> anyone who would actually watch a 2hr movie the very next day after watching it in the first place

Kids.

Also, people who fall asleep watching TV. Some people share a profile.

fmorel··on Hacker News RSS
> Eventually I learned that hnrss has a flag to make the comments the primary link. I switched to that, and no more problem.

This has been my only annoyance with the HN RSS feed. I'm so glad to have learned about this.

fmorel··on I’m an ICU Doctor and I Can't Believe What Unvaccinated Patients Are Saying
I'm prone to fainting when needles are involved, and I fainted at the pharmacy after my first shot. I still got my second one later. It's worth it.
fmorel··on IntelliJ IDEA 2021.1
Why? It's meant for pair programming and has already been done as "Live Share" in Visual Studio / Visual Studio Code. It's a way to work together in only what you give the guest access to.
fmorel··on Firefox 87 introduces SmartBlock for Private Browsing
Gmail made changes years ago to proxy images to prevent leaking info like this.

fmorel··on Git filter-repo: much easier/faster alternative to filter-branch
I used this earlier this year to split a monorepo into a submodule + 4 other repos. It made it incredibly easy to rewrite history to move files going to different repos, then remove the history of any files not staying in a particular repo.

And it was fast. Also, being able to pass in files containing rewrite rules allowed me to easily do multiple dry-runs of the code split ahead of time so I was able to minimize the code freeze for our team.

fmorel··on An introduction to RabbitMQ
If you're using RabbitMQ on .Net, I highly recommend using NserviceBus. It's made working with queues so easy. It handles maintaining a connection and retrying/acknowledging messages for you.
fmorel··on Android Pie SDK is now more Kotlin-friendly
Yes, you can still support older versions. But the app must target at least Oreo, which means supporting the new permission model on newer versions of Android while making use of unfettered access on older versions.
fmorel··on Starbucks Frappuccino Sales Tell a Troubling Tale
I bring caffeine pills with me now when I travel so I don't have to go out for my daily coffee. But I enjoy brewing my own coffee at home.
fmorel··on Google updates Docs, Sheets and Slides with new collaboration features
There are "Team Drives" now which give a shared file/folder structure to files shared between a team of people.
fmorel··on Unroll.me
Plenty of agencies on services like Google Apps for Government.
fmorel··on Amazon Argues Alexa Speech Protected By First Amendment In Murder Trial Fight
When it's triggered, Amazon stores recordings of every command. You can then play that back, and tell Amazon whether it heard you correctly.

I've used this several times to figure out items on my shopping list where it misheard me.

fmorel··on Chrome Widevine DRM can no longer be disabled
No. If you click on Secure, the popup has a link to the Security panel.
fmorel··on Chrome Widevine DRM can no longer be disabled

fmorel··on The People's Code
From https://analytics.usa.gov/#explanation it sounds like it just happens to use Google Analytics at the moment, but could switch in the future.
fmorel··on Google Calendar for Android: Find a time for my meeting
The web app already has this feature, and also got the reminders feature. I kinda don't want a refresh - I like the current high information density.
fmorel··on Introducing Kindle Oasis
You can buy the upgrade afterwards like the other Kindles.
fmorel··on Introducing Kindle Oasis
Every preview I've read mentions that it's "reversible" and works held in either direction.
fmorel··on Amazon bans the sale of rogue USB-C cables
I get some all the time, but I live in a house in the suburbs. Honestly, I prefer USPS over Lasership.
fmorel··on State of Bootstrap 4 vs. Foundation
Some have alternative implementations of their JavaScript components, like the multiple versions of Angular BootStrap modules.
fmorel··on Gravity Basics for Sci-Fi Authors
Aside from the simplified sphere of influence that objects have (gravity up to radius, then nothing). But I agree, KSP teaches you a lot about motion.
fmorel··on Google ordered to remove links to stories about Google removing links to stories
I would prefer that society realize people make mistakes and/or change, and allow others a second chance. Then we wouldn't need the right to be forgotten.
fmorel··on A Miserable Debt-Free Life
Vanguard's Target Retirement funds are great for this. I make automatic monthly contributions and never worry about rebalancing.
fmorel··on Bringing Intel Xeon to notebook PCs
Maybe we haven't had a Surface Pro 4 yet because it was waiting for this? I'm hoping there's a SP4 and that it uses Skylake.

fmorel··on Underscore and Lodash Merge Thread
I don't get why people don't just subscribe to the issue instead of +1. Google's issue trackers have the same issue: they support starring but people insist on doing "me too" posts.
fmorel··on Three.js – JavaScript 3D library
I didn't.
fmorel··on Google will eventually open the Google Now API to app developers

fmorel··on Movement to get rid of Adobe Flash started 3 years ago. Flash is still alive
Mozilla is working on it: http://mozilla.github.io/shumway/

I think it's for mobile first where Flash is no longer available.
