forvelin··on Malus – Clean Room as a Service
they really had an entertaining presentation in fosdem 2026 about this. bit too noisy for my taste but regardless:

forvelin··on IDF killed Gaza aid workers at point blank range in 2025 massacre: Report
why is this flagged ?
forvelin··on The special hell of Bolt, Europe's Uber clone
bolt is quite smooth experience anywhere in north europe, not sure why you had such a haunted experience. haven't been in riga airport though, in the city it was fine..
forvelin··on Introducing stronger dependencies on systemd
who does even compete with Gnome ? it is the de facto default desktop in almost all notable distros.

it just works, though it is far less customizable compared to KDE, it is far more stable -still only compared to KDE..

forvelin··on About Google Chrome's "This extension may soon no longer be supported" (2024)
regardless of what people complain of, firefox is still an awesome daily driver. nobody likes the direction the MF is taking the browser to but at least we can influence it, unlike google.
forvelin··on Svelte 5 is not JavaScript
why mithril.js was though ? it is still a solid choice.
forvelin··on 1 bug, $50k in bounties, a Zendesk backdoor
this is a horrible response. just upvoting so more people can see this mess.
forvelin··on A $10k stipend is available for anyone moving to Cumberland, MD
you got downvotes because your replies lack manners.
forvelin··on Dondurma: The Turkish ice cream eaten with a knife and fork
never heard of the 'buz' really.
forvelin··on Ask HN: Burnt out developer trying to move out of Iran, advices?
Try Canada or Australia. Also as a temporary solution you can open a bank account in Turkey or Azerbaijan and start doing some upwork.
forvelin··on Forces that fuel friendship
I think you can solely sustain a relationship with trust, lack of common interests can freeze it but does not necessarily extinguish it.
forvelin··on Asian Boss planted deep blue YouTuber and pretended he was a 'man on the street'
Nationalists for many, fascists for some. One should not evaluate Chinese civil war with European eyeglasses.
forvelin··on Turkey's Financial Crisis
istanbul does not plead for anything, ankara may though.
forvelin··on Turkey's Financial Crisis
is this unexpected ? erdogan literally buys weapons from russia as a nato member, allies with putin at every occassion and disregards any civilized values. he'd like to squeeze minorities as he wants, oppress the opposition as he wants and ally with whoever he wants. at that point, people might not want to cooperate with you, a bit of diplomacy eh ?
forvelin··on Turkey's Financial Crisis
It has nothing to do with religious beliefs, its all about gathering capital on his side. He is just abusing peoples' religious beliefs. Everybody knows the new savings scheme he introduced is essentially increasing interest rates.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not think that Erdogan will continue to mold Turkey's future. So far Turkey always had 40-50% opposition which could not unit, but now they are all united and next time it is certainly going to tip the scale in the right way. He will do everything to delay the elections or call them at the right time -like now ?- but his plans don't always work out -not far, look to recent Istanbul elections he lost.

forvelin··on Rocky Linux releases its first release candidate
We jumped off the CentOS boat after their statement and switched to OpenSuSe, no regrets so far, smooth sailing.
forvelin··on Show HN: Skruv – No-dependency, no-build, small JavaScript framework
can anybody who uses it compare it with mithril.js ?

forvelin··on An ancient engineering feat that harnessed the wind
We have been there with my girlfriend a year ago. Tehran is a fairly safe place, not that 'tourist oriented' and only seriously annoying thing was traffic as we were not expecting such time to go waste in hours of traffic jams. We intend to visit Isfahan next and hope it is better.

Food, people, museums, landmarks, stuff you find in markets and once more people are quite awesome. As soon as you look like a lost tourist, people attempt to help you 'genuinely'. They try to chat with you everywhere and show that their country is nice, unlike how they paint it in western media.

forvelin··on Palestine's unique stretchy ice cream [video]
Gum-added ice cream is something you can find around Aegean Sea -Turkish or Greek coast-. Especially around Chios and Izmir it is quite common and tasty, so you can try that out without going all the way to Palestine ;)
forvelin··on Are My Friends Really My Friends?
This seems like some sort of a epidemic, the internet infecting the way of relationship development we had for decades.

Now we know where to get jobs -job boards-, where to get relationships -tinderlike apps and bars- but we have no idea for where to find people who we click with.

forvelin··on Ask HN: End-to-end encrypted messaging app that doesn't require a phone number

forvelin··on Into the Forbidden Zone: Varosha, Ghost City of Cyprus
In the times of Cold War, Cyprus was an important base for NATO and UK therefore to keep them there with none-to-low amount of legitimacy it was beneficial to keep Cyprus somehow divided.

There are also 'conspiracy theories' that British intelligence had agenda of creating unrest intentionally on the island so they can keep the bases, but that sounds too much of 4d chess, since this unrest led into Greece leaving military part of NATO and made western alliance look shaky against USSR.

also worth reading : http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/4632080.stm

forvelin··on Into the Forbidden Zone: Varosha, Ghost City of Cyprus
Wasn't there terror attacks against British and Turkish on the island -not only on Turkish people, Greeks felt like island 'rightfully belonged to them' -? Wasn't there attempts to unite island with Greece at times by the both Greek and Cypriot nationalists ? There was a guaranteering agreement precisely for this reason and Turkey used his rights.

forvelin··on Into the Forbidden Zone: Varosha, Ghost City of Cyprus
IMHO it is just set of inept politicians not being able to negotiate properly for decades.

Also they tried to unite the island but South rejected in a UN supported referandum.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cypriot_Annan_Plan_referendums...

At this point, how can we negotiate with people who call Turkish people as cockroaches and so on, really.

Now Turkey has upperhand of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Cyprus_Water_Supply_P... for the negotiations, I hope they will use that and in next decades the island will unite.

forvelin··on Into the Forbidden Zone: Varosha, Ghost City of Cyprus
There is a nuance between first and second operations in July and August. While occupation in second operation is pretty much an over reaction, first one was quite legal and necessary from the Turkish point of view. Greek state was in a turmoil and nationalists were trying to 'get the Cyprus back'.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkish_invasion_of_Cyprus

forvelin··on Into the Forbidden Zone: Varosha, Ghost City of Cyprus
I am amazed by your arrogance, I hope you read enough about this topic and how did Turkish end up with doing the operation.

What is your opinion about why did Turkish invade the island ?

forvelin··on Into the Forbidden Zone: Varosha, Ghost City of Cyprus
Turkish never intended to use the city, actually army didn't want to push this far neither. When they were able to, they just wanted to use Varosha as a bargaining chip to keep Turkish population in north safe in the negotiations -since city was important for Greek Cypriots-

None expected negotiations would take decades.

It is sad that to see such comments on HN, maybe you should keep your such comments in 4chan only.

I wonder how fast my comments would be flagged/erased if I call other nationalities with such names.

If anyone have questions for a Turkish person for this event, can answer without going too much into politics.
