96 is not reflecting my age, I'm in my early 30s

I'm an SWE primarily web side, though I do work in mobile too and I dabble in hardware on my spare time

Currently working in an innovation team as a hardware person but lately we've been developing agentic stuff

ge96··on Making
I'm trying to get it back. I went through a period of 2 months or so where I didn't want to do anything not even watch TV except drink. So I've been sober for a couple weeks now, think I'm starting to get it back. But I'm still lazy af right now. I miss making hardware, I design/make my own cameras and little self navigating robots. I did finally fix my camera after it rolled across the floor of my car during a tight turn and something inside it broke/wouldn't turn on. Idk... I bought so many old vintage c-mount lenses and would take each one out, produce a video, and then I lost interest doing that... so now I have a bin of random vintage c-mount lenses and a desk trinket (camera). The positive though is I got two SWE jobs out of these hardware projects. But yeah hope I get it back.

I usually do instantly lose respect when I hear some project is vibe coded... I get that's how it is now but yeah. To me when you say "I made this" but it's actually claude code that shat out the code well... ultimately though it's about money and freedom. You can do whatever you want to do, I need to get my own freedom then do what I enjoy.

ge96··on Why I am not going to buy a computer
Skimmed "write by hand or typewriter" yeah I'm not like that, I am rote based though so have to type into a computer to remember notes

Who wants to f around with a typewriter anyway I guess this guy in particular does

How you gonna blog with a typewriter

ge96··on Why I am not going to buy a computer
I like buying old flagships since I couldn't afford them like 5-10 years ago.

Still a few on my list would be neat to try like Specter 360, eventually I want one of the current newest XPS-13s

I recently got a Pixelbook for $80 running Ubuntu on that, great little device as far as thinness

Also like buying/trying out weird computers or old, like the ASUS Eee PCs or Librettos

ge96··on It's a shame what's happened to radio
I remember I had a data entry job and we were only allowed to bring in old tech like a CD player or radio. So I was listening to a local radio station and they posed the question "would you go back in time and kill Hitler" which I was like "shit I gotta call in and say my opinion".

When you say "can upload any model to it" are you talking LLM models? Surely there is a limit eg. parameters
ge96··on Is this the end of the once-mighty GoPro?
Only reason I'd choose them over Insta360 for example is that weird manual phone app permissions to activate the camera Insta does. I don't know if go pro doesn't do that, haven't bought a modern go pro in a bit.

I will say the Insta 360 Go 3S is an amazing camera physically it's so small and convenient. They could improve the algo when you pan over a pavement that conglomerate pattern looks sickening when you pan.

I wish I could get into wearing watches, PineTime Pro is in development could be fun to work on that.

I just hope this doesn't destroy the company that would suck lose their edge and then China comes in
ge96··on The Act and the Outcome of Creation
It is a great feeling when you're in the flow and just jamming making something for fun, no tests, just build it/make it. This is in the context of a personal hobby but yeah.

I lost it for a couple months (probably anhedonia from drinking) but I'm starting to get it back.

I think the fact that China is copying SpaceX's tech is a testament to SpaceX's success

There's also the bit about people talking shit about other people they're not even close to, to feel like they matter. Ahh well

Hey guys Elon Musk sucks haha high fives all around, great

ge96··on Proof of care in the age of AI
tangent rant, annoys me like "yeah senior engineer" or whatever, "yeah I can do that", puts the task into AI, puts up a dogshit PR can't explain how it works

now more than ever can fake it

ge96··on Designing and assembling my first PCB
It is unfortunate hope local companies like OSH Park get love too. The marketing of companies like JLC or pcbway whenever I post a hardware project on a website like Hackaday or Hackster always reach out to me to use em. Not that it would matter so many big makers on YT use em.

Nothing, I'm trying to get my passion back, lost it for a couple months now, not sure if it was from the binge drinking

I used to build hardware projects, write code but lately been coasting
