fluxsauce··on Show HN: JournalJerk – In 2017, keep a journal—or else
The word privacy does not appear anywhere on the site. Nope.
fluxsauce··on Pokemon Go probably didn't make its users more active
I hear that. The local shopping plaza was filled late into the night with teens and adults playing; that went on for almost a month. Now, occasionally, I'll see someone driving and playing it, which defeats the exercise portion and is absolutely a danger to those around them. I have some acquaintances who play it on their commutes as an idle filler, but that's about it.
fluxsauce··on DoomRL Open Source Release
The animation system uses tweening and will respond to queued actions, so you can give sequential commands faster than it renders and get more interesting animations. It's still a RL and you can take as long as you want per command.

http://www.roguelikeradio.com/2016/11/episode-130-jupiter-he... is a really neat interview that explores the genesis and production of the project and goes into the visuals and philosophy. It was also written before the TM concern.

fluxsauce··on Private Porn Shoots
Well, if you live in California, Proposition 60 is an important issue this election.

fluxsauce··on Korg Monologue – Monophonic Analogue Synthesizer
Artirua's been doing this for a few years, including their Brute lineup; the MiniBrute and the MatrixBrute would be the closest comparison. https://www.arturia.com/products
fluxsauce··on The bizarre role reversal of Apple and Microsoft
Sure, and that's part of the joke. It's also an IT Crowd reference.
fluxsauce··on Apple Sucks Now, Here’s a ThinkPad Buyer’s Guide
Edit - never mind, found it. Dell has some dead links.

I've been keeping an eye on the XPS 13, but it looks like the "Developer Edition" has gone away. Do you know what the current equivalent is?

fluxsauce··on The bizarre role reversal of Apple and Microsoft
> M$FT

I'm sorry, are you from the past?

fluxsauce··on AMP Is What HTML Should Have Been
> Why should I keep updating my CSS when I change the photo?

They're talking about the HTML image attributes so layout placeholders can be rendered, not CSS. The original height and width should be specified and styling can optionally be applied in CSS.

fluxsauce··on Drupal Contrib – Highly Critical – Remote Code Execution PSA-2016-001
Drupal has a built-in update mechanism and it's been around for years. Administrators receive update notifications via email, they're surfaced in the status page, and there's a site-wide admin notification on every page when there's a security release available.

You can update both core and modules (similar to plugins for WordPress) using the web interface, which is included with core, or use a command-line utilities like Drush for Drupal 7, or Composer in Drupal 8.

There's lots of very valid reasons to be critical of Drupal, but:

> Drupal is exceptionally bad at this.

I don't think that's accurate.

fluxsauce··on Drupal Contrib – Highly Critical – Remote Code Execution PSA-2016-001
The audacity of having a system for secure reporting of security issues, with the follow-through on fix development and mitigation, release coordination and announcements, and transparency? That's an asinine reason to "ban" it.
fluxsauce··on What are “actual pictures” of atoms actually pictures of?
> This technology has been around for decades and, like the advent of the synth, has given rise to all manner of jackassery.

What's with the synthesizer hate? That seems random.

fluxsauce··on Duffy and Cruz Introduce the Protecting Internet Freedom Act
> The Protecting Internet Freedom Act would also ensure that the United States maintains sole ownership of the .gov and .mil top-level domains, which are vital to national security.

Why? Because of hard-coded logic around those TLDs? Or is to establish that the US Military is always the top domain so canada.mil doesn't become a thing?

fluxsauce··on Microsoft uses malware tactics to foist Windows 10 on more PCs
There's a difference between security and stability updates and major version changes.

I have no compelling reason to upgrade my Windows 7 machine to Windows 10; 7 performs all the tasks I need it to. I do not trust the privacy changes in Windows 10, which is more reason for me not to upgrade.

I've disabled the Windows 10 upgrade path, but otherwise keep it up-to-date on all patches.

What do I do when Windows 7 support ends? I'll cross that bridge when I get to it... but that bridge won't be to Windows 10.

fluxsauce··on Valve’s SteamOS now supports Vulkan
OT, but that site is a giant scam and the content is literally copied and pasted from a different site - http://www.pcworld.com/article/3035020/linux/valves-steamos-...
fluxsauce··on Show HN: Ponzi.es – Startup sticker ponzi scheme
Well, in this case visit their website :-)
fluxsauce··on Show HN: Ponzi.es – Startup sticker ponzi scheme
Just socks, maybe the $10 bills were stolen ;-)

A transient mailing of discrete paper cash is different than a call-to-action requesting coins that will be delivered to the same address on a regular basis.

fluxsauce··on Show HN: Ponzi.es – Startup sticker ponzi scheme
If a particular address was known to consistently receive cash in the mail, wouldn't that make it a target of theft?

As someone who lives in the Bay Area and has seen car windows smashed for the change in the cupholder and a friend's motorcycle knocked over to get the flattened soda can that was being used as a stabilizer, yes, that's a security concern.

fluxsauce··on Show HN: Ponzi.es – Startup sticker ponzi scheme
Mailing physical cash? Because it's a security concern? (theft)
fluxsauce··on Show HN: Ponzi.es – Startup sticker ponzi scheme
In case anyone was curious, mailing cash is legal according to this Snopes Article - www.snopes.com/legal/postal/sendcash.asp

Can't find a current USPS FAQ, though.

That's a very cool piece of work! I recorded a brief demo using a MIDI controller - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZU8FE9xLBdM and the lack of latency is fantastic.

Question - is it possible to do polyphonic sounds?
