forlorn··on Ask HN: What are you reading?
The thing is you have to get used to the pace of the book resembling the pace of monastery life.
forlorn··on Mathematicians want proof OpenAI didn't use their work
Yeah, especially while Kimi, Deepseek, Qwen etc release everything as open source.
forlorn··on Mathematicians want proof OpenAI didn't use their work
Why are people so possessive? Why wouldn't they just release their work for the profit of humanity? I'm genuinely curious.
forlorn··on Inside Colombia's Cocaine Factories
hmmm, this article copy renders broken to me
forlorn··on Qwen 3.8 27B available on Cerebras at 1500 tokens/s
Is Kimi 3 available anywhere like that?
forlorn··on Gemini 3.8 Flash and 3.8 Flash Cyber
I tried similar travelling tasks but also added transportation and complex transfers (train, bus, walk, next train...). Worked meh and still a difficult thing to do for a llm.
forlorn··on Your 'app' could have been a webpage (so I fixed it for you)
They want apps so they could fingerprint your device, spy on you and get a lot more information than a web app.
forlorn··on Show HN: HackerNows – Native iOS HN Client
Why does any?
forlorn··on GitHub Is Down
Ah, here we go again. A weekly (daily?) github is down thread
forlorn··on Freelang – a Libc-free, direct sys/kernel call language with weird concurrency

  op describe {name, role} (
    print "user: " + name + " (" + role + ")";
  )
Strange choice of brackets usage
forlorn··on Alan.app – Add a Border to macOS Active Window
Thank you. Each time I see an app that does the smallest change possible (and it's a MacOS-only thing by the way) I think to myself: Does it have to be an APP?

Not a script, not a configuration, but an actual app that occupies space and RAM and does just that? How had somebody come to this weird idea that everything is an APP?

forlorn··on Known Bad Email Clients
Thunderbird has reportedly added experimental Exchange support in 140. Though I haven't figured out how to enable and test it :)
forlorn··on Ask HN: Did you encounter any leap year bugs today?
Uniting time zones in Kazakhstan today looks like more of a headache, at least to me.
forlorn··on Ask HN: Sites like HN on other topics?
https://lobste.rs/
forlorn··on AdNauseam: uBlock Origin fork silently clicking ads on behalf of users
The sites could track your mouse position and compare it to the position of the element activated now (clicked).
forlorn··on CDE 2.5.1
Coincidentally CDE dropped its support in this very release.
forlorn··on Why did Airbnb dump React Native? (2021)
> Now, one resort for them would be to use Airbnb’s web application on the web browsers of their phones, which doesn’t make much sense.

I never understood why one needs 20 separate apps (100 Mb each) instead of just using a single standard pre-installed web browser. Mobile UI everywhere is fine and functionality is the same.

forlorn··on Deluge BitTorrent Client
Nothing against it but I always wonder what leads to posting a link to a website out of the blue sky. No news, no releases, just a link to a frontpage.
forlorn··on Tell HN: Reddit does not allow comments post via old.reddit.com
I have 'Use new Reddit as my default experience' under Preferences unchecked. My reddit appearance is the old one, everything works fine.
forlorn··on Steam: Half-Life 2 Hardware Survey (2004)
Good old S3 ProSavage VGA, sweet memories...
forlorn··on If you speak Russian, call Russia and tell them what is happening in Ukraine
I don't think there is much one can do on their own. Even our relatives can't help because most countries closed their borders and aerospace and tech firms are not inclined to hire Russians right now. I for one could not get any kind of ways to evacuate.
forlorn··on Russian forces invade Ukraine after Putin orders attack
People really fear war and economic sanctions, everyone around me are watching live currency exchange quotes and stock markets. Noboby around me supports the invasion or even understands why it's happening. It's like an abbyss between the head of the state and the people. Can't say for everyone of course.
forlorn··on Russian forces invade Ukraine after Putin orders attack
These are laughable numbers, trust me. It's the opposite in reality.
forlorn··on Russian forces invade Ukraine after Putin orders attack
Stay safe, brother, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I'm Russian and wholeheartedly despise this outrageous war crime act of our so-called government.
forlorn··on Try Clojure – An interactive tutorial in the browser
Do I need to have a somewhat decent knowledge of Java to plunge into Clojure right away?
forlorn··on Last Windows 11 update changed all default browser settings to Edge
Fedora rocks, totally. I've never exprienced smoother upgrades in my life and I did every upgrade from F28 to F35 now. The most stable distro out there and boy I tried a lot of them.
forlorn··on Elementary OS 6.1
Unfortunately Elementary's devs are too busy finding the right shades for the dark theme so there is no time left for your marginal features. These problems and bugs are not tackled for years.
forlorn··on Étoilé on Gnustep
Not 'dead' dead according to Github activity https://github.com/etoile/
forlorn··on Austria makes Covid19 vaccination mandatory as of Feb 2022
Maybe some of them are mandatory for a child after birth (though I question it because anyway doctors should get parent's signature to do it). But how could you force an adult who is totally ok with lockdown? Cut all access to basic necessities? Make police involved? How?
forlorn··on The OBS project has accused Streamlabs of copying their name and trademark
The first thing I thought of. Apparently not.
