gadrfgaesgysd··on Concurrency kit – Concurrency primitives and non-blocking data structures in C
What a macro fest: https://github.com/concurrencykit/ck/blob/master/include/gcc... https://github.com/concurrencykit/ck/tree/master/include/gcc

This might not be the intention of the author, but if you want someone to use/hack with your library, please make it human-readable. Those macros reduce the amount of duplication, at the cost of legibility. At least include useful comments... /rant off

gadrfgaesgysd··on State court orders Kickstarted game creator to pay $54k for failing to deliver
That seems fair. If you promise something and fail to deliver, i.e. treat Kickstarter as a store, then you should be liable.
gadrfgaesgysd··on State court orders Kickstarted game creator to pay $54k for failing to deliver
The backers got their money back. And the defendant lost a lot more money than just the restitution. The penalty was harsh, but I don't see why it was unjust.

Do you think the plaintiffs should get more money than they deserved?

gadrfgaesgysd··on State court orders Kickstarted game creator to pay $54k for failing to deliver
At a glance the problem seems to be they didn't deliver.

If you read it, can you write a short summary of their malicious acts?

gadrfgaesgysd··on State court orders Kickstarted game creator to pay $54k for failing to deliver
If I fund a company and it fails, then I don't have any right to sue them for lost "revenue". Right?

What is the difference in the case of Kickstarter. They are a crowdfunding platform are they not?

I have seen this system abused many times. For many it is just a store. Kickstarter should have stricter rules, but why should they, the liability is on the creators and if they succeed, Kickstarter collects some percentage.

gadrfgaesgysd··on The Curse of the First-In First-Out Queue Discipline (2012) [pdf]
For example, a queue in a post office. With FIFO every member has to wait for x units, where the unit is the time to handle one member and x is the size of the queue. With LIFO, most members have to wait for 1 units, but a few members have to wait on the order of x^2.

Someone correct me if my interpretation is incorrect.

I think LIFO queue would make an interesting experiment in a real world scenario, in contrast to FIFO used almost everywhere. Just make sure there is a maximum time limit set for those who are stuck in the back of the queue. This way most members get out quickly, and a few have to wait for whatever is the maximum time limit or close to that.

Ironically the diamond industry is controlled by a few large companies inflating the price by artificially restricting availability.

Science doesn't care about 'truth', but about falsifiable explanations and predictions. This is a complete opposite of religion.

Science admits there is a lot of things we don't understand, yet religion asserts a universal explanation of everything, God.

Audience gave Schiller the exact response he wanted (notice the silence and the delayed laughter). On paper it look like Apple is giving credit to Microsoft, but the subtext is: it's a joke, don't take the sentence too seriously, and Apple is still better at productivity.

Its competitor costs between 35$ and 50$. That isn't on par.

gadrfgaesgysd··on The Tiny Town That Hates Elon Musk and His Space-X Launches
Clearly humanity benefits much more from SpaceX than from the 26 local residents. And yet it is their right to live there without restrictions and control. Why was SpaceX allowed to introduce dangerous elements( rockets that explode, chemicals ) to the vicinity of a residential area, especially since the area was there first? It doesn't seem moral and I wonder how many laws were broken( read: circumvented and bought ) in the process.

If I remember correctly, SpaceX lobbied for a law that would allow a temporary closure of the Boca Chica beach, and got it.

Thank you. I didn't think it was possible to have PixelGetColor() as the main form of navigation. Pindleskin is really easy to reach so I can totally see this working.

I have already read that last year.

Blizzard really screwed themselves( and the players ) with the Auction House.

Can you give a in-depth description of how the bots worked? You can assume the reader has good knowledge of programming, AutoIt and Diablo 2.
gadrfgaesgysd··on After selling his company to Google, this man now wants to block ad-blockers
Hyperbole.

Cookies were banned in European Union, e.i. only made available if the user agrees. Then it is up to the user to white/black list sites. The same could be made for external domains.

Most blockers already support that. It is already happening. What we need is merely making it mandatory by law.

gadrfgaesgysd··on After selling his company to Google, this man now wants to block ad-blockers
Perhaps some distinction between domains could be made.

The law should/could be interpreted in a way so that a website belongs only on a certain domain. Then access outside of it would be uninvited?

gadrfgaesgysd··on My Keyboard
Exactly. Perhaps 'B' is the reason touch typing uses that strange rule. I'm using it, but the 'B' key was still hard to reach and was causing strain. So I remapped it to the right of 'L', where there is basically an unused key( I use 'shift + ,' to get ';' ).

I want to try the layout from that keyboard[0], but I wonder if it would be a waste of time, since it would take at least a month to obtain a normal typing speed.

gadrfgaesgysd··on My Keyboard
Jobs would be proud...
gadrfgaesgysd··on My Keyboard
That layout goes against usual touch typing rules.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/29/To...

As you can see the rule for the left index finger is: 4 R F V, but the keyboard you posted suggests a layout: 6 T F C

The latter layout look appealing, and I wonder why is touch typing using the former rule, since it makes both right and left hand move on a right diagonal instead of right-right, left-left.

At a first glance none of them has any visible advantage.

gadrfgaesgysd··on My Keyboard
On a side note. I have tried typing on an tablet well after learning touch typing on a normal keyboard. I remembered Jobs' presentation and back then I believed him how easy and wonderful it is to type on a pad. It is practically impossible, even typing something as simple as an url is a pain.
gadrfgaesgysd··on The Website That Got Me Expelled
"modern website"

The text is in plain format in the source file. What does the JS add besides actually showing the text. Nothing.

In 1999 the Web had aligned text, fonts, and hyperlinks. In 2015 we need JS to do this!?

gadrfgaesgysd··on Solitary Confinement Is Cruel and All Too Common
Internet gives you a way to communicate. For some it is the main way of doing so, they function normally( more or less ), and they aren't even in prison.

It would go against their "policy" of isolating prisoners, however unsuccessful it is at rehabilitation.
