fikama··on Have attention spans been declining?
I know that HN is maybe not a place for such comments, but I strongly belive we need to make "attention span overflow" a thing
fikama··on The businessmen broke Hollywood
Chromium on Android has this problem too, so it can be a chromium problem. On the other hand safari reader mode works flawlessly
fikama··on Wearable device that records your voice for legal defense
I don't know why but its blocked at android level (I have no idea of IOS situation).

"Google has been slowly deprecating and removing APIs that enable call recording over several Android versions. The company does this in the name of privacy and security and also because call recording laws are so varied across different countries."

fikama··on A ‘lost world’ of early microbes thrived one billion years ago
it may not share common ancestor, but from your comment I assume it could reproduce with earth based counterpart. Thus it would be considered by the most popular definition to be the same species.
fikama··on Dell Latitude 5411: the Linux compatibility sweet spot
I am a happy user of hp pavilion Aero 13 on Fedora Linux, to add one more laptop to the list
fikama··on Sold a Story: How Teaching Kids to Read Went So Wrong
Your example sentence was incredibly hard to read for me. To be fair English isn't my primary language. But still, I think it could be that different people read in different ways, so some depend more on context than others, etc.
fikama··on New Chrome features to save battery and make browsing smoother
I am not sure I understand. Mozilla is more dependent on those 400M than apple on 10-15B so (hypothetically) they are more willing to please Google or at least not to disturb them much, than Apple. So, purely from revenue pov Firefox is nearly as much concerned about google's bussiness as google is.
fikama··on New Chrome features to save battery and make browsing smoother
Isn't the main source of revenue for Mozilla Google? So what is the difference in their incentives from a revenue pov?
fikama··on New Chrome features to save battery and make browsing smoother
You check laptop offerings in one of the most wealthy countries on earth - and given that you still found devices with 4GB of ram is concerning for me. I feel like better support for 2gb devices could be life-changing for many people around the world.
fikama··on The Constitution of Athens
It requires login and password :'(
fikama··on KDE beats macOS
I am glad that you are content with iPhone, and that it works for you. - It's what really matters. But I just want to point out that the latest nexus phone is from 2015 and iPhone 8 was released in 2017.
fikama··on Show HN: Rethinking Tabs in Firefox
Sounds incredibly cool, to be honest I am a vim guy, but still is it your own script, is there any repo, can you share it? Also I was't aware that firefox stores open tabs in SQLite, can you point me what to type in Google to read more about it?
fikama··on Thunderbird Supernova Preview: The New Calendar Design
I am not sure if you aware but Thunderbird was indeed droped by mozilla and now it is independent project, with quite a lot money from donations so they seem to be good for the future
fikama··on Are You Ready for the Internet? (1994) [video]
Becouse Netflix is not from China (I heard that chinese tiktok has exactly this option) - just a fun fact
fikama··on Ask HN: What interesting problems are you working on?
I like it so much, reading your comment make exited to reading your blogpost. In moments like this I wish there was sth in hacker news that would allow tracking progress of e.g. your project. In twitter you can just follow people, reddit has remindme thing.
fikama··on Evolving my note-taking processes
Logseq, it has journal built in, and it supports tags, it may be an overkill though
fikama··on A New Test for an Old Theory About Dreams
I am always amazed by how realistic dreams can be. I have this thought that the brain simply could make us believe that they are realistic. I mean something similar when the ,giraffe-elephant hybrid in the tuxedo reading book, in dreams seems normal. Wouldn't it be possible for the brain to just fool us about the realism of our dreams?

On the other hand, the brain generates everything that we perceive in real life what prevents it from achieving the same level of realism in dreams?

fikama··on Instagram, TikTok, and the Three Trends
I belive it was tiktok of wendover productions guy (or one them, idk), he said there, that making a typos in videos is one another method of generating views on yt, becouse people likes to point the mistake in comments. And comments generate engagement so yt promotes that video
fikama··on SQLite Internals: Pages and B-trees

fikama··on Hwatch: A modern alternative to the watch command
I have encountered this command lately. Maybe I should just google it, but if you could share some of those various reasons I would be grateful
fikama··on Privacy preserving attribution for advertising
> Before anybody jumps in and yells about how Mozilla is worse than Google, let me point out that Firefox is still objectively the best browser to use for privacy right now.

So I will be that "anybody". On what do you base your opinion about firefox privacy? Because I reading across the web have got another impression, for example, https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/abstract/document/9374407

fikama··on If it were my home
Yep unemployment rates for Poland are also outdated. Ans source links follow to 404. It's pity becouse I really like the idea.
fikama··on Playwright: Automate Chromium, WebKit and Firefox
From what I know puppeter works only with chromium, this could be deal breaker for microsoft
fikama··on Yet another hot take on “folders versus tags”
I am not the author of the previous comment so my view could be different. But I have thought about it. With tags, you could have got one note in multiple directories. Imagine I have found an interesting blog post on HN about SQLite in python. It could be problematic to decide is it more about python of Sqlite? Tags could look like this:

python, databases, SQL, SQLite, $date, FromHN, beautiful_site (I liked the look of this blog)

or in proposed system

/IT/Databases/SQL/Sqlite /IT/Python/libraries/SQLite /IntrestingHNposts/2022/July /beutiful_site

the difference between "just folders" and the proposed system is that you could have one note in multiple folders. Which gives you more flexibility in assigning notes to its topics. But it is still more structural than tags which could easily turn into an unpenetrable list of random words.

To be fair you could also achieve it with symlinks.

fikama··on GPS
I like this idea much also I would say that Ben Eater also deserve such a prize if one will exists
fikama··on Assembly Nights
> Lynx is one of the worst text-only browsers, IMHO.

What are you using then? I didn't like the "bloatedness" of the modern web. So I often use browser "reader mode". But I would happily try something different.

fikama··on Ask HN: What kind of online tools are you using, missing or can be improved?
Agree this is one of the reasons why I like command line. This and scripting are one of the biggest problems of GUI for me
fikama··on Ask HN: What kind of online tools are you using, missing or can be improved?
What do you mean by "document-oriented google Sheets" - could you specify? I'm curious
fikama··on Ask HN: What kind of online tools are you using, missing or can be improved?
There is a feature in chrome named "link to highlight" which allows you to copy a link to a highlighted text in the given website. It wouldn't fully replace "progressive bookmarks" but I found it helpful.
