garycomtois··on Listers: A Glimpse into Extreme Birdwatching
For mature audiences, for nature audiences
garycomtois··on How do you make an addictive video game?
"This episode will change how you look at games. We talk to Ben Brode, the designer behind Hearthstone and Marvel Snap, about how a creative person learns to make the things they love, and about the secret ideas hiding in games as simple as rock-papers-scissors."
garycomtois··on Ask HN: Is my landing page improved?
Getting an error: "The e-mail could not be sent."
garycomtois··on I want visually distinct colors!
Funny, I had just made a 20-color palette using mokole.com. Also notice you can choose to include black or white, so you might get something similar to the result by Sasha Trubetskoy.
garycomtois··on A coat check ticket, a magic spell
It's the same object, but by a different author. That can have some importance, if limited. A Van Gogh or a fancy hand bag not made by Van Gogh or the fancy hand bag maker might be valuable, but carries a flag that says this is not authentic.
garycomtois··on 'Exercised' Explains Why It Can Be Hard to Commit to Working Out
> 1. Absolutely no soft drinks at all... Same here! For the past 10 years I have only had a Coke maybe 3 times and each time was immediately following a long run (say after a 2.5 hour+ effort).

> 3. DO NOT treat exercise as a priority... I really like this philosophy. It's more or less how I've come to treat exercise, but phrasing in this way helps to justify and find reason for the habitual act. ("You are what you repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.") Cheers to continued health!

garycomtois··on Chrome Update Impacts Some macOS Systems
From the Google employee who posted this: "If your computer is on OS X 10.11 or later and you haven’t taken steps to disable SIP, this issue cannot affect you."

To find out if your machine has SIP enabled: csrutil status

garycomtois··on Langton's Ant
I came across while reading The Science of Discworld (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Science_of_Discworld), in the chapter "Where do Rules Come From?" Learning more about the Ant was a fun little side quest.
garycomtois··on [dead]
I've felt self-conscious writing code on a plane... However no one ever noticed or cared or I guess I looked 'safe.'
garycomtois··on Ask HN: Help us find a conference for mathematics and art in the US?
Good suggestion, thanks. I'm also going to look for a local opportunities to exhibit.
garycomtois··on Project Euler has been hacked
Checking answers is possible though.
garycomtois··on Types
2+2 returning DONE is my personal favorite.
garycomtois··on Lisp as the Maxwell’s equations of software (2012)
The tiddlylisp implementation is interesting. Seeing a Lisp compiler in my usual language (Python) is helpful. If nothing else, I'm really glad I read the article since I'm giving Lisp another try (via Land of Lisp, http://landoflisp.com/) after a 9 month hiatus.
garycomtois··on Show HN: My Desk Chair
Nice chair, but what's with the modified roomba?
garycomtois··on How to know when someone is in trouble in the water
The link was for the mobile slate site. This is the non-mobile version:
