fermentation··on Kirkland Roundabouts
I love roundabouts. I have no clue what on Earth compelled them to design the 85th st interchange this way, but they took maybe the most dangerous intersection I have ever seen and made it maybe twice as dangerous.
fermentation··on The Classic American Diner
This is incredible. For only $380k I can have someone ship me a diner.
fermentation··on SpaceX files to go public
This is absolutely vile. The xAi merger made no sense and this is forcing working class people into purchasing risky assets from a known scammer.
fermentation··on Claude Code's source code has been leaked via a map file in their NPM registry
This is claude writing code for itself. It talks like this to itself when you ask it to make prompts.
fermentation··on Claude Code's source code has been leaked via a map file in their NPM registry
Seriously, this just seems to reward poor behavior on Anthropic's part.
fermentation··on Day 1 of ARC-AGI-3
Right, fair, but look at the prompt. For the purpose of testing general intelligence, this seems kind of pointless.
fermentation··on Windows native app development is a mess
Except this requires you to own a business for 3+ years, which makes it a non-starter for indie apps.
fermentation··on Windows native app development is a mess
The Windows code signing experience has prevented me from shipping apps that otherwise run perfectly fine on the platform. It is a nightmare and I cannot believe it wasn't called out in the "We want to fix Windows" blog post.

Just do exactly what Apple does. Charge me $100 directly from you and let me build an .exe that I can distribute on my website.

fermentation··on I'm OK being left behind, thanks
There's really no need to be "early" for something like this. I've seen coworkers who've never used agentic coding pick it up and know everything that need to in ~2 days. The people who really dive in and are running orchestrated agents overnight are in general not building much of real value.
fermentation··on Meta Horizon Worlds on Meta Quest is being discontinued
They rebuilt half of their company around this thing and countless people saw promotions all around.
fermentation··on Meta’s renewed commitment to jemalloc
Seems like they’d want to wait to commit until after the layoffs, right?
fermentation··on Anthropic raises $30B in Series G funding at $380B post-money valuation
Couldn’t their excellent model and coding experience generate another excellent coding CLI tool?
fermentation··on Eat Real Food
While I despise this administration, as a celiac I’m very hopeful for any cultural shift away from grains. People truly do not realize how often they will reach for some processed bread for nearly every single meal.
fermentation··on Meta exposé author faces $50k fine per breach of non-disparagement agreement
Do you think we'd be reading the story if it were on some random blog?

Actually, WE might. But my mom wouldn't.

fermentation··on How do I get into the game industry
Grinding leetcode and learning art seem at odds here. If you're a dev grinding leetcode, you'd likely be working in AAA where your time would be wasted making assets.
fermentation··on Instapaper Rakuten Kobo Integration
Between the two I honestly did not expect Instapaper surviving longer
fermentation··on Windsurf employee #2: I was given a payout of only 1% what my shares where worth
I often see job postings here looking for "top <1% engineer talent" paying $100k and <1% equity and I wonder who is actually applying.
fermentation··on Grok 4 Heavy Protects it's System prompt
> You are over-indexing on an employee pushing a change to the prompt that they thought would help without asking anyone at the company for confirmation.

If it is that easy to slip fascist beliefs into critical infrastructure, then why would you want to protect against a public defense mechanism to identify this? These people clearly do not deserve the benefit of the doubt and we should recognize this before relying on these tools in any capacity.

fermentation··on LeetCode for System Design
How will this not simply encourage hiring managers to include more and more ridiculous system design questions? Prior to the popularity of leetcode, it wasn’t expected to solve a leetcode hard
fermentation··on Jemalloc Postmortem
A job is a job
fermentation··on Gemini-2.5-pro-preview-06-05
Is there a reason not to just use the API through openrouter or something?
fermentation··on A South Korean grand master on the art of the perfect soy sauce
Once I had to switch to tamari due to a celiac diagnosis, I found it was one of the few things that actually tastes better without gluten. I think most of the world would enjoy soy sauce made without wheat more if they tried it.

Also, most soy sauce in Japan absolutely has wheat unfortunately.

fermentation··on Ask HN: Why is there no P2P streaming protocol like BitTorrent?
Part of this was the fact you needed a pretty decent connection speed and that the files themselves were extremely compressed
fermentation··on DOGE has 'god mode' access to government data
This linked website has an incentive to portray this "savings" as larger than it actually is.
fermentation··on The young, inexperienced engineers aiding DOGE
They may be brilliant engineers, but they’re adults who’ve decided to become enemies of the state.
fermentation··on Show HN: Time Flies
Fun visualization.

First thought that this would be https://timeflies.buzz/ a fun game I played at pax this year, though I'm a little worried I played the whole thing.

fermentation··on Japan cracks down on use of rideable electric suitcases amid tourist boom
The areas where these would be used are super crowded, it is likely that the riders are constantly bumping into people.
fermentation··on US EPA sets health advisory limits for PFAS from 70 ppt to .02 ppt (2022)
Was also sold one by my dentist. Turns out you still have to floss so it was just another thing I paid for at the dentist that I didn't really need. Cool.
fermentation··on U.S. rice exports to Haiti have unhealthy levels of arsenic, study finds
I can’t recall where but I read something about southern US rice (especially Texas) having high levels of arsenic. California rice was reported as safer
fermentation··on Meta's new LLM-based test generator
The incentives at meta around code production are all wrong. The team behind this is absolutely gearing this around lines of code and number of diffs produced. This'll just be another codegen tool creating another mountain of code that is difficult to debug.
