ghostDancer··on Spain orders blocks on Archive.today and its mirrors
You don't know how hard is to maintain a country when you have to run in front of the bulls while making a paella at the same time you dance some flamenco./s

I guess that's your view of Spain, you should read and view things from more modern years than the 1950's. Also talk or Morocco and his allies USA and Israel about the immigrants that the mafia sent into Spain and Spain has never been communist or socialist, unless you don't what socialism and communism is.

Spain did not got hit by WW2 cause it was absolutely destroyed by a civil war beginning 1936. After that a dictatorship of 40 years and when it opened all industry got hit cause it was heavily protected and could not compete in open markets, add to that most of the working industries were cheaply sold to friends of the dictatorship who were, and some of them still are, in power positions.
ghostDancer··on Diplodocus, Long Thought Exclusively American, Turns Up in Spain
Probably went one summer to run the bulls in Pamplona.

ghostDancer··on Debian votes to allow "responsible use of generative AI"
There are several occurrences in history that the democratic majority has chosen the "wrong" person/way/thing. Democracy is considered the best system but it's not perfect.
ghostDancer··on Moon (2024)
And could perfectly hide the secret nazi base on it's back. ;-)
ghostDancer··on KOReader
In my case from different places like itch.io , smashwords.com, gumroad.com, some fundraisings that provide epubs. You also have some nice free places like standardebooks.org. Or you can sail the digital seven seas if there's no availability.
ghostDancer··on Lost city discovered beneath Egypt's desert with ancient church
Yeah, also it was the way it happened, we should not judge those times with our vision of things, different times, different values. All religions are a form of control over the peasants, Islam grew and evolved in an area with a set of political and social characteristics and Christianity the same but different ones and that's why you find the differences and the same reason that Islam and Christianity split in several branches. And you can see east Europe went Orthodox, South Europe went Catholic and North went Protestant, add to that the fights for the power.

Oh playing the old game of "you more" , we're not debating which belief is more savage than the other, all of them are, we're pointing out that the followers of the supposedly all loving version of a god killed, should we say assassinated, lots of people just because their discoveries did not fit in their stories books.

And they burned quite people for defending the science that went against their beliefs. They only stopped when they thought it would be good for their economic profits. Exactly the same when they stopped protecting slavery, when they thought it would be good as they would get a lot of new followers and all the money and influence that would come with them. And all the fights that gave birth to the other Christian churches always for the same reasons power and money.
ghostDancer··on Lost city discovered beneath Egypt's desert with ancient church
In the beginning it prosecuted the Christians but later the Roman empire embraced Christianity and imposed all through the empire. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christianity_as_the_Roman_stat...
ghostDancer··on Lost city discovered beneath Egypt's desert with ancient church
Capitalist countries all of them.
ghostDancer··on Lost city discovered beneath Egypt's desert with ancient church
That's not exactly true. Spain, Portugal and France, at least, speak languages derived from Latin, while the original languages went extincted. And Christian religion taken by the Romans annihilated all the rest of religions in Europe.
ghostDancer··on Iran Delays U.S. Peace Talks over Israeli Attacks in Lebanon
It was clear that Israel did not want the peace agreement so they were going to sabotage it and this will show that USA has not any control or power over what Israel is doing.
ghostDancer··on Scott Adams has died
Not from the USA so I don't know exactly how this cancel culture is working but do they have his books banned from libraries cause I have seen a list of books banned or cancelled and the organization chasing them but can not find his works and there are comics like "Maus"
ghostDancer··on A $20 drug in Europe requires a prescription and $800 in the U.S.
People from USA always complaining about the excessive regulations in Europe but suddenly it's the USA that has worse and more excessive. It doesn't add up. And why it's another medicament like insulin much cheaper in Europe than in USA, doctors and politicians bought by big corp manipulating the market. Big pharma is an extortion racket and the USA is their field, now they want to export that model to Europe.
ghostDancer··on A $20 drug in Europe requires a prescription and $800 in the U.S.
I know, the problem with drugs in USA is the control a few corporations have over the politicians and the market, that's the reason health care and all related things are so expensive there compared to Europe.
ghostDancer··on A $20 drug in Europe requires a prescription and $800 in the U.S.
That's not true, most of the gray markets you have to be careful with the quality of the product. Also, there are regulations on Europe, like with insulin but in USA is much more expensive than in Europe.
ghostDancer··on A $20 drug in Europe requires a prescription and $800 in the U.S.
Nothing says capitalism and free market like good extortion on health products and services. That's the way to go USA.
ghostDancer··on Space Truckin' – The Nostromo (2012)
I'm a fan of the franchise but the fan service in the last movie was lame, it took me out of the movie a couple of times. And that's the reason why I resist to watch the series, afraid of more of the same stupid winks to the fans.
ghostDancer··on Microsoft has urged its employees on H-1B and H-4 visas to return immediately
If when you say America you're talking about United States of America that's quite debatable not only right now but since some years ago.

ghostDancer··on Mario Vargas Llosa has died
And you probably think that North Korea is a Democratic Republic too causes it's says so. Look at what they do not at what the say.
ghostDancer··on Mario Vargas Llosa has died
Savater has not experienced socialism, Spain has never been socialist, Savater has been always someone in great need of attention and joins anyone who gives him that. And the Spain's fascism has give him that. I've seen it since He was teaching in University In San Sebastian and was easier to find him in certain bars and in the horse races than at his work.
ghostDancer··on Words flagged in search of current NSF awards
Standard HN procedure, some people flag it that way when it's unflagged gets lost in 2nd page or behinde. It happens with other "divisive" or "delicate" subjects too.

ghostDancer··on Crypto bros wrested Flappy Bird from its creator
That's capitalism and free market. Money, or at least numbers in a spreadsheet, always wins.
ghostDancer··on Can we stop the decline of monarch butterflies and other pollinators?
I think I should have added the /s. I agree with you and that was the point as it mainly affects poor people the owners/rich people don't mind, in fact it's better for them as desperate people are easier to be abused as we can see all around the world. They tell us not take long showers while they keep the water for golf courses. Not to mention airplane traveling, etc ... In the end it will affect them but in the meantime all the rest are going to pay the bill.
