goeric··on A New Codecademy
This is really great but I think a cross between this and Treehouse would be best. It's close. But if there was some way Codecademy could have a plugin for Sublime Text and have it be connected to the courses it would be pretty amazing.
goeric··on Streem (YC S12) Offers Unlimited Cloud Storage and Streaming for $20/Month
Will this work with Rsync and allow me to automatically copy the contents of my seedbox (Linux) so I can stream it? My seedbox only downloads free indie movies...
goeric··on I took ads off my site and replaced with Bitcoin donations, it didn't work.
60K views for $6 would be $0.10 CPM. His was 60k views for $60 which is $1 CPM.
goeric··on Dart: The World's Smallest Laptop Adapter
Regarding market and buzz, that's exactly what they're doing. They certainly have proved their market. The rest really depends on their long term goals.
goeric··on Square Market Accepts Bitcoin
Curious if they are going to take a lower transaction fee on Bitcoin payments as opposed to credit card purchases. They really should.
goeric··on Build Your Own Lockitron With Twilio, Arduino, and Node.js
Lockitron can't even build their own Lockitron. My order has been delayed around 6 months now :(.
goeric··on Consumer Reports Calls Tesla Model S The Best Car Of 2014
Tesla will reach $500 per share within 3 years, if not sooner. When Gen3 comes out, it'll basically be the iPhone of cars. Everybody will want one.

The stock does seem a bit overvalued currently and I wouldn't be surprised to see some drops in the coming weeks. But regardless, $500 within 3 years. Mark my words.

goeric··on Group Matchmaking Startup The Dating Ring (YC W14) Launches In San Francisco
The difference in @gavanwoolery's idea is that you don't bring any friends. The whole group is curated. Which is different from Grouper, but basically the same as the company OP linked to.
goeric··on Show HN: Taplytics – Mobile A/B testing you'll actually use
This is pretty amazing. Congrats, I think this will be extremely useful to a lot of apps.
goeric··on Startup aims to bring Call of Duty-like tech to live paintball games
Really clever idea, but $50,000 to bring this to market is way too unrealistic. He's going to need a lot more.

Could see this being a huge hit, though. Paintball 2.0.

goeric··on How I introduced a 27-year-old computer to the web
All the 286 is serving you ~70kb of HTML5 and Javascript. The rest is done on your computer.
goeric··on Bank Of America Promoting Bitcoin To Its Business Customers
Wow. That was...unexpected.
goeric··on Kano - Make a computer
Really just seems like you're reselling Raspberry Pi with fancy packaging and some accessories. Hardly would classify that as building a computer.

Great video and design, though.

goeric··on Diary of a programmer with no clue about marketing
Extremely great advice here. Most people might think this is second nature, but there really is a list of boxes to check and these are all necessary.
goeric··on URX (YC S13) Is A Brilliant Mobile Ad Service That Deeplinks Into Ecommerce Apps
How would this work if the user didn't already have the app it's deeplinking to? Like if an ad in Pandora took me to a page in Hotel Tonight but I didn't have Hotel Tonight installed, then what?

Also, seems like a feature that could be added to one of the more popular in-app ad services without too much effort.

goeric··on Square Cash
Glad they changed it from 50 cents to free. Smart move.

They solve this problem with the least amount of friction.

goeric··on Welcome to Clicking Bad, bitch.
Really cool. Save doesn't seem to do anything?
goeric··on Zenefits (YC W13) Rolls Its HR Automation Services Out To All 50 States
We've also been using Zenefits for a while now and it's amazing. Let's just say I have a lot less headaches to worry about and I can focus on more important things.

Parker and team are killing it. This is going to really disrupt insurance agencies.

goeric··on Amazon was down
It's not. We're having issues with one of our EC2 instances and this is clearly effecting other sites. It's very unnerving that their service health dashboard isn't reporting any issues.

EDIT: It just now reported an issue on EC2 N. Virginia. Still a little disappointed that it's not real-time.

goeric··on Amazon.com is down
It's not, we're having issues with one of our EC2 instances. Very unnerving that their AWS Service Health Dashboard isn't reporting any problems.
goeric··on Show HN: Too busy for online dating? Try Wednesday Night
Grouper is growing like crazy and requires Facebook.

This is basically Grouper, without the group, and way too expensive ($75 per date? Are you kidding?). I would also say much less appealing then Grouper as well, because going solo is a much harder sell, at least to the younger demographic.
