g-technology··on Nicolas Cage Says the MCU 'Is Becoming a Well-Funded and Glorified WWE'
Soap opera for “men”.
g-technology··on Meta Uses A.I. Data Centers to Avoid Billions in Federal Taxes
So all these companies wanting to build data centers are pushing for approval saying they bring income and jobs to the community. Then they do everything possible to not pay any taxes and never mention that data centers require almost no staffing once they are setup and running.
g-technology··on Training a 3.8B LLM to 0.384 CORE for $998
Very much Fable 5.1 assisted. I noticed Fable 5.1 recently started outputting graphs like that used when doing LLM work.
g-technology··on Microsoft Announces Change to Xbox Cloud Gaming, Switches to Monthly Hour Limits
I traded in my Xbox series x last year after they jacked the cost of their subscriptions to get a PS5(my first Sony console in my life). With all the dumb stuff Sony is doing I was starting to wonder if I made the wrong choice, but this just reassured me. I use cloud gaming a bunch, way more than 15 hours a month because I can’t always be in front of the TV.
g-technology··on Ask HN: MacBook vs. Dedicated GPU for LLM
Around February or march I started looking into hardware options to help me start learning about training models and working with them. My budget was limited and an apple refurbished 32 gb Mac mini was far and away the best option for my budget. I wish it was faster but I can let it run 24/7 with no noise and minimal power draw. I just arrange long running tasks for when am asleep or at work. Then as a huge plus I have an awesome daily driver machine for whatever else I want to do
g-technology··on The UK's Teen Social Media Ban Is Political Theater, Not Child Safety Policy
Isn’t it normally the case when politicians in any part of the world say they need to do something for the children, it’s just theatre to cover up them doing nothing or to hide legislation with a different purpose?
g-technology··on CISA Admin Leaked AWS GovCloud Keys on GitHub
Mine too, but it was in the late 90’s and I found an open table in an access database that the school district used for grades and attendance. It listed plaintext usernames and passwords for every user in the system. I managed to use that to get to know the districts head of IT and get a summer job with them.
g-technology··on Apple Silicon costs more than OpenRouter
It all depends on use case. A local fine tuned model on a very specific use case can definitely out perform a much bigger cloud model that doesn’t have the training on your use case. But, that requires looking at the ai models as a means to end and not a Swiss Army knife that can do it all.
g-technology··on Human brain changes after first psilocybin use
I think the issue there is that the ssri dull some of the receptors that psilocybin act upon.

If you are on them, you can still get positive results, but your baseline for microdose might be higher. Be careful if try… go slow, follow proper harm reduction measures.

g-technology··on I've been waiting over a month for Anthropic to respond to my billing issue
I guess I shouldn’t feel so bad then that I have a ticket open that I keep updating every few days with how long it’s been without a response. It’s only been a few weeks.
g-technology··on SpaceX files to go public
It does when you look at it with a few less zeros… it’s like a broke person floating checks for payday loans.
g-technology··on Folk are getting dangerously attached to AI that always tells them they're right
I am working on a project right now that I just had to scrap a few weeks of work because I realized the agent was agreeing with me when it should have been saying the testing was wrong. It found positive results in many failed tests. I have had to start over with rules in place and constantly reference them when getting results to ensure it is giving me the right overview. Then I still manually validate what it shows.

So far it has helped a bunch. Many ideas I have had, have been proven wrong and alternative ideas have come up in their place. It has resulted it much better progress and improvements over the original path I was going.

g-technology··on Code has always been the easy part
Like saying putting paint on a brush and wiping it on paper is the easy part of painting.

Even with coding agents, there is still a need to understand what it’s doing, how it will interact with other systems, where bugs or edge cases will show up and many other aspects that become security risks when ignored by someone that YOLO’s their vibe coded app into production

g-technology··on SpaceX in Merger Talks with xAI
Isn’t this just a ‘rich’ person version of floating a bad check to cover last weeks payday loan?
g-technology··on Reverse Engineering keyboard firmware with Ghidra
I attempted something like this a year or two ago and wish I would have seen this blog then. I didn’t get as far and in the end I just spent the few extra $ and got a qmk compatible keyboard. So much easier to be able to remap and change things through a web browser.
g-technology··on Pocket Casts, you altered the deal, so I will alter your app
Not a good month for me and entertainment. First I drop twitch turbo because they started showing ads and their support said, it happens nothing they can do about it. Now I need a new podcast app after using Pocketcasts since 2016.

Any Suggestions for iPhone that I can easily move to from pocketcast?

g-technology··on Unlocking the Motorola G23 (and some words on Motorola)
I gave up on Moto many years ago because of their mediocre hardware and slow updates on top of short update lifetime. It is the only phone manufacturer that I have ever seen release a new version of a product with significantly worse hardware.
g-technology··on Are Levi's from Amazon different from Levi's from Levi's?
Fabric vs metal/glass/plastic

It is also easy to make thousands of identical items when your build material is solid and can’t be stretched

g-technology··on "Awful": Roku tests autoplaying ads loading before the home screen
That would be a good enough reason to drop Roku if they start doing this.
g-technology··on EA Open Sources Command and Conquer: Red Alert, along with other games
I remember just before the release of renegade, a game store by my work had an event for it and was giving out posters and had a few people from the development team there signing them. I had that poster on my wall until I moved out.
g-technology··on MapQuest's 'Name Your Own Gulf'
Interesting that emoji break it :)

Still fun

g-technology··on Canva says its new AI features justify raising subscription prices by 300%
Something I feel like I have something of value to share… My kid has a birthday coming up and wanted a unique invitation. They wanted to just use canva to make it and I was almost onboard until everything they wanted to use in it needed a subscription. So instead, I used procreate(which I only had to pay for once) on my iPad to design it and free bing account to generate a few things for it.

In the end, I didn’t have to spend anything extra and got something my kid loves and is completely unique. Overall it was a much better experience than canva and much more open.

g-technology··on Netflix Should Sell Ads
Netflix already has ads. They just don't look like normal ads because they are product placement in Netflix created content. Which I don't mind as long as it doesn't turn the show or movie into a long commercial.
g-technology··on Google doesn't want to pay Sonos for technology it copied
How does Sonos have a patent on this when Squeezebox did speaker groups before Sonos was ever a company?
