fxfan··on Developer Survey Results 2019
I understand, which is what I call FUD by the parent commenter. There is no such policy going on.
fxfan··on 2019 Stack Overflow Developer Survey Results
You can just add all the percentages and divide by that number and you'll get the number you're talking about.
fxfan··on Developer Survey Results 2019
SO has a somewhat "niche" audience- most of the MS stack has a single source of truth about documentation (and it's detailed). People using MS stack are also the people using MS SQL Server.

Btw, do you know if the MS SQL server perf analysis tools are available for linux?

fxfan··on Developer Survey Results 2019
And what would the Phase 2 of your pointless FUD be? You do realize that LSP was created by Microsoft, right? And it's pretty much the standard for language and editor integration right now.
fxfan··on Google features that Microsoft turned off in Chromium Edge
I'm betting none of those would be an 'Ad by google' in which case this is very unethical (I'm pro adblocking but google is targeting competitors)
fxfan··on Google features that Microsoft turned off in Chromium Edge
Please don't spread fud. It says replaced or turned off.

Their DRM makes Netflix 4k. Chrome already has DRM.

fxfan··on Show HN: Xmake, a modern C/C++ build utility
This looks thoughtfully created (and so documented!). I haven't gone through the entire doc and am not particularly clear but can you cross-build too? How would you run MSVC linker on Linux?
fxfan··on Microsoft says its data shows FCC reports overstate broadband adoption
In fcc's defense that's how govt counting works formally. Whether or not they are doing anything informally is a different issue.
fxfan··on All of Toyota’s electric vehicle patents are now royalty-free
Is there a guide you'd recommend for filing a patent? I have an idea that I'd like to patent. I genuinely think its very novel and my goal is to use it in my work and license it to others.
fxfan··on SpaceVim v1.1.0 released
As a vim user, please don't give the rest of us a bad name ;). You're sounding like a hippy :)
fxfan··on SpaceVim v1.1.0 released
I like your explanation of emacs and vim. Btw, neovim natively talks async using msgpack meaning plugins can be written in any language (with glue in vimscript)
fxfan··on When to Use TypeScript – A Detailed Guide Through Common Scenarios
In the following code segment, the `[:div` `[:p` et al- are the reagent or clojurescript?

```
  (defn simple-component []
    [:div
     [:p "I am a component!"]
     [:p.someclass
      "I have " [:strong "bold"]
      [:span {:style {:color "red"}} " and red "] "text."]])
```
fxfan··on Lopdf: Rust library for PDF document manipulation
You cannot even take out non-ascii strings (or search) if the PDF file had been created in a certain way. That's so 1980.

PDF is not exactly guaranteed to be portable- and is a format that needs to be dumped by anyone who cares about a global portability.

fxfan··on When to Use TypeScript – A Detailed Guide Through Common Scenarios
While your parent clarifies that he meant for backend- ill suggest trying one off bucklescript, Scala.js or elm. They are all very well done and have wide adoption actually
fxfan··on When to Use TypeScript – A Detailed Guide Through Common Scenarios
That's why there are compile-to-Js languages that see widespread adoption.

Elm, bucklescript, Scala.js to name a few.

fxfan··on Study: Two Monitors or One Ultrawide
Please pardon my comment with limited background knowledge but are you sure that TVs, with their hardware designed to make you look from far are a good idea to keep close to your eyes?

Also, where do you get 39" 4K for $300!?

fxfan··on When to Use TypeScript – A Detailed Guide Through Common Scenarios
4 of the most popular language creators here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csL8DLXGNlU agree that type systems are useful.

I would suggest definitely not using Vanilla JS. There are excellent type systems over JS, TypeScript, Scala.JS, BuckleScript to name a few each with their pros and cons (I don't know what cons BuckleScript has though, maybe relatively smaller lib-ecosystem)

fxfan··on Malicious remote code execution backdoor discovered bootstrap-sass Ruby gem
See my other comment, rust already has a decent system (unofficial)
fxfan··on Malicious remote code execution backdoor discovered bootstrap-sass Ruby gem
Rust has an effort going on (by a single unaffiliated person) to have a trust chain sort of thing per version. Cargo-cred.

I hope others copy this. This is truly scary.

fxfan··on Jerks on the Internet: what my first DDoS taught me
Does anybody have experience in getting DDOS'd? All i see are 3 ip addresses (offending) in the screenshot and it makes me wonder how many is typical?

I have never been ddos's and all I ever receive are failed ssh attempts with simple passwords. Pretty much the easiest thing to tackle. But I'd love to know from DDOS'd people how their attacks looked?

From cloudflare logs all I see is a single IP address being blocked (multiple times? Or is it their multiple actions being blocked?).

EDIT: Thanks all, these were helpful answers.!

fxfan··on Git9: Git Reimagined for the Plan 9 OS
This shows what's wrong with neo-hacker news. Actual scientific studies are downvoted and guessworks and 'anecdata' are upvoted.

Truly jumped the shark.

fxfan··on What comes after open source
Very well written article, as usual from Steve.

How's the job search going?

fxfan··on Verilator: Fast, Free Verilog HDL Simulator
And how does one get a cheap FPGA board out of it? China? Any recommendations?
fxfan··on Reducing notification permission prompt spam in Firefox
This is the reason why windows doesn't let you opt out- power users would opt out.

Case in point - jump lists were removed from start menu.

That said- why treat regular users unfairly by not optimizing for their use cases too?

fxfan··on Warp – Mobile VPN
jgrahamc can you please stop using google slave labor? You guys are smart enough and capable enough to have your own captcha system.
fxfan··on Git implemented in Rust
since you sound knowledgeable- if I go and without any contract "donate" some of my code to the repo- what becomes of the right to that code (the patch I contributed)?
fxfan··on Ask HN: I will pay you $2000 and code the MVP for your side-project
Can you clarify how much equity you want. 80% sounds too high sorry but its not very clear.
fxfan··on First government survey of hikikomori
Which country are you from and what qualifies you to criticize Japan I wonder?
fxfan··on Coc.nvim – Intellisense Engine for Vim8 and Neovim
Vim needs to come with its own package management and all languages should have a single-script which setup their features. I don't want to install 20 different packages manually and not have them work
