gadiyar··on Beware Management Consultants
Isn’t this the same company that had the trademark dispute with Iceland the country?

gadiyar··on Show HN: Passport Globe (See where your passport takes you)
It would be really nice if you could add options for some common visas. US Green Card holders and holders of Canadian, UK, Schengen and a few other visas get vastly greater coverage than their original passports would by themselves.
gadiyar··on KiCad 10.0.0 Release
Such a well-written release notes page. I like how someone took the time to credit people for each feature that was added.
gadiyar··on Porsche sold more electrified cars in Europe in 2025 than pure gas-powered cars
I have 1,2,6 and 8 plus part of 5 and 7 (remote lock, unlock, status and GPS tracking, heated and cooled seats) on my 4-year old Hyundai Tucson. Not expensive and a very good value for money car. Made in Alabama.
gadiyar··on Debugging BeagleBoard USB boot with a sniffer: fixing omap_loader on modern PCs
TIer here. I used to work on OMAP USB back in the day, including on the OMAP3 and this particular board. Mainly Linux drivers, so not directly on the boot behavior which was done by ROM code. Fond memories and nice to see this pop up today. I’m generally curious if Doug ever asked about the behavior on the linux-usb mailing list or elsewhere and what the response was. There were a few of us from that time that might have been able to help.
gadiyar··on Modifying an HDMI dummy plug's EDID using a Raspberry Pi
Doug, thanks for mentioning this. I didn’t realize pass-through ones existed. I’ll check out the one you have. Nice article btw.
gadiyar··on Citigroup credits account with $81tn instead of $280
This was really hilarious! And this last judgement has all of the comical history from the beginning!
gadiyar··on An E-Reader Mystery
Note that this article is related to the Nintendo e-Reader, which is an ~2002 add-on to a Nintendo GameBoy gaming device and not an e-book reader.
gadiyar··on The Toyota Prius transformed the auto industry
I think you meant gallons and not litres. At least the Prius prime seems to have a 10.6 gallon tank.
gadiyar··on Demystifying Debuggers, Part 2: The Anatomy of a Running Program
Thanks!
gadiyar··on Toyota apologizes for cheating on vehicle testing, halts production of 3 models
Weirdly two other Japanese automakers, Mazda and Honda, said the same thing: that they had been testing improperly. Maybe this was brought up by some changes at the regulatory body?
gadiyar··on Nvtop: Htop for GPUs
Thank you for this link. I've been using nvtop so far but nvitop's look seems to be exactly what I would prefer as well.
gadiyar··on Ledger
Any users of GnuCash here? Folks recommending Excel may be missing the value double-entry accounting brings.
gadiyar··on Wokwi – Simulate IoT Projects in the Browser
I first learnt of this from this YouTube video that popped up on my feed.

Worth a watch.

gadiyar··on Gooey: My take on a Rusty GUI framework
The name conflicts with a similar python module that allows one to turn any Python console program into a GUI with one line.

gadiyar··on Ask HN: How do I get invite to Lobste.rs?

gadiyar··on Ask HN: How do I get invite to Lobste.rs?
Could some kind soul please send me an invite too?
gadiyar··on Learn Wayland by writing a GUI from scratch
Nice. I'm workjng through the x86-64 asm one right now.

Could a kind soul please send me an invite to lobste.rs as well?

gadiyar··on Component Programming in D
Very interesting article. I wish it were also linked from the main dlang.org pages.
gadiyar··on iOS 17 to Include Dedicated Journaling App and Mood Tracking
A shout out to Day One (https://dayoneapp.com/). That has gotten me into the habit of Journaling for over three years now. Maybe the dedicated Apple app will be nice, but the free version of Day One is quite usable and the paid option isn't too steep if you find it useful.
gadiyar··on Pythonista 3.4 for iOS with Python 3.10 is out
Glad to see an update to Pythonista. It was beginning to look like a dead project, especially with all the spam in their forums.
gadiyar··on Ask HN: What's the best lecture series you've seen?
+1 to this. I came across this course in a past thread in HN and worked my way through the lectures around end-2020. Took me 3 months but I really enjoyed this series.
gadiyar··on Ask HN: What's the best lecture series you've seen?
Some good ones from Stephen Boyd - helped me really grok the subjects. Signals and Systems: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gPuUVYImiQ&list=PLpGHT1n4-m... Linear Dynamical Systems: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bf1264iFr-w&list=PL06960BA52...

This series on Finance Theory by Andrew Lo unfolded just during the 2007-08 crisis - so that's an added bonus as the lectures refer to ongoing events sometimes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdHlfiOAJyE&list=PLUl4u3cNGP...

gadiyar··on The Eleventh Commandment (2004)
Isn't this the real Eleventh Commandment? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Eleventh_Commandment_(no...
gadiyar··on Ask HN: One curved monitor vs. 2 or 3 non-curved for software development
3 non-curved. Easier to reorient them as needed (I have them in landscape by default most of the time but occassionally switch to portrait on one), built-in window management shortcuts, at least in Windows, to send windows to a different monitor, and snap to halves or quarters.
gadiyar··on NiteFury – An Artix-7 FPGA with its own DDR3 RAM right in your laptop
I have a couple of the ULX3S boards with a Lattice ECP5 FPGA and would highly recommend them. They also support a fully open source tool chain and have a great community. https://www.crowdsupply.com/radiona/ulx3s
gadiyar··on Ask HN: Modern Alternatives to C
Why not consider D?
gadiyar··on Ask HN: What’s a good laptop for software development at around $2k?
"I looked into the Framework laptops and so far it looks like they are still a bit beta."

I have been using one since December and it has been fairly reliable. Linux support is quite good as is the community they've built. It's also cool that the Embedded Controller firmware is public and they have some community members' threads showing how to customize it as well.

They had some teething issues with power drain from the expansion ports while suspended - an upcoming BIOS update is supposed to fix those. The battery lasts around 6 hours, so if you can live with that I would highly recommend this for your needs.

On maintaining battery life, they have a feature to limit the battery charge level to a customizable limit (usually people like to set this at 80%). Other than this, the fact that this is easily user-replaceable should help.

gadiyar··on Caldigit TS4 Thunderbolt 4 Dock Teardown
This is a very nice and detailed teardown of the popular CalDigit TS4 Thunderbolt 4 dock. (Link found via a post in the Framework community).
