They used to make BD-Rs using this technology, but switched to a cheaper (supposedly not as long lasting) method without any change in branding. It was a minor scandal among datahoarders
Neither athletic nor scholastic performance are objective measures. Sports are contests of arbitrary skills, that on the highest level require time intensive and expensive commitment since basically childhood, and whatever method you choose to measure scholastic performance with it's never going to be free of class/geographic/cultural factors.
Kasparov also believes this to be true, but the last example I can recall of top level player teaming up with a computer was in 2014, when Nakamura played exhibition match with engine against Stockfish and lost 1.5/0.5, since then computers only got better. Maybe someone dedicated to playing computers could perform better, but I doubt it, since anti-computer chess haven't really been a thing outside of bullet and maybe blitz for years, now that computers search way deeper and prune better.
Am I taking food off other people's plate when I manually skip ads in podcasts I'm listening to? Do people who change channels on TV when ads start steal? Is it theft to toss ad inserts from a newspaper straight into trash?
For many devices it wouldn't be "pain in the ass", it would be straight up impossible. There are millions of devices, like smart TVs, that are out of support and don't receive updates, substantially changing API would break them. It might happen at some point, but it would piss off many people.
I feel like there might be something different or subtler at play here. I do not get spooked by scary tales, and I have never enjoyed them. But I have perfectly good visualization skills, I can "see" with my minds eye, both recalling my memories or imagining something, same goes for other senses and feelings; I can and do relate to sad/funny/inspiring etc stories, but for some reason spooky stories never clicked with me.
Arguably, the short scale, not the long scale used in Ireland is obtuse. 12 zeroes for billion and 18 zeroes for trillion, 24 for quadrillion etc is 6n where n is numerical value of Latin prefix, with short scale you've got 3n+3
Allied bombings of Germany began in 1939, the information is even present in the Wikipedia link you provided. V-2 launches against Allies started in September 1944, well after commencement of large scale strategic bombing of German cities, and the name was given to it after successful test launches, also in 1944.
It's still a good read, not only as a historical artifact, but also because many of the criticisms still apply to the spiritual descendant of Unix, Linux. It's funny to see that 20 years ago people were already complaining about X window system or Unix security philosophy.
He doesn't speak, read or write Chinese and has been caught manipulating, confabulating and straight up lying multiple times. He is a Christian fundamentalist, and has described other belief systems to Christianity as “ultimately inspired by Satan". He's also openly sexist and homophobic in unambiguously hateful ways.
The article is over 3 months old and posted now for some reason.
AWS is nowhere near big enough to be treated as utility, there are heaps of alternatives, big cloud providers (Azure, GCP, Oracle), hundreds of smaller cloud hosts, then there is self-hosting. What should be treated as utility is tier 1 networks, and I haven't heard about Level 3 or AT&T refusing to carry someones traffic.
> The small piles would have 1000 notes in them, which is easy to check in a day.
By the time you could even buy an 8-bit home computer for couple hundred dollars, store all the serial numbers on a floppy and simply search through them once per day
I think Twitter might be throttling anonymous/not logged in users. On desktop, where I'm logged in I've never had an issue with retrieving content, on mobile, where I'm not, no matter the browser, it's hit or miss (I'd estimate around 30% of the time I need to refresh)
I'd be much more interested in more obscure examples. While those billion dollar businesses origins are fascinating as trivia, more down to earth examples, of smaller, but successful companies would be great
IMO the best way to control Apple devices is KB + mouse + magic trackpad. Mouse is of course superior for precise movement such as highlighting text, but the trackpad itself is worth it just for the gestures.
I can highly recommend a book Blind Man's Bluff: The Untold Story of American Submarine Espionage, which has more information on this specific incident as well as other spy submarine stories from the Cold War
