gennarro··on Launch HN: AirMyne (YC W22) – Capturing CO2 from air at industrial scale
Can someone explain the concept of a ton of air to me? Is the air measure as if it was compressed into a solid?
gennarro··on Vectorizing the Code of Federal Regulations
Have seen many attempts to work with the dataset! It’s a fun challenge. https://ecfr.report and ecfr.io come to mind, but .gov is still the best.
gennarro··on Oxide at Home: Propolis Says Hello
Unrelated: But anyone remember xoxide.com? The computer building site from the early 2000s? One of my favorite sites of all time.
gennarro··on MarketRank: Anti-SEO Ranking Algorithm
This is a very bad idea that is very well presented. Thanks for a fun read.

Why bad? People have largely said, but I’ll note that a new blog with a single legendary quality post on a niche topic would have no chance to rank, just like google. Plus this could be games if you engage in social media promotion, which many people choose not to do.

gennarro··on The Meme Leak Theory
> But when multiple "crowds" try to sway more people to join them, what determines which groups ultimately succeed? The quality of their memes.

Seems to be the premise of this argument, and this seems to be deeply flawed to me. Wishful thinking at best, and liked a confusion of correlation and causation. But I also have no data to prove this claim.

gennarro··on Resurrecting an Old Plotter (2019)
After somewhat obsessing over the old plotters I bought one, and now I find I don’t have much I want to do with it? I’ve been playing with a few things in Inkscape and some js I wrote but that’s it. Any suggestions on where to go next?
gennarro··on How should net metering affect your electric bill?
I'm shocked by how easily electricity prices are easy to find yet no one knows what theirs is! Example: https://utility.report
gennarro··on Lowest Global Warming Potential Refrigerators and Freezers
I’ve read the same about heat but mainly in combination with high humidity places where sweating (evaporative cooling) is much less effective.
gennarro··on Locked out of 'God Mode', runners are hacking their treadmills
Exactly why I only buy dumb devices ex: https://non-smart.com type stuff
gennarro··on T-Mobile begins blocking iPhone users from enabling iCloud Private Relay in US
So with a custom dns server you are fine?

Edit: woodruffs above provided docs

gennarro··on T-Mobile begins blocking iPhone users from enabling iCloud Private Relay in US
Can someone explain how it’s possible to block this? Just stop the whole IP range from the network?
gennarro··on Iconoir – An Open-Source SVG Icons Library
Confused by this exact question. Similarly, can they be used in a closed source app or website? Where/how do you include the license?
gennarro··on RSS feeds are available for many U.S. Government collections
You can also check out sites like https://ofr.report and fccid.io which make these sorts of things a little easier to parse.
gennarro··on My Personal Note Taking Journey
Would highly recommend reconsidering paper notes. Get a small notebook [0] and write down what you need. You’ll lose it and spill coffee on it but you’ll be fine. For the vast majority of things the note writing experience is what makes the difference, not the actual paper. For the rest a subscription is not for me, but to each their own.

gennarro··on Blizzard executive asks employees to “consider the consequences” of union card
I’m all for removing direct Twitter links. Nothing good ever comes from them and almost no original content either.
gennarro··on Airworthiness Directives; General Electric Company Turbofan Engines
To credit properly: found via https://ofr.report
gennarro··on US Should Create Strategy by End of '22 to Reduce Increasing Ocean Plastic Waste
Can’t have high seas fisheries with plastic at this level https://ofr.report/pi/2021-26321/

It’s really troubling to see space trash get more concern than ocean trash given our reliance on the oceans (not to downplay the problem of near-earth collisions)

gennarro··on Every pricing page should have GIFs
Strongly agree. Clicking though these, click off to close it, and waiting for pad the gif would have me off the page in seconds. Not to mention accidental clicks.
gennarro··on Ask HN: Are there any 4K “dumb” televisions?
Not many, but this might help if you want to search for solutions like Sceptre: https://helpatmyhome.com/best-non-smart-tv/
gennarro··on Satellites Reveal Arctic Rivers are Changing Faster Than We Thought

Fisheries of the Exclusive Economic Zone Off Alaska: Atka Mackerel in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands Management Area

Pertinent, recent legislation.

gennarro··on The Next ‘Lab Leak’
Presumably people are being more careful now. Would like to see some sort of news or legislation about this but I’m sure it’s unlikely.
gennarro··on Why Are Topre Keyboards So Expensive?
Just bought some demo switches based on your tip. Thank you!
gennarro··on Why Are Topre Keyboards So Expensive?
Longtime topre user. They ruined me on all other keyboards. The best there is.
gennarro··on List of 8000 security vulnerabilities in 1200 Wi-Fi routers
Ah yes. Makes sense. Thank you
gennarro··on List of 8000 security vulnerabilities in 1200 Wi-Fi routers
This is pretty cool. What dataset is this based on?
gennarro··on Vizio makes more money spying on people who buy TVs than TVs themselves
Good clarification. Thanks!
gennarro··on Vizio makes more money spying on people who buy TVs than TVs themselves
I’d highly recommend a dumb tv. From a previous HN link: https://helpatmyhome.com/best-non-smart-tv/
gennarro··on Ask HN: Getting started with my technical blog. What to write? How to start?
Honestly, write about what interests you. Don’t try to over optimize
gennarro··on Wirecutter asks users to sit out black Friday
Just me or do you need the app to read the Reddit version? Just like Twitter. Awful.
