I’m sorry, but I can’t help but see this view as ultra US centric. The Israeli government wanted to strike at Iran and needed a strong ally. It’s not a ploy to set a trap for the US, which is bonkers.

Literally? Care to provide a source for that?

I bet if you ask a few Canadians, at least some will tell you that the US is adversarial to Canada.

States have interests, not hearts.

Sorry if I wasn’t clear, but by “you” I meant the United States.

My point is that the US is responsible for its actions, and can’t excuse itself by claiming to be pushed around by anyone.

Is that a reference? If so, I’m not familiar with it

Adversary, as in “wants the US to lose”?

Sorry, I don’t follow

No one pushed “you”, the most powerful empire in the world, into anything. Take responsibility for your own choices.

You used the term “us” so I’m playing along with that “us” vs. “them” state of mind.

Can’t you say that about every other country?

While the definition of Semitic people is straightforward, everyone has their own idea of what Zionism is.

You’re misusing the word “literally”
fortzi··on Erdosproblems.com Succumbs to the AI Onslaught
Are you implying that there’s always some math that AI isn’t doing? No worries, AI will do it “for you” tomorrow.
fortzi··on Erdosproblems.com Succumbs to the AI Onslaught
Maybe most people don’t find it depressing. That takes away nothing from the experience and feelings of those who do.
fortzi··on Erdosproblems.com Succumbs to the AI Onslaught
AI doing the math for us means that we are not doing the math. To people who like doing math, this is depressing.

I’m baffled every time I see people who just don’t get that.

Are you seriously making that comparison?

I was just going to say how nice it is to see the work of an actual person.

This work isn’t generated, as the author commented in the thread

Science and math breakthroughs are a great excuse to wield all this power

No one can seriously claim he doesn’t have a giant ego, but despite common belief, the president can’t and doesn’t act alone.

I don’t follow… if you publish your underdeveloped ideas, these companies will develop them for you, which is the problem
fortzi··on Bend – a language that blocks AI mistakes via proof and runs on GPUs
Natural language is ambiguous. Specifying exactly what you want in a way that is truly verifiable is the act of coding.
fortzi··on A single firm is behind OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta hacking scandals
Revised title: Provider of AI agent eval tooling has a badly configured sandbox

Sub title: Which was used by AI agent providers

But instead you get foil hat folks theorizing about foreign intelligence veterans in ties with their government scheming to look stupid.

> Companies started by Unit 8200 members always have mysterious exploits

You seem to know very few companies started by ex 8200 members to make such a bold statement.

fortzi··on A single firm is behind OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta hacking scandals
It would be naive to think that someone is doing this “to” those companies. They are not children, and they know exactly what they’re doing. They’ve repeatedly used the strategy of telling everyone how their models are too powerful to release to the public, shortly before launch. This is just another flavor of the same thing.
fortzi··on How much oil-market buffer is left?
Countries don’t have egos, they have interests. In this case, deglobalization (to an extent) and China
fortzi··on How much oil-market buffer is left?
Israel this Israel that... Not a word about how the US is in this adventure to get a grip on oil and gas shipments to China. This is just another move in the bigger play of curtailing China’s influence.

Another’s benefit to the US is that many consumers of Arab oil now has to sign years long contracts to buy oil from the US.

But sure, it’s Israel.

Edit: see US’s recent moves in the straight of Malaka and Gibraltar.

fortzi··on Your intellectual fly is open when you use an LLM to author a post (2025)
> In some sense, all programming is boilerplate expansion because computers have (until now) been unable to be programmed with anything approaching natural language.

Maybe sometimes, but not always. When you need to actually render the thing you have all kinds of micro decisions, like where to put the square, what color, how fast it spins, etc.

You might not care about the details, but maybe you do. If it spins at 10000 rpm, will you care then?

Natural language, and human communication in general, is ambiguous, and coding is in great part about disambiguation.

Sure, you can use English to disambiguate as much as needed, but wouldn’t you then end up with some yaml-like spec that wasn’t much easier to create in the first place?

fortzi··on It’s so hard to finish an idea that is not yours and is just suggested by AI
I’m sure there are many of those, but like everything, there are tiers. I’m sure we’ll get something similar in SWE, but my hope is that you’ll still be able to choose to be a high tier engineer if you wanted to

I may be mistaking, but I doubt it digs through thinking tokens of previous runs, not to mention previous sessions
