garba_dlm··on How not to hire a North Korean plant posing as a techie
yes, that's what they're doing.

because they hate North Koreans, because it's part of their government.

how this works is described in "1984" (by Orwell), which is a fictional work.... ahahahhaah

garba_dlm··on How not to hire a North Korean plant posing as a techie
still racist, it's the worst kind of racism, brother Vs brother (or possibly more accurate cousins? dunno)

for long term effects of this practice see the Gaza v. Israel fiasco

garba_dlm··on Bandcamp's Entire Union Bargaining Team Was Laid Off
publishing is no longer a business model.

the only 'business' left for people in that 'industry' is to charge rent which is taxes

garba_dlm··on Meta is banning people from advertising after running ads for Python and Pandas
sure, ok... but in some places it functions as a public utility

further, there was a principle of roman law that forbids this... then again the USA is not following those principles (civil law) but common law which means you can disregard what I say

you seem like you haven't actually read the referenced book, but only heard about it

the internet is a global network, but I suppose the telegraphs really is that old
garba_dlm··on Scientists discover links between Alzheimer's disease and gut microbiota
except our bodies already kinda do that on their own

how would killing species of gut biota would helpful? helpful for whom to accomplish what??

we're headed to a future in which you have to take special pills so that the food doesn't kill you. like the glysophate and GMOs but applied against ALL life, including humans. if this is too far fetched for you then I also hope we don't get there.

> Blockchain tech isn't 14 years old, it's 30 years old, or even 40 if you want to go back to the '82 paper. Still no world-changing tech has come from it, aside from monopoly money.

that's like saying that submarines were invented when Jules Verne wrote about them (i.e. you're wrong)

blockchain technology requires the internet, hence it cannot be older than the internet

garba_dlm··on Hallucineted CVE against Curl: someone asked Bard to find a vulnerability
my point is they're related. but i didn't explain why

and you're mistaken on the intent of gaslighting. it's intended to control

'confabulation' reflects on how that's sort of control is even possible

garba_dlm··on Hallucineted CVE against Curl: someone asked Bard to find a vulnerability
cool, the scientific name for studying gaslighting!
garba_dlm··on The U.S. Government Has $5B in Bitcoin
agree. the USD dollar is backed by the threat of violence which is how I understand what it means to be an empire; in contrast with a 'civilization' (though it seems as though empire is the early stage of civilization, it boots things up)

> Inertia is not a virtue - neither for an object, nor for a human

because inertia is unavoidable. a fact of nature, it's useless to try to judge it as good or bad; however we all do this. and after trying to do this, we all eventually learn that inertia is unrelated to virtue and that everything will be affected by inertia

is this good? or bad? is this a virtue? or a vice? good for subjects? bad for objects?

the answer is no all the way until one realizes that it doesn't matter. it'll still be inertia

garba_dlm··on The U.S. Government Has $5B in Bitcoin
> USD is backed by literally nothing. LITERALLY NOTHING.

that is not quite right. historically USD has been backed by the USA military

garba_dlm··on The U.S. Government Has $5B in Bitcoin
that can't be correct. bitcoin has too much value.

garba_dlm··on Margaret Atwood Reviews a Margaret Atwood Story by AI
I think that human memory "keeps" the next prompt by baking it into the parameters of the "neural net" (the brain) immediately

this is has gotta be somehow an analogue of dreams andor sleep andor AI hallucinations.

I think this because for many of us, to not sleep triggers hallucinations, which is the conscious experience of whatever the organic version of 'backpropagation' (training the model?) really is.

how does it make sense that this is the suspected reason?

"due process"???

but we've gotta update this now that the law will turn to software

garba_dlm··on Show HN: I built a virtual tabletop for playing Dungeons and Dragons
my suggestion is don't monetize

you already did it which in a way means it's already paid for. just donate it. open source it? set it free

but it's your choice to make.

garba_dlm··on No Fakes Act wants to protect actors and singers from unauthorized AI replicas
> You are being silly about "the law!!!", right?

I really do believe this. software will eventually change the very nature of human language and hence of human thought

I picked up this line of thought from an academic Walter J. Ong who wrote a book "Orality and literacy" in which he argues that literacy (written word) changed how we think.

so I just extend that reasoning. I think that software constitutes a larger change in humanity's thought than the printing press; but that's like my opinion man

garba_dlm··on No Fakes Act wants to protect actors and singers from unauthorized AI replicas
> little reason to expect it.

there's one huge reason to expect this: it's cheaper than real people (no salary, no royalties)

only looks expensive because it's new. but it won't stay expensive because it's all software so it has zero cost of distribution (given the internet)

> And its disruption applies to film, illustration, music, coding, writing, etc

just keep going, this stuff will disrupt THE LAW. the foundation of civilized society as we know it!!!

this goes beyond markets, markets are based upon the law!!!

garba_dlm··on EU "Chat Control" and Mandatory Client Side Scanning
but you are missing out that the solution is to keep making it inconvenient to let people use linux and other kinds of custom devices

eventually either nobody will use that, or they'll just jump the shark and outlaw such things

I know that for example in Canada, because taxes, ALL restaurants are (were?) FORCED to use a specific sets of devices else they're branded as tax-avoiders and dealt with accordingly

I've already had trouble using banking stuff under linux, I have had to cancel some cards because they became useless without a smartphone app (the real punchline is that I got a new card that's only works on a smartphone. but at least it was like this when I signed up; they didn't change how it works under my feet)

garba_dlm··on EU "Chat Control" and Mandatory Client Side Scanning
the solution, regrettably, already in motion, is (obviously) to make sure less people know anything about computers.

by these two actions combined this anti-freedom garbage (further consolidating and centralizing powers) will work effectively
