gotem··on Musk tweets he reached out to Apple's Tim Cook for acquiring Tesla
Tesla should sell the iPad in the car. If they sold them each for $1,000 and sold 500 a day (probably on the low end) they could do more than $10M a year in profit probably.
gotem··on Facebook’s campaign against Apple is against users and small businesses
Seems like there’s a few major contradictions when discussing targeted ads.

This article seems to claim that targeted ads may not be that effective. If that’s true, why is my CAC on FB significantly lower after a few hundred pixel conversions? If that’s true and ads that aren’t targeted are cheaper yet just as effective, as the article claims, why are DTC brands spending so much on FB and not on less sophisticated ad networks? You’d think there’d be a pricing equilibrium unless we think that every DTC marketer is either incapable of calculating ROAS or they don’t care.

gotem··on Why the Office Isn’t Going Away
Wow this is incredible! Thank you so much for the suggestion.
gotem··on Why the Office Isn’t Going Away
Good point. What opportunities are there? Seems like low-hanging fruit is building video / audio calls with presentation sharing.
gotem··on Why the Office Isn’t Going Away
Agreed, but I wonder which companies, if any, will seek to recreate physical offices virtually.
gotem··on 9k-Year-Old Stonehenge-Like Structure Found Under Lake Michigan
Crazy. Have there been any details revealed yet on how it was transported? Stonehenge is thousands of miles from Michigan
gotem··on New York Times retracts core of podcast series ‘Caliphate’
Could’ve been avoided if the people in charge knew it was false from the beginning.
gotem··on Blob Opera
The automation of opera singers came earlier than expected
gotem··on 80% of musicians earn less than £200 a year from streaming
Why don’t artists just release music under different names? E.g. an artist who only made $200 could create 5,000 different variations and now be making $100,000 which is awesome.
gotem··on How Payment Transaction Processing Works
You can use any billing address and name. Pretty awesome
gotem··on I'm Peter Roberts, immigration attorney who does work for YC and startups. AMA
I was just discussing in general, but if you can only comment on immigration-related ones I’d be curious to hear what some common issues are that startups run into when hiring immigrants.
gotem··on I'm Peter Roberts, immigration attorney who does work for YC and startups. AMA
What are some of the greatest legal risks/vulnerabilities for startups and how can they be mitigated? Or unexpected risks.
gotem··on Apple removes then restores DoNotPay app in the App Store
I believe they used to not even mention it in their checkout and instead hid the $3 a month subscription in TOS.
gotem··on Ask HN: What did you purchase that measurably improved your quality of life?
Does it ever lead to tingling sensations in your hands? I was dealing with what I thought was cubical tunnel and noticed my forearms are always so tight
gotem··on Ask HN: What did you purchase that measurably improved your quality of life?
Yup I sometimes accidentally fall asleep with mine on. The noise cancelling works even while not playing anything. Just make sure you don’t sleep on side and crush them but you should be fine as they’re pretty resilient to damage (except water).
gotem··on Ask HN: What did you purchase that measurably improved your quality of life?
What muscles do you use it on? My forearms have been super tight recently.
gotem··on Ask HN: What did you purchase that measurably improved your quality of life?
Noise-canceling headphones. I recommend Bose QC35 IIs. You don’t realize how loud the world normally is until you take them off.
gotem··on The Man Who Edited Melville (1982)
Thoughts on Bartleby?
gotem··on The Walls of the Waldorf Astoria
Since when has Bloomberg been riddled with this many ads?
gotem··on [dead]
He reported paying taxes, in turn, on a number of his overseas ventures. In 2017, the president’s $750 contribution to the operations of the U.S. government was dwarfed by the $15,598 he or his companies paid in Panama, the $145,400 in India and the $156,824 in the Philippines.

America first.

gotem··on Toward a Technological Cage for the Masses
I’m not too concerned

gotem··on If nearly 40% of Americans aren’t working, what are they doing? (2015)
Any income besides algo? How well does it perform?
gotem··on Ask HN: Has anyone fixed their own bruxism?
Would love to know as well. I often find that I've been holding my breath for quite a while whether I'm reading or working and suddenly will gasp for air.
