goeric··on Software Engineering in the Agentic Era
Simon, if you're reading this, I'm a huge fan of so much of your work! Rodney CLI has been a game changer for local development. I have a few open PRs that I've contributed but it doesn't look active. Are you planning on maintaining it or should I fork it?
goeric··on Google ends its 30 percent app store fee and welcomes third-party app stores
You can thank Epic Games.
goeric··on Show HN: Micasa – track your house from the terminal
I love this! I've made a web version powered by your data layer and REST API. Let me know what you think. https://github.com/goeric/webcasa

AND all their current customers (and customer pipeline) AND their roadmap.
goeric··on The cult of WeWork
Not always. Our startup's rented suite in DTLA did not have janitorial services provided for (only common building areas) and no security guard. Access cards? It was a metal key.
goeric··on Google Fiber Is High-Speed Internet’s Most Successful Failure
I have gigabit fiber internet (up and down) in LA for $80/m from AT&T. It's incredible, and I can't believe they offer it. I can't imagine that would be the case today if Google Fiber never existed.
goeric··on Nvidia announces RTX 2000 GPU series with ‘6x more performance’ and ray-tracing
Those prices are Nvidia's OC Founder's Editions. The non-OC versions are actually:

goeric··on Disney’s streaming service: all the news and updates on Netflix rival
There's literally no information here.
goeric··on Spectrum internet is getting kicked out of New York
It’s pretty incredible speed. However, their customer service is atrocious. I signed up for a $70/m deal for the first year. This was confirmed by the sales rep. Then I was billed $80/m. They refused to do anything about it, saying the $70/m offer never existed.
goeric··on Spectrum internet is getting kicked out of New York
I have AT&T Gigafiber (1000mbps) not too far from you in Echo Park. Maybe they offer it in DTLA? I'm only paying $80/m.
goeric··on Boom has orders for 76 of its future supersonic passenger jets
So excited about this but I do think they may want to re-think their name, especially given Concorde's end.
goeric··on The Impossible Burger
Because they don't usually avoid meat because they don't like the taste - they do it for morale reasons. And sure, in 35 years a person may forget what that taste is, but if you make the best tasting plant-based burger then all sorts of people will be interested.
goeric··on Startup wants to build tools for lawyers to speed up legal services
If you're ever looking for PM's this is right up my ally. I was the co-founder and head of product at Naritiv (Techstars/Disney Accel S14, acquired by Hootsuite). I also ran ops as well and dealt with our law firms (corp and entertainment) every week. Would love to talk! Email in profile.
goeric··on Reddit's Ad Changes Reduce Your ROI
Just make it an option and problem solved. You can even make it the default. As long as users like OP can opt-out.
goeric··on iPhone X
Face ID just failed in the on-stage demo. Oops :(.

Isn't Reddit already open source?

goeric··on Video is Coming to Reddit
I think it's pretty simple and I always wondered why they didn't do it sooner. Reddit is already one of the most popular sites on the Internet - but since it was just an aggregator it constantly took users off their site. Now they're owning more and more of the content and keeping users there longer. Sure, video is expensive, but now they have a much bigger revenue opportunity. They can't monetize videos they don't host.
goeric··on Tesla seeks to raise $1.5B to fund Model 3 production
The price is $35,000 before tax incentives.
goeric··on Online PSD to Sketch file converter
Super useful, thank you!
goeric··on Ubuntu is now available on the Windows Store

goeric··on Comma.ai launches an $88 universal car interface called Panda
He also said he will "ship" his product and badmouthed his competitors for not shipping. Then he cancelled his product after one cease and desist. George is a brilliant mind, but I hope he figures out how to become a better entrepreneur. He has so much potential.
goeric··on Reduce your startup's payroll taxes through the new Federal R&D Tax Credit
While the R&D tax credit is not new, one of the tweaks was not a slight change.

Before, you could only offset your corporate income taxes, so you couldn't claim the credit if you weren't profitable (because you wouldn't have corporate income taxes). Now, you can offset social security taxes, which are based on payroll. So more startups can now benefit from this credit.

goeric··on A music-lover's guide to tinnitus
Mine was came after attempting to pop my ears during a very bad ear infection. I was trying to relieve the pressure, as I have done a lot, but because of the bad ear infection it was actually making it worse. The pain was so bad and it felt like my ear was never going to pop. Eventually, the pain subsided but at that exact same time, in place of the pain, was a ringing.

My ENT said the tinnitus was most likely caused by the bad ear infection and tried to assure me that me trying to pop my ears didn't have anything to do with it, but I can't help but feel like that wasn't the case, as I made the pain so much worse.

Anyways, agreed with others here that the first few months were the worst, and now it's mostly unnoticeable unless I actively think about it, drink a lot, or leave a loud environment.

goeric··on The Decline of Imgur on Reddit and the Rise of Reddit's Native Image Hosting
Reddit hasn't been part of Conde Nast for a while.
goeric··on Justin Kan Raises $10M for New Legal Startup
As a startup founder who dealt with numerous legal things on the ops side, there's clearly room for a lot of improvement. While Clerky seems to focus on the startup's side of the problem, it seems like Justin is tackling the firm's side of the problem (that allows company's like Clerky to take their business). This is really interesting to me and I would definitely bet on anything Justin leads. Really excited to see where this goes.
goeric··on [dead]
Pretty insane that the semi-famous "Bitcoin Pizza" would now valued at ~$22M.

goeric··on CEOs Want Their Offices Back
I think people forget, or maybe don't realize, open floor plans were popularized in the startup world because of their cost savings. It's very hard/expensive to rent office space with enough rooms for everyone, or build one out that way. It's way easier to put a bunch of IKEA desks next to each other.

I'm not saying there's not a better way, but that's the justification. Anybody trying to convince others that open floor plans are more productive is living in crazy town.

goeric··on Maru OS – A complete desktop experience on a smartphone
Could theoretically be the older model (Cinema Display) which is Display Port. Then it would be HDMI > DP and should work ;).
goeric··on Twitch to start selling video games this week
You're not wrong, that would be the next best play Amazon could do.
goeric··on Twitch to start selling video games this week
I disagree on the former, they absolutely need to hurry. But you're right, definitely an attractive acquisition target. I would say it would be a great fit for Microsoft.
