figurify··on Live smarter with habits & software.
Impressive visual design and extensive copywriting in the promo parts of the app. The idea is heavily tried and a very busy market i should say. Best of luck then to the dev(s)
figurify··on Ask HN: Would you use a site for meeting programmers at Starbucks?
no
figurify··on Introducing Embedded Posts - Facebook
Facebook is leaving its comfort zone. Pretty brave move
figurify··on Properly configure Google Apps' Gmail and get rid of "via"
one of the most annoying things in history kinda sorta relieved
figurify··on Growth Hacking Notes
The fact that you haven't been noticed yet doesn't make this an acceptable method. Basically the article is all about gaming the social networks and getting away with it in favor of publicity for your product or service. I don't think anyone can go very far with such dodgy methods
figurify··on Pajama.js - because HTML has no place in your Javascript app
when everyone is trying to do the opposite (remove js from your html so that both are mean, see angularjs and similar), this one is extraordinary. I believe it has a fundamental flaw though. If someone is comfortable with this level of js, then she wouldn't bother probably having them inter-mixed. On the other hand for those who don't like a high doze js in their lives, this looks even scarier. So I think, it is not a niche but a deserting island market segment to aim for. Still, who am i to judge, all the luck to the maintainers
figurify··on I’m Tired Of Companies Ripping off our site, So I’m Calling Them Out
One actually gives birth to the other...
figurify··on Show HN: hint.css – a tooltip library in CSS
brilliant... i always hated adding weirdo js for such standard tasks, polluting the content with meta-code/meta-content ugliness!
figurify··on Odd Practices in Java
Odd stuff are a part of Java in all levels.. But being a seasoned java guy, i can say that you don't need to bear the ugliness. You can just get the plethora of high quality libraries and all the good JVM performance and reject the weird AbstractSomethingFactoryLocatorFactoryBean shit...
figurify··on BlackBerry 10 Live Webcast
Having developed for BB before, I cannot tell how bad their toolchain and libraries and HW/SW protocol layers are. I highly doubt that they can fix all these in one big fat major release. Considering the fact that RIM is bleeding, this may be their one and only chance though. Good luck RIM, it is always good to have more options in the market...
figurify··on The Blimp Tech Stack: Frontend
REST API bound simplistic and stateless frontends are easier said than done. Does anyone know a DRY way of achieving this. I like the AngularJS approach of keeping state(of DOM - a.k.a what the user sees) and let it flow. But still, as a Javascript noob, every library seems messy and unworkable :(

Any advice on this?

figurify··on The difference between simplicity and minimalism
It's a lot like coding... YAGNI and KISS are the first things i teach new coders. Otherwise the burden they carry gets heavier and heavier as they add new languages or technologies to their arsenal. You wouldn't believe how many people lack this very simplistic understanding!
figurify··on Treadmill desks: How practical are they?
I am experimenting with a standup desk these days. It seems like i move more, leave my desk have a couple of steps every now and then. And this helps me think. Like think out of the box, the context or the distractions attached to it.

That's the biggest advantage of not sitting. I highly doubt that a threadmill can provide me this huge productivity boost...

figurify··on Do What You Love? Screw That
There is a subtle line there between what you actually love, and what is practical to be worked on. I am not saying they cannot coincide, but they are rarely so.

What one can try to achieve is a transition from one to another. That's why hackers are in big advantage these days. They can build stuff which can make money to fund the stuff they love doing... Struggling is always bad, but struggling on stuff you love would make it even worse. Don't let that happen...
