fraqed··on The Matrix Resurrections – Official Trailer
Some comments on YouTube have suggested that the brighter look to the Matrix is because at the end of Revolutions, Sati makes a beautiful sunrise for Neo.

Resurrections will apparently occur in the seventh version of the Matrix, the one at the end of Revolutions.

fraqed··on Condo boards everywhere are unprepared for serious repairs
Have you looked at https://www.condocommunities.com, they offer most of the features you've listed and have different packages depending on the needs of the HOA. I'm not affiliated with them just sharing my experience; my HOA started using the service recently and it's very easy to keep up to date with events in my building.

fraqed··on The Ontario government lost $42M selling cannabis in the last year
There was a change in the provincial government prior to legalization that probably contributed to this loss. The previous provincial Liberal government had planned to sell cannabis through the provincially owned liquor stores. In June 2018 they lost the election to the Conservatives, who in August 2018 decided not to sell cannabis in the government stores but through private retailers[1]. However, as this was an unexpected change the first private retailers wouldn’t be operational until April 2019 [2]. So from the time of legalization, October 17, 2018 until April 1, 2019 the only way to legally purchase cannabis in Ontario was online and by postal delivery.

fraqed··on Fallout 76 Day One Patch Is Larger Than the Game Itself
There is a recent post in the Elder Scrolls subreddit https://www.reddit.com/r/ElderScrolls/comments/9wmm98/bethes... discussing the Bethesda game engine and the following quote from Todd Howard was posted:

”I think most people that aren't making games use the word 'engine', you know, they think of 'engine' as one thing, and it's, we view it as technology, right? so there are lots of pieces, and every game, parts of that change. Whether it's the renderer, the animation system, the scripting language, the AI, the controls... so, some people talk about Gamebryo but that's, like, we haven't used that in a decade.”

”And a lot of it is, some of it is middleware, whether that's Havok animation here, and, so 76, we changed a lot of it. You know, it's an all new renderer, new lighting model, new landscape system, and then, when you go to Starfield, even more of it changes. And then Elder Scrolls 6 which is really out in the horizon, even more of that will change there.”

The quote is translated from a video interview in German here:

CBC radio had an interesting interview with Franklin Foer this past weekend. He makes that argument during the interview and presumably in his book World Without Mind.

fraqed··on Hunting for a Canadian Legend: The Avro Arrow Jet Fighter
Maybe that's why Canadians are considered so nice, because all the "hard driving" types have left the country and gone, mostly, to the US.

There is an option when you install an app to only use your Live Account for that app. This way you can still have a local account and use store apps.

fraqed··on Inside the 'Notorious' Canadian Internet Company Targeted by the US Government
Also in Canada, unlike the US, cable companies are required to allow third party resellers. So we can get either cable or DSL internet from smaller players giving us slightly more options.

Before you wipe the drive you could do a whole drive encryption with TrueCrypt or BitLocker and then use DBAN for spinning drives or Secure Erase for SSDs.

The second post (The case against Google - Court Documents) has links, to the court documents on Scribd or direct PDF downloads http://www.googlelawsuit.co.uk/google-lawsuit-legal-papers.

With respect to Google's filing perhaps the documents have not yet been made public by the court.

fraqed··on Google Reader alternatives
Here's another self-hosted option I came across in my search for a Reader replacement http://projet.idleman.fr/leed/ The site's in French but Google translate works well and it seems the developer has done good work on this project.

Thanks for the comprehensive list I now have more options to consider for a home hosted replacement.

fraqed··on Brain work may be going the way of manual work
You're quite right about the books I remember the Self-Help series for all kinds of legal documents, but they were essentially dumb. If the person using those forms made an error it probably wouldn't be caught and could be costly. Modern electronic systems have, what may be described as intelligence, though certainly not understanding, such that user error should be much less common. Also with consumer grade financial software different scenarios can be evaluated and actions suggested based on data analysis; so there's more than just UX improvements occurring in these systems.
fraqed··on Brain work may be going the way of manual work
What about legalzoom.com and similar services? All those wills, patent applications, incorporations, etc. were once performed by legal assistants, paralegals and junior lawyers. Now someone just fills in some forms and ticks off various options. Or think of online insurance quotes, tax preparation and basic accounting again mostly junior level jobs to be sure but this is only the beginning!

fraqed··on Google is about to learn a tough lesson
Google Takeout allows you to get all your data from various Google services https://www.google.com/takeout/

What surprises me most is that Microsoft, which has a severe case of Google envy hasn't created a web based RSS service of it's own. They should make an offer to buy Reader and Feedburner too, since Google seems to have little interest in supporting these products.

fraqed··on Programming from the Ground Up
In the intro the author talks about having access to a Linux box or using a live CD of Knoppix, would a virtual machine install on Windows work just as well?
