters may help discover content that would be of interest.
graiz··on Find My Device on Android
Seems like the type of thing that would benefit from a joint iOS/Android W3C protocol between Apple/Google/Samsung. Perhaps a find my Matter device?
graiz··on Want to start a startup? Meet all the YC partners in Boston – Apr 20th
Why assume that they are excluded?
graiz··on 4D Knit Dress
Ministry of Supply has always had great products, more people need to know about them.
graiz··on Show HN: I built an alternative to product tours
This concept has a well-known name that you don't seem to use in your design or marketing called "Progressive Disclosure." It was coined back in 2006 to explain this concept.

I do think it's tricky to do this as a 3rd party website. Most sites would want the disclosure logic to live inside their product, as coded logic. I do like the concept and how you've built this.

graiz··on Disney unveils the HoloTile floor
You can read the patent here: https://patents.google.com/patent/US20180217662A1/en
graiz··on Idea for a new hand tool: Automatic Wire Twisting Pliers
Why not build a prototype?
graiz··on Show HN: EXT – an easy way to build cross-platform desktop software
I like the idea of a JS based app-store. Interesting. It may be difficult to get normies to install the app but I like the idea.
graiz··on FreeTube – The Private YouTube Client
It's worth pointing out that this hurts the creators who make those videos that you are watching.
graiz··on A wild idea to protect the Great Barrier Reef
I wonder if off-shore wind could act as a water mister when there is wind/energy surplus?
graiz··on CSS is, in fact, awesome (2021)
The problem with css is that it's a horrible design language, terrible from a developer perspective, and abysmal from a performance perspective both on the network-side, server and client side. In-fact it would be difficult to come up with a standard for transmitting information, layout and style specifications over the Internet in a worse and less efficient way.

Most web-pages size is 1MB or more while the text is usually 1-2Kb. That means we have roughly 1000x spent on styling/layout in relation to content. I wrote a post about this back in 2006, still true. https://gregraiz.com/graiz/2006/09/25/ten-reasons-why-css-su...

graiz··on Meaningful exits for founders (2016)
The links referenced in the article didn't work, this was from 2016. https://medium.com/jme-venture-capital/meaningful-vc-exits-2...

I couldn't find the capshare post but there was a similar slide deck from capshare: https://www.slideshare.net/IanBeckett3/analysing-5000-startu...

graiz··on What Is Happening with ChatGPT?
I asked ChatGPT to interpret this code:

  text_to_encode = "<|endoftext|>"
  print(text_to_encode)
ChatGPT: The code you provided would output an empty string.
graiz··on For the love of god, stop microwaving plastic
I avoided linking examples because a skeptic will always find faults in cherry picked examples. I encourage you to read a few studies with an open mind and draw your own conclusion. Many of these studies I've seen do address your concerns around control groups.
graiz··on For the love of god, stop microwaving plastic
Styrofoam is plastic. Dow Chemical got a fancy trademark but microwaving it is just as awful. It's extruded polystyrene foam, I would avoid eating food out of it (even if it's not microwaved).
graiz··on For the love of god, stop microwaving plastic
It's not just microwaving plastic. Microwaving plastic is particularly bad but people need to understand that this stuff is all over our food chain, not just the packaging either. Wild Salmon, Organic Chicken, and other foods are now showing up because the micro-plastic is in the food chain.

To those saying that the effects of plastic are unknown... False. Do some basic searching for medical studies on this and there are tons papers on the impacts to biology, immunology, endocrine system, reproductive systems, etc.

graiz··on WordPress Playground: A WordPress that runs entirely in the browser
No need to dunk on wordpress but it has a lot of history and issues. It would be great to have a modern alternative self-hosted solution that doesn't require static site generation or complex hosting.
graiz··on GPTrolley – Who Would GPT Save in the Trolley Problem?
"I will save Elon Musk and kill Mark Zuckerberg. Elon Musk's visionary ideas and ambition have pushed the boundaries of technology and innovation in various industries, from electric vehicles to space exploration. His contributions to sustainable energy and the potential for a multi-planetary existence make him a more valuable asset to society. On the other hand, Mark Zuckerberg's impact and influence have been primarily focused on social media platforms, which, although significant, do not hold the same potential for groundbreaking advancements."
