I stopped reading it because it was very clear that his ego is still giant. And it's not surprising that the Steam circus has some of the same ego issues.

And there's short term winning and long term winning. You can win short term as a founder and screw things up long term.

and coincidentally both are dutch :)

That shirt is a metaphorical representation of Perl's visual style.

Guido van Rossum would wear this shirt: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_zqFoq3qej2c/SJM4eDsnzII/AAAAAAAAR8...

Software defined radio maybe?

Also, if you had a small motherboard with mini-pcie, this could be an interesting add on to offload processing to?

...and irix at the other end of the spectrum.

Python scripting too.

Is there a now paywall version around?

Forgot to mention... in talking with NASA about deploying cameras on the space station, the issue being able to fix pixel death by gamma ray is more relevant. Water is apparently one defense against it but not so practical. How much water would you need?

On CCD/CMOS sensors it can happen enough to be visible as dead columns or pixels. Pixels can be calibrated out.

Most notably, gamma rays killing columns was the suspected cause of dead columns while filming Superman a few years back. As a result, cameras were shipped by ship rather than air to minimize this happening ( a bit of a reactionary tale to this particular incident and not generally what happens).

This cool factor tradeoff works for a little while early on but once it ceases to be the inherently cool, it turns into large and manufactured cool. Simultaneously, that's when it also becomes a toxic work environment.

Understated: Parents should get on minecraft with their kids. It's very useful as a family team building and can also encourage leadership if you let the kids be the boss of you in the virtual world.

It's also great if you're traveling to get on minecraft together to have fun instead of a short phone conversation. (it also works well for divorced parents)

Grep was my google in the old days.

I kept a library of code I liked or found useful. For example, a bunch of nicely written code on SGI's that came free by guys like Paul Haeberli was quite useful say if looking for opengl examples.

sometimes people don't look at the prices and just order what they want. i can't remember the last time i cared what a burger or burrito cost. i order what i feel like eating.

Drop the cutoff system completely or partially. The top scoring students aren't necessarily all the students you want.Quite often the gems are hidden throughout the spectrum. Selective breeding for people good at grades and tests isn't going to get you the people with the most potential for the future.

In Korea Town in Los Angeles, you can call a double taxi. One driver comes and drives you and your car home, while the other car follows to take the 1st driver home.

It's also a camera: http://www.arri.com/camera/alexa/

I have lots of options from various startups over the past 15 years. IPOs that got pulled, owners that refused to sell when they had the chance, bad management choices, etc.

Options are the equivalent of lottery tickets. Great if you number comes up, recycling if they dont.

Agreed, being able to read and reconstruct models from OPC (other peoples code) is such a big piece of coding but hardly ever a part of the interview process.

(OPC also refers to one's own code that when you can't remember wtf you did and the comments aren't useful)

Cleverly played by Apple and Swift to force Spotify into the bad guy spot.

Seems like you trade one problem for maybe a slightly lesser one... if the inside is wet, you still have to open it in the rain and thusly getting the dry side wet (but maybe not as wet).

Under almost all other circumstances, photographers own the rights to their work.

No OP also... I was about 1-1.5 lbs a day once you get past the first 3 days.

Another method I've done is a net-zero where I eat say 600 calories and run a few miles so there's not as much muscle loss.

Water and tea.

I've done 3, 5, 11 and 20 day fasts. The first 3 days are the hardest but once you get over that hump it's pretty easy. The senses heighten and you become very alert (when you're not napping).

I haven't done it in a while because you need to free to nap whenever you feel like it.

3 months seems long enough to be suspect. What other apple services have had that long of a free intro period?

VRBO also before airbnb.

Coronado CA also has a 30day minimum.

It's an odd situation because there are very few hotel rooms in manhattan beach to begin with.

Alias had a big impact in auto design. You could almost tell back then which cars were designed in Alias (later Alias AutoStudio).

I started 0MQ last year and the documentation was quite a pleasure to read and the whole thing has been great so far.
